Diversity workforce, especially plants in GTA gave unique culture and positive outlook of company outlook. MRE GTA plants, e.g. Alfield demonstrates benchmark operation excellence, e.g. morale, ethics, quality, etc. for other MRE plants.

Grow or advancement within the company really depends on how you fit to top management culture. If you are considered in their type for a particular group, you will be assigned to different upper positions in different plants to get your characters/ability shaped for their successors. Else, individuals will mostly likely end up in middle/dept mgt at best.

Top management and executives across different groups (engineering, PM & operations) are overall capable and collaborative in new programs launch. VP/ directors in each group are working together and assigning resources to the programs/plants that need help. Top management team has been relative stable over past years, which keeps consistent strategic vision down the road. This is one of major advancement from MRE2.0 over the years.

Company operates in a very decentralized base. Process and policy of MRE plants sometimes are quite different from each other. Corporate culture, policy and standard process are not well implemented to plants, mainly due to constant workforce change.

Middle management capability (both technical and management skills) needs to be developed. There has been considerable turnover from front line operators to middle management over the time. Similar like other Tier-I suppliers, some plants struggle to keep constant workforce or talent pool. 

A typical day at work would be punching a time clock, checking emails for work projects and expectations for the shift. I assist the Supervisor in preparing all shift schedules and work stations for the shift. I give orientation for any new workers. I open the batches for scanning. Then I do my rounds to make sure everyone has the necessary supplies and that production in each station is operating safely to company health and safety standards. I continuously do rounds throughout the day to ensure that each employee has their necessary breaks and that their production is up the requirements. At the end of the shift I restock for the next shift, I log off, I send end of shift report to Quality Assurance and Plant Manager and the Supervisor for the next shift. I punch out and head home to my kids.

At Martinrea, I have learned management and communication skills. I have learned the value of being fair, firm and to never show favoritism. I have also reconfirmed that honesty is the best policy.

I have enjoyed working with the management at Martinrea. We have  a mutual respect and understanding as team players. 

My co-workers are very professional, supportive and cooperative and we welcome open communication with each other.

The hardest part of the job is working the afternoon shift and not being home with my children for the evenings. 

The most enjoyable part of my job is working together as a team and meeting and surpassing company expectations.

The only reason I would leave Martinrea is to get a long term night shift enabling me to be home in the mornings and evenings with my children.

I worked for this place for almost a year as a Custodian on the afternoon shift.  The only reason I took this position is because it was a straight 3 - 11 p.m. shift which worked well for me.  HR was understanding towards my needs outside of work.  The job itself was pretty straight forward.  The people on the floor where a bit of a challenge when you are trying to clean a washroom.  Worse than kids.  Day's and afternoon shift for custodian where understaffed.  They could have used 2 people per shift and not 1.  For some reason they had 2 on mid-nights.  At times, upper management would put a un-realistic work load on for 1 person.  Concerns where swept under the rug.  Basically at times you where treated as a "dumb cleaner" that does not know any better.  Beware of the Tool-crib Attendants, both on days and afternoons.  Always giving you a hard time when needing to go there for supplies.
The people in general where worse than a baby in regards on how they treat their work place.  I would hate to see how they live at home.  The reason I left is because I found something else close to home and better pay and better industry and can actually use my skills.   

Checking daily job sheet is typically the same with no or little rotation. This has lead employees to injurys. Personally I feel that I have gained alot of experience of welding skills, to perform daily quality inspection and customer/supplier relations, lift truck skills and the ability to operate different machines such as presses and robotic weld cells. Co-workers are just as eager to work efficiently and get along to make a good work enviroment. Unfortunately our management like to keep separate from floor staff and not share much information or consider many ideas from employees that perform dailt duties. I enjoy learning something new from time to time such as taking on a new job posting or working with other employees from a different shift, mostly during overtime or a shift rotation change. Someone new to talk to makes for a different workplace.

