In the almost 3 years i have worked for Maurices i advanced alot in my role. Starting out as a PT assistant and working my way up to a Store Leader. The culture was fantastic. When i first started here the company really took care of their employees to help them reach their full potential. The demand to make the numbers was high but not unreasonable. However when i took on the Store Leader position it started out great but went downhill fast. The company sees you not making every single one of your quotas( we will delve into that later) a failure. You get told you are failing regularly which does nothing for your self esteem and if you have any pride in your work ethic it will be destroyed. Maurices is all about the target customer(LIV) and creating a boutique experience for her which is amazing dont get me wrong. However the demand on the employees is exhausting and mentally draining. The store was expected to make specific average dollar sale, units per transaction, and conversion rates on top of sales plan. And if you missed just one you would hear about it. Lets not even get into the fact of driving loyalty cards, surveys, showing her how to shop the online website(which they dont even have a canadian one yet) ordering and shipping things to her from other stores, the standard operating procedures you have to follow to the letter,SELebrationss, the SEL roll, headset communication(you will get in trouble for not using these enough trust me) the amount of paperwork and planning for store meetings, monthly visual changes, scheduling, one on ones with your employees, reviews and plenty of other paperwork you are expected to complete in a 2-3 hour office day. Networking and recruiting, as well as training your employees, coaching them as needed, ensuring your employees and yourself are greeting, following up, building outfits, setting up and adding to fitting rooms to drive her to buy outfits, talking up your loyalty program, as well as talking up the survey to her before she leaves. This job is not only physically but mentally draining and it got to the point where the job caused me to go home and cry after work because i was threatened to be fired over things i couldnt control as well as being told i wasnt good enough on a daily basis. I was a committed employee up until i quit . i worked there almost three years and put my all into it because i cared about my job but the toll it took on my mental health wasnt worth it. NEVER AGAIN!!

The management is a tired example of catty, unfulfilled women with nothing better to do in their lives but to torture those under them with what they deem is enough power in their grasp to do so. They will bully to the extreme to get their way, and then turn around and play nice while they talk behind your back and make up stories. The manager seems to think it is within her right to raise her voice at her young employees, and when faced with criticism will lash out.
They do not tolerate the need for time off/accommodations and do not even THINK of going back to school! You will be seen as "not a team player" or "not wanting to be there", and your hours will be forfeited to someone else as punishment. They don't want you to better yourself in any way; your soul belongs to them and the company, as if they were some sort of minions of S a  ta n and you've signed the Devil's contract.
What WAS enjoyable were the dear customers. Their stories would brighten my day and make me feel full and enlightened. I stayed as long as I could just for them. They made me feel important and I hope to god that I made them feel that as well.

You're going to need to be *on* all the time, they try to convince you that the company cares but in reality if they did, they would offer commission for all of the sales work you do. As assistant manager you're required to check 4 different sources for information at the start of your shift and read it extensively. And if you don't get that done within 20 min that's unacceptable. But you're "not allowed to skim". You need to know the in and out of EVERY product sold. Sales is the number one priority but there's no excuse to not get things done. Don't even get me started on if this is your only part time job, as a college student I would buy their jeans and clothes i didn't hate on clearance and the amount of SUPER judgy looks i got from each of my coworkers was appalling. Don't work here unless you've got daddy's money paying your bills or you can go full time and be the store manager. 

I worked at Maurices as part of the management team. Things were great until corporate showed their true colors. You are just a number with this company. They will tell you otherwise and state there is great work life balance, great pay, great work environment but it's all lies. 
There's no such thing as work life balance,  constantly getting bothered on days off, the pay is not as good as other company's for the same role. The gossip that goes on is ridiculous. Corporate will tell you that you're not allowed to talk to your coworkers outside of work and will reprimand you if you do,  they try to control your entire life. Micromanage is what they do when it's not justified. Working alone happens more than they lead on. Try to get ahead? Good luck with that because unless you kiss butt to upper management you won't get ahead. 
Only good thing about this company is the staff discount. They state to follow policies yet they don't follow through with any of them. Don't be surprised if you walk in and see young girls on their phones

