I followed the daily duties on the board. For example, fed fry, picked dead fish and recorded data. Observed their performance and inspected fish health. Checked water parameters and temperatures everyday to make sure the environment is safe to salmon fry. What I learned in the hatchery site was that it enhanced my professional knowledge and skills as well as improved my practical experience in the area of aquaculture. Co-workers are very nice and they are glad to answer your questions and helped you. The most enjoyable part of this job was working alone in the fry. Because, it improved my ability of time arrangement and work efficiency. I feel achievement when I done work alone. But, I also enjoy working with my co-workers which made my happy. In conclusion, I learned a lot from it, which it is also useful in my future and I never forget it.

Marine Harvest is primarily a Salmon Aquaculture business based in Campbell River, BC with locations on Vancouver Island to the Central Coast. A majority of the jobs are camp based using an 8 day in and 6 day out model. Some Hatchery and primary processing jobs are available. The industry as a whole is very volatile due to commodity like pricing of the product and limited control of the growing environment. Overall they are a good employer and offer excellent compensation, training and family programs.

A days worth of work is at least 10 hours. 
I've learn a lot of new things from this company (tying knots, learn the boats, etc.). 
They'll always have a assistant manager or manager on site, they know what they're doing when it comes to planning for the crews work day. 
Being cautious in rough weather conditions, you won't get hurt 100% of the time but when you do you'll be attended by a level 3 first aid.
Seeing the beautiful mountains, having fresh seafood, watching the sunset for a good 10-15 minutes, having good laughs with the co-workers, meeting new people.

I worked for marine harvest for about ten years .the hours were long 12-14 hours a day .the commute from Courtenay was longer for me as most of the harvests were based up in port hardy .I enjoyed working on native boats as they were always well maintained and friendly .my crew for the most part co-operated with me . I had a great boss  and I enjoyed labor intensive work and the multi-tasking .

A typical day was long and wearing but was beneficial. I grew a good relationship with all my co-workers and managers. The hardest part of the job was to keep yourself occupied while you were alone cleaning. One nice thing about working there was the salary.

Plenty of opportunity to grow within the company if you look.  They even gave me the room to innovate and implement some of my own ideas- how often does that happen?! 
My biggest issue was weathering the unfair and dishonest smear campaigns of politically-motivated organizations against fish farming as an industry.

Would not Reccomend this place. There one day and gone the next. Lots of favouritism. Better managers would make a better work environment someone who cares about others and not just themselves. This place is a big Joke!

Terrific co workers, the production people are salt of the earth and hardworking....I was easily accepted to the team

Very nice too work with was a pleasure, got to learn new things.  The crew I worked with are great and very helpful teaching me what had to be done  a true pleasure hope to work there again some time

It's alright if you're working but we shut down for a couple months at Christmas.  Bills don't stop.  They treat you well when you're working though.  They pay for your BC medical premium, which is nice.
