If you decide to accept employment with Maritime Paper, be ready for these possible scenarios. Little to no communication between management and maintenance, production and maintenance, and production planning and maintenance. Because of this, you will find most planned jobs panicked and rushed, ultimately costing time at start up or reliability in the future. Also because of this, the schedule with change on a whim and frequently, that you will learn about through second (or 3rd or 4th) hand communication from fellow employees or possibly through a note stuck to the wall (not directly from a superior, or email, or phone call). With this constantly changing schedule you won't know if your coming of going in 3 or 4 months time, so keep this in the back of your mind if you have a family that you would like to plan outings or get-aways with for vacation or a weekend off. My last 0.02¢ would be, regardless of what they offer you in your interview, ask for a current copy of the collective agreement and take a read of it before accepting, as this is the bottom line when all the side deals fall through. On the up side, they pay well, you use there tools, shifts go quick as you are busy keeping the place going, and it's a easy going bunch of guys so long as you try your best. Best of luck!

Do yourself a favour when thinking of applying here, you will be looking for another job come second week of working here ! The culture is so bad here and will never change because of upper management coming from being operators on the floor , so they were brought up with the terrible culture.. if you think this place will be better then where your at think again! Day to day basis you can expect to show up, have a list of jobs to be done which there will be no parts laid out for that job , you will have to try and find everything in stock room which is a complete mess, if you manage to scrape up all the parts for the job , you go out to machine and most times floor supervisor isn’t even aware of work being done on the machine , so they end up just running or you are rushed to throw it together on operators lunch break or a setup .. these things being the way they are has made the plants machines not reliable and break downs are growing by the day! This place is reactive maintenance and communication doesn’t exist, there really is no communication from the top all the way down. They are losing maintenance guys left right and Center , and now it’s at the point where they lose guys to way less paying jobs just to get out of this culture! Do yourself a favour and don’t make the same mistake we all did.. 

MPP has the usual maintenance issues like lack of parts and the constant push for production. Where this company fails is with its management. No clear direction or message. Completely absent for weeks at a time then suddenly daily harassment over trivial things. OT was a big selling point for the job at first then was taken away completely, then given again the next day to a select few "priveleged" guys. 

Do not expect to be an electrician at MPP. Here you are also a millwright, a welder, fabricator, janitor, operator, etc. Even if you have no experience in these other trades the expection is that you do it anyway, which turns for the worst when you are alone at times on shift due to management completely failing to keep up with shift changes over and over again.

Basically if you are looking for work go for it but expect to hate the place from day one and to look elsewhere right away, most guys at MPP are...

If you have work already stay away from MPP, the grass is definitely not greener here.

Oh and don't buy anything they say about this place and the job at the interview.

Overall the place isn’t too bad because of management. Management was very easy to approach and always listened to your problems. 4 days on and 4 days off where nice, however, due to a shortage, they cut hours and I got stuck working only night shifts, and it was unbearable. I was working more then ever, right up until they laid most of the people off due to the shortage. Pay was great, but work was incredibly boring and after your first year, you moved up to the highest position as a machine operator and you’ll be there for life. Lunch breaks where decent, but sometimes they never felt long enough to accommodate for the amount of work you do during a shift. If you value money over your free time, don’t care to get an 8 hour sleep, and you don’t mind being someone else’s pet, this is the job for you! 

Good place to work if you are willing to work hard and don't mind doing physical tasks for a whole shift. Got to work on different machines and was rotated from jobs quite frequently as summer students are there to fill in vacation days for full-time employees. Supervisors were good as long as you stayed busy and once you got the hang of your tasks without babysitting. Co-workers were great and were willing to help. Depending on what machine and crew you work with, your experience might change. During the summer, many students left or were let go because of it being a hard job physically.

If you like hard work with a lack of tools, ability, resources, ect. to do a good job in addition to management that couldn't care less about anyone or anything but themselves and saving a buck then you're in the right place. Good pay here but at the cost of your mental and physical health. Be prepared to leave when you find out how this company operates and treats its employees. Schedules often chnage on a dime with little notice and corners are often cut. So throw standard knowledge of safety or workers rights out the window because no one cares. Have fun and welcome to Maritime Paper. 

For college/uni STUDENTS, this is a great summer job to cover tuition costs. Depending on what role, it can be physically demanding, with long hours being spent standing while in constant motion.  If you struggle to adapt to long, rotating hours, this may not be the job for you.  Workers are polite and willing to offer assistance.  As long as you have good comprehension/language skills and able to preform the designated tasks,  you will do fine.  

Fantastic place, great people, management works with their employees, room for advancement, benefits are great.  would love to move back and work there again some day.

Started off as a summer student working on the cascader. There have been more students who have left because of the expectation to know everything before hand.

I worked at maritime paper for a student summer position in the summer of 2014. It was very long hours here so it was hard at time. I worked 4 days on 4 days off, it was 2 nights and 2 days and I found it hard to get used to that. The overall work experience was pretty good.