- Vending machines for drinks, snacks and meals
Cons:
- Over worked harshly (Production, Maintenance, Safety, Quality, Lean, etc.)
- Company does not want to pay the wage required for job duties
- Lack of communication
- Supervisors/Tech Leads mistreated in fairness
- Tech Leads are Supervisors for convenience purposes. Your job title does not matter
- Changes are made to job descriptions without including the employee
- Issues that arise never gets dealt with (ex: reason for employees quitting)
- Job security for automobile 
- Insurance company is horrible
- Area leaders can never be found
- Promises are made but, never followed through

This place has really gone down the hole. A promising start to a new program but corporates stranglehold of the program has really hindered the progress of the line. 
Robot techs are told to be in charge of operators which then puts more stress onto the techs where they are not focused on fixing the robots/machines and any new tech is hired with any type of experience just walk away as they don’t want the responsibility. 
Techs don’t get any proper training to handle robotics and applications. 
Training is horrible, the experienced operators are so far outnumbered by temps and new hires that even a new employee won’t be able to get the help they need. 
The scheduling is ridiculous, one week you may only work 4 days and the next you work 6 days. 
People just don’t want to work when you are there, operators don’t care about hitting cycle, so many people call in or not even show up for work. 
So much time is wasted from an engineering standpoint because they don’t listen to the people from the floor or they just overrule the idea and dictate what’s going to happen.  



A typical day at work includes a variety of fast paced and precision work to assemble the chassis of the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. It is challenging work to say the least and it requires dedication to become proficient which I have done. I have noticed during my time at Martinrea that there exists a somewhat strained relationship between management and the general workforce of which I am a part of, in part, I suppose because we are a unionized company. This does not mean, however, that the company is poorly managed as Martinrea has continued to turn over large profits each quarter. My co-workers are a fun group of people and we all generally get along very well. The hardest part of the job is the repetitive tasks and the six day work weeks. The most enjoyable part is the feeling of being a part of a team to accomplish a common goal and the bonds that are created as a result.

start the day with hearing from co-workers the issues that occurred from the other shifts. I have learned a lot about assemblies and how a chassis of a car works and is assembled. management can be pretty cold for the most part. the hardest part of my job would be the stress that comes when you work a shift you don't like there is a very long process for you to get it changed. There is no future of advancement in this company. There is employee appreciation events maybe 2 to 3 times a year. one's a BBQ, a picnic then a Christmas lunch in. only down fall about all that is the only one that's not on your working shift is the Picnic. The most enjoyable part of my job is the people I work with everyone is generally nice and willing to help any one struggling

Working at Martinrea like all factory’s have it’s pros and cons. 

I like working at Martinrea because, the jobs are fast paced witch makes the 8hrs fly by but not so much when your in the press shop the only down time you get is when the press faults out, cool change of here and their bun changes.

I like working at Martinrea because unlike most factories, they pay a fair wage for their full time employees and the temps even make a decent wage. But with the rise of cost going over the % of your pay raise it’s hard to say how
Long that will continue.

Management has their days of being relaxed but the supervisors do need to chill out when it comes to production and let the operators go at their best pace.

All in all martinrea would be the place
I would work because somewhere out their is more horrific then where I work but everyone’s got their opinions.

•	Building front ends, rear ends, breaks, and struts of Camero V6’s and V8’s, Buick GL’s, GK’s, GK2, GK3, and GS.  The Cadillac line will begin soon.
•	Learned almost all operations in three weeks including: the Vertical line (Breaks and struts), the Horizontal line (front end assembly), and the Rear line (rear end).
•	Perform all operations between 20 sec to 40 sec, at least forty hours a week. 
•	Often worked two stations at one time.  Learned and qualified  an average of two stations a day.
•	Using a variety of tools (Hydraulic lift assists, automated torque wrenches, scanning guns, touch screen interfaces,)
•	Operations included placing the frame on a jig buy lift assist, properly bolting the frame, nutting the bolts, torquing the nuts.  Placing and fastening struts.  Placing stickers, scanning stickers.  Placing and fastening any and all sensors.  Unpacking and properly repacking shipping containers.  Assisting co-workers to speed production.
