When I first began at Maritime Ontario, I started as a bill guy. In this position, they pair you with a forklift operator, you collect the bills he loads, and enter them into the system. In addition, if an operator is stripping a trailer, you would scan them and measure them. It was an great job, and the people I was paired with were very fun and made the day quite simple, however, standing on the concrete floor for longer periods of time can be taxing on your feet. After about a year, I was promoted to the Forklift Operator position, where they gave me my training and everything that I need to get started and work safe. I enjoyed the position a lot. I spent the day stripping trailers, measuring the skids, and placing them on their respective docks to be loaded. It was a lot of fun to just move the freight around, and the days went by so fast. I should also mention that you do get frequent breaks at Maritime Ontario. Since I worked afternoons, I would start at 4pm, they would let us have lunch at 6:15pm for 45 minutes, we would get another break from 15 minutes at 9:15pm, and on Friday's, when we would work a full 12 hour shift to provide a lighter workload for the morning shift on Saturday, we would get another 15 minute break at midnight. Overall, I enjoyed the years I spent working at Maritime Ontario, and greatly appreciate the opportunity I had to work there.

Working at Maritime Ontario has been a very good experience for me.I am handling a few key account companies and responding to bilingual customers inquiries via phone and email as needed. My manager is an understanding and cooperative person. I report to my manager and to all my key account clients by submitting my report on a daily basis.My report is based on all pick ups done daily by our company and I would follow up with other terminal all over Canada to ensure the deliveries are done on time as requested by our clients.The most enjoyable part of the job is when my clients are happy.They are happy when they get a good service and most of there problem are solved.To provide a good customer service and to solve our customers issue,I always been a good listener,very attentive,understanding,patient and cooperative.My co-workers were very helpful and very co-operative.We always work as a team.My hardest part of the job is, when the clients are upsets. It happens sometime in winter when the products did not arrive on time due to derailment or bad weather condition.We cannot go agains mother nature.

I was the warehouse supervisor, I was in charge of all hiring.We built a great team. I was fortunate enough work with a lot of good people.. I enjoyed training people..

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Every day had a different challenge, weather, truck breakdowns, staff shortages and late freight...Our goal is to deliver freight in a timely manner.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very stressful environment on most days but seeing the results at the end was worth the stress..

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My goal was to make sure my staff was happy and safe and our customers were serviced with the best professional  service daily..

In summary; this is the worst company to work for. The international students/people who work here are sneaky & cunning backstabbers - they will talk behind your back (I've caught it happening the first week when I joined). They were also not willing to teach me Truckmate* and other software properly. The hours are inconsistent - you will work anywhere from 9 to 16 hours - they don't care about following the schedule you were given when you joined - its a dictatorship at the end of the day. Management does not care about your feedback, suggestions, etc. They just brush you off and reply with "we'll see, we'll let you know, stay tuned, etc". Stay away from this workplace. 

Maritime Ontario was an ok place to work for. For the most part the people were good to work with, and the pay was decent. We were just too small of a company to be taken seriously. It was made clear when we built a 18 million dollar warehouse, 52000 sq feet of space. Our "old" place was 5000 sq feet and we were only full on Sundays when the train came in, the rest of the week we just shipped out the stuff. So how were we going to stay busy in a place 10X the size. Well found out, we couldnt and a lot of us were laid off.

I got a job with our competitor, and the first thing they did was laugh that i worked for MO, and second said they would have to retrain me.

I miss the pay and the guys i worked with though.

My time at Maritime as a dispatcher was one filled with unfair & rude management, office politics, no promotions/salary increases/performance reviews, etc. First off, they make you work an inconsistent schedule. You may work anywhere from 9 hours to 16 hours. Be prepared to lose your sanity if you choose to work here. The overall workplace culture is not good because they play favorites & there is a ton of office politics in-play everyday. Also, they do not give salary increases, promotions, performance reviews, etc. to those who deserve it. If you decide to work here, your future will suffer. Please avoid Maritime Ontario at all costs. 

I would strongly NOT recommend Maritime Ontario to anybody. Very unorganized company to work for. Use of profound language from managers in open settings making it hard to communicate with the customer via phone in a professional manner. Managers are rude and inconsiderate when it comes to the basic needs of employees and give very minimal training leaving employees left to “figure it out”. Maritime Ontario’s customer service team is unfortunately very understaffed leaving all the work load thrown onto the few employees they do have with minimal help from managers. Managers are extremely unprofessional for such a large company.

Atmosphere was really good and staff was also supportive. I’m available now for full time job . If you have any vacancy , I would really like to rejoin. Thank you for asking the feedback.

Nothing. You are over worked, under appreciated and constantly passed over for review or promotion

Everything. No one helps you, you are expected to do more and more with no pay increase or support

Horrible. Everyone is stressed out and angry with each other. No one wants to work as a team.

Very busy and stressed from the second you sit down until you leave.

Freebies on thrown goods or discarded rejected goods

Management. Politics within the office. Controlled environment

Stressful. I got personally harassed by a co worker and nothing was done even after several ways to report it
