I am in high school and most if not all the workers are my age or a few years older which is nice. Hours are nice too not too long and very flexible. Also when i interviewed, i did not pass the first test which qualifies you to teach high school and elementary but they liked me so they had me come back to do just an elementary test. When i met the owner for the first time, i made eye contact, shook her hand, and had a smile on my face. That's really all it took for them to like me and just try to have some humor when talking like make them laugh and they'll like you. The people working are super nice i love everyone there, no one that i would avoid and the kids are super fun too they make the job fun.the only thing is that during my spring break i couldn't get a lot of hours because it's super slow at that time and we are also only open 4 hours of the day. Also they are closed on sundays and reserve saturdays for more experienced workers which limits hours even more which could be a good or bad thing depending on your situation but overall i really like it

Mathnasium has a unique formula for diagnosing math strengths and weaknesses, and then specifically focusing on the relevant skills for students. This formula is really effective for helping students, and it really makes your job as an Instructor much easier. Much of your work as an Instructor is being done for you through the unique worksheets and activities, so your job is very rewarding and mostly stress-free. I worked in a centre that was quite small, so there was plenty of opportunity for more personal connections with the students, other staff and the Centre Director.  I really enjoyed how I got to know everyone by name and I made some really meaningful connections with both students and staff.
The only thing I would say about Mathnasium is that the hours are rather limited. Each shift is only 4 hours and the centre is only open after school hours, so there are not many opportunities to get lots of hours. This is an ideal job if you are doing something else (eg full-time student or you have another job).

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Trying to get some kids to focus when they are not interested in math.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Laid back, collaborative, supportive.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive early to prepare the computers, walk around asking the kids if they need help, correcting papers, identify when kids may need help and they do not want to ask, explain concepts in a way that meets each child's needs.

They called me back for an interview and hired me. Said they would call me for my first shift in two weeks. Exactly those words. They never did so I called in and they claimed they never hired me and apologize for the miscommunication. There was none... they said I was hired so I stopped applying for jobs. Not to mention there was absolutely no calculus on the instructor test, only a ton of stats. It was like they want you to only tutor stats which was never posted in the listing... it was never posted in the listing that you need to know stats in general. Even goes as far to say grade 12 skills are not mandatory. Don't waste your time.

The team I worked with is very friendly and helpful. Everyone looked out for each other and assisted one another when needed. Some students can be difficult to work with at times when you are just starting, but the more experienced staff will quickly help you adapt to their learning style. I only left the job because of an internship opportunity in a different city. 

As much as mathematics is a nightmare for many high school students, I tried to make it interesting and easy for them to learn. 
My approach was different to every student depending on your knowledge and interest. 
However, the most important task during teaching is get students attention. Having a clear understanding of all the mathematical concepts was the key for gaining student confidence and attention.

The math is usually arithmetic and although there are some high school students, I found it to be mainly elementary and middle school. It usually pays minimum wage and so it's only if you want a bit of spending money. I don't see how one could build a career here, but it is nice to get on the resume and have some references if you're starting out.

Because it's a franchise, as a teacher, you have to do it the Mathnasium way and so if you find that doesn't work for you and/or need more flexibility then find another place. 

You will work very close with kids and teenagers, as most of the time you will work with more than one student but less than five. You will have times where management is easy and time where your time management will keep a key-role in keeping everything organized and still helping the students.
The environment is very welcome and you can count on others to help you. Also, your feedback is very important for managers to help both the tutors and give parents better feedback about their children.

Mathnasium offers good employment to college students looking for part time work. The job was demanding at first as you must recollect most of your highschool and elementary level math quickly. As time passes the job becomes much easier with less challenges as the days go by. The hours are short but fit well into a college students schedule. Management was good, workplace was comforting and engaging with the students is entertaining.

Working with many grades, teaches you to acquire various teaching skills and hones your communication and methodology. 
You get to experience working with a larger population of students with special needs and gifted kids. 
Material is ready no need for lesson planning.

Team-teaching causes some instructors to slack off and places a burden on the better more dedicated ones.
