Master Mechanic

Based on my experience, this is the worst shop I've ever worked at. Mechanics are treated like they're disposable, with little respect or appreciation for the work they do.

The service advisor's management style was extremely micromanaging. I constantly watched the service manager watching employees through the shop's security cameras rather than being trusted to do their jobs. The atmosphere felt stressful and controlling instead of professional and supportive.

To make matters worse, employees were called into service that felt more like criticism than constructive coaching. Rather than building a positive team environment, it created low morale and made coming to work something to dread.

I would not recommend this workplace to any technician looking for a respectful, supportive environment. There are far better shops where mechanics are treated with the professionalism they deserve.

A satisfying place to work if you're not looking to advance, you're not looking to earn what you're worth, and you don't care for benefits.  Appears to be a revolving door when it comes to employees however - and to no fault of their own.  Mechanics all get along and worked well with the previous shop manager, however, the owner of the shop doesn't really do much to help the business grow and never really seems to know what's going on when it comes to customers.  The previous shop manager resigned which had a noticeable impact on the shop's success and given the rapid growth and improvement of the City of Vaughan's future downtown core - it's unlikely that the shop's location will be around too long.

The people that are in charge and that work here are friendly and kind enough, and the culture is that of a small business - warm and team oriented. But the job is not how they present it. There is no guaranteed bonus for advisors or techs - must hit 80% shop efficiency every month, no guaranteed compensation beyond that - so be prepared to work for the base salary potentially for months at a time. Be prepared to perform tasks like cleaning washrooms, shuttle driving customers, or buying toilet paper for the shop. Be expected to stay after closing without the promise of overtime pay.

The treatment you will receive at this work place will leave you feeling miserable and the promises made by the owner are never kept. he is constantly having mood swings
the expectations in this garage are truly unreal you are expected to perform every job in a full on rush with no care for the final result .
i was forced several times to cut corners and perform sub par repairs on honest hard working customers vehicle .the customer retention in this garage is in a downward spiral and it is losing the reputation that the previous owner built I can go on for several paragraphs about the problems in this shop but I truly don't think its worth the time and the shop definitely isn't worth any of yours

A typical day at work is a car comes into the shop i would install brakes , calipers and pads, and would have it checked by a licensed technician. My co-workers were friendly and would help out if i ever got stuck doing a task. The hardest part of the job is when all my co workers are busy and i must finish my task, Even when I'm stuck i learn to think out side the box and try to attempt at completing my job. The most enjoyable part of the job is when you finish your task on time. I get a feeling of confidence when i complete my tasks on time that's my most enjoyable part.

They provided a lot of training when I was first hired and continue to support me.  It’s a fast paced shop but you are always learning something so the day feels like it flies by. The company is really organized and even if it is busy, they make sure we always get our breaks. They make sure we have all the PPE we need and make sure the common areas are cleaned frequently to help in these times with COVID.  They were very helpful with getting all my College of Trades paper work done which was really kind.  I already referred a friend for a position in the shop and I wouldn’t hesitate to refer anyone if an opening came up.  

What is the best part of working at the company?
The employees. Until they all quit due to poor management priorities.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The management. Owner has mood swings. Will treat you like gold the first few months and then all of a sudden you are anxious when you hear his truck pull up. Never know if he will be in a good or bad mood.

Nice, when the owner isn't there.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical automotive day. Work orders in and out.

I have only been at Master Mechanic High Park for a short time but I am already very impressed with this shop.  The owners have very clear and organized work processes and expectations which made for a smooth transition into the workshop.  Despite only being here a short time, they surprised me with a special birthday lunch including a birthday celebration ribbon, doughnuts, a birthday cake pop and even making sure to get my favourite pizza!  My coworkers have been very welcoming and helpful.  I look forward to the year ahead and working with this team. 

A typical day at work is coming to work on time and ready on time. Greating friends and management. Prepare for what is at task and find out what is at task. Do the task on time, right, and safely. I have learned that working with others helps me built other character traits that I do not have. I have not had management experience before. The hardest part of the job is to maintain focus and not get distracted. The most enjoyable part about working is that after you put in the amount of hours, and have done the job well makes is sweet when the pay check comes in.

Master Mechanic High Park is the best shop I have ever worked for. Their shop is organized with systems and protocols, and the best equipment. They have on hands training with the best mechanic I’ve ever worked with. They are very community oriented and are very loved by their customers. When I looked at the website before the interview I was shocked how high their google rating was. They all about transparency, morals and I look forward to going to work everyday! The province all the PPE and are always making sure we feel safe.