-A typical day at work looks like walking into the store and having everyone greet you with a smile, you put your headset on, speak with customers, fix displays, clean the store, set up displays, move product, sort product, unpack product, normal retail duties
-I learned the importance of teamwork and leadership
-Management was okay for the most part, gossip was a big reason for leaving
-The workplace culture was great for the most part, most people were friends and enjoyed working together, music was always playing and it was a genuinely fun place to work. When some of the girls got together they were just plain mean to each other however
-The hardest part of the job was scheduling errors when my school schedule was overlooked by management
-The most enjoyable part of the job was spending time with customers and picking out different clothing items and full outfits for special occasions, vacations, promotions, events, etc. and finding them something that truly made them feel good in their own skin and confident in who they are as a person.

I was hired with the promise of a raise after a probationary period, flexible shifts while in school, and offered a promotion to part time management. However, I received hardly any training except for 3 hours in the back room with the head manager talking about herself. Thrown on the floor, I then got in trouble for asking questions pertaining to my job responsibilities. My hours nowhere near matched what I was promised upon hiring. The managers were told to pick 3 flaws a day in their part-time associates and report back to the main manager, with no intervention or communication with said associate at the time of the issue. The girls are passive-aggressive in communicating any problems within the store, leaving sticky notes around the back room. Finally, the 20 hours a week promised at hiring was cut down to 9 days off in a row, but 24 hours within 3 days on the specific day I asked for off 3 weeks in advance. Overall, this company is a JOKE. 0/10 would recommend working here.

I understand and im open to constructive criticism, but they almost never acknowledge you for the good things you do. You are forced to talk to customers and give them recommendations even though it's obvious that they don't want to be talked to. It's expected that every customer who enters the store MUST buy something in the end, and if they don't then management will for sure talk to you about how you can make them buy things. Employees are also expected to wear the brand, and if you don't have some pieces from their store you are pretty much forced to buy it even though some people are just trying to get by with paying their bills, etc. I pretty much force myself to go through every single shift and contemplate coming back every single time. To add on top of that, store is heavily understaffed and shifts are constantly being added without prior notice, and if you do talk to them about it they make you feel like your commitment to the company is low. 

I enjoyed my job at Maurice’s, however I didn’t like their sales tactics. Pressuring people to buy things they don’t want, putting outfits into their change room to try on “because you think it would look great on them”, making sure to encourage selling a necklace and shoes or purse to go along with their new shirt etc., was a little much. The stores are actually equipped with a counter on the doors to see how many people enter and expect you to sell a minimum of 3 items to each person that enters and they keep track of this. The regional managers are bullies and will criticize your hair, makeup, outfit etc when they come in. They’ve had so many complaints I’m not sure how they’re still employed. 

All that said, I loved up the 40% discount! Especially when used in combination with another sale! Worked a few months and bought a whole wardrobe! Totally worth it! Met lots of girls who I’ve become good friends with and they were very flexible with the hours!

This retail store was so boring and mind numbing. They will be constantly made to chase customers around and wait on them hand and foot and if you are not you will be talked down to. Their motto is the customer is always right… so take that as a hit to go find something else. Coworkers (some) were fabulous but non of them lasted more than a few months because this job is basically 4 hours of you folding stuff and chasing customers and at the end making sure every customer has a loyalty card and if they say no you must change their mind. Most shifts I spent my time helping every rude people and being told just to “tough” it out and the other half was thinking about walking out on my 15 minute break that you get. 

It is an incredible company to work for. The resources they provide and training they give shows how much they not only want us to succeed but to offer the best service for our customers. We have so many people outside of our store staff to support us. Each store helps one another amazingly. The district leader is an exceptional person and truly cares deeply. 
The pay is not realistic for living nowadays. I’m full time management and am having to work on the side to afford bills. They do offer a nice discount for associates, but for how the dress code is I find it hard to keep on track with being able to afford the clothes consistently. I have a different style from what I wear at work/ they sell. I find myself buying two different wardrobes, which gets expensive.
