Matalan

Started off as Christmas temp but due to me working long extra hours at short notice and proving my self I was kept on, the job it's self is ok it's easy and the shift does go very quickly when it's busy, there are some good points to working here but also some bad points too be prepared to be constantly moaned at if you get bypasses (which is when a customer refuses to let you force a matalan card on them) in this day of age should a big company like this really be pushing cards on people who don't want them or should it the the customers choice??? Now I'm not saying all the managers are this way as some of mine were great they couldn't do enough but on the one occasion I rang in sick I was accused of lying and had the phone slammed down on me! And if you're over the age of 21 don't expect to be given any extra hours or over Time as this goes to the under 21's as they can pay them less, this company cares more about profits than it does it's employee's there's no loyalty what so ever.

A typical day at work would vary for me I would either be on the tills or on the shop floor.

I learned a lot at matalan i learned how to use the tills and giving refunds and exchanges, I also learned how to do the basics of tidying shop floor.

Management was ok , could be a little firm at time and sometimes insensitive.

My co-workers were brilliant they were always there to help you out if needed and generally all round lovely to work with. 

The hardest part of my job would of been tidying the shop floor as you only have a certain amount of time to complete your job.

The most enjoyable part of my job was working on the tills serving and helping the customers and just general communication with others.

I wouldn’t even bother applying it was the worst year of my life working here. Management are just bullies and make it very difficult to want to come to work. The pay isn’t worth it at all. I had holidays that they said I had used when I didn’t so I could never have any time off unless I called in sick, simply because they didn’t like me. They don’t care about their staff one bit, but ones they do care about they favour massively and don’t try to be subtle about it. 
You’d be better off anywhere else, just do not bother applying here.

Highly regret working for Matalan, awful pay and awful treatment of staff. Management are unprofessional and extremely, extremely rude to staff. Not worth it, do not work here; not a good environment at all. No exaggeration, it is the worst job I have ever had. Do not work here especially if you are under 18. Treatment is even worse for those under 18, lots of age discrimination between colleagues and management expect far too much from you.

So from the start, the pay is poor. The shifts being 4 hours for £4 an hour makes it feel not worth coming in. Pair that with the fact that favouritism is a huge problem and you'll find yourself working every single Friday Saturday Sunday while others are out partying every weekend because they dont have to work, and the rude, nasty top manager and it makes for a bad place to work.

Working within a team to keep product levels up, as well as serving customers. It was nice to work with different people each day, and get to  converse with the customers. Stock rotation, till servicing, refunding, data input and clean up would be part of my daily duties.

Good place to work, friendly staff willing to help other staff members, hours to suit you available, if you have a family or collage/uni. Xmas night out, lockers provided, kitchen area with kettle microve fridge and toaster, vending machine available too for if you have break times or before or after shift.

I enjoyed my time working for Matalan. My co-workers were awesome and some managers were superstars. I was a student at the time and never felt worn-out after work. 
I highly recommend this company. 

A typical day at work would be unloading deliveries, general stockroom tidying, ensuring that products are in the correct locations and assisting the sales staff with stock queries

Good colleague atmosphere however some of the management team were questionable in their approach. Customer service and cash handling skills were the main focus of the role and were able to excel me into further job roles.
