Typical day at work would include receiving calls from nurses, doctors, public trustees and public guardians while processing prescriptions, updating customer profiles, and completing daily pharmaceutical tasks. I have held several roles within Medisystem and have progressed from data assistant to data entry technician to lead of a department. I have learned a great deal about long term care pharmacy and how it differs from retail pharmacy. Medisystem Pharmacy is undergoing a lot of changes and is currently trying to improve its job culture/working environment. Management still needs to be improved as many employees such as data assistants and data entry technicians are not provided the same luxuries as the pharmacists such as weekly huddles with management to improve working conditions based on their experience and work loads. Efforts have been made to make a happier and enjoyable work environment but the stress of completing 60+ orders a day with 95% success rate, receive phone calls, plus no guarantee of when your shift is over causes many operations employees to feel under appreciated and disgruntled. The hardest part at Medisystem is working as a Data Entry Technician as each technician is responsible for 500-600 beds, is expected to process all prescriptions from the nursing home/retirement home. There is constant pressure to enter more prescriptions and take on more homes while ensuring 95% success rate. Because of the work load, stress and 6 day work weeks many staff members take lieu days or become over tired or sick. There is usually atleast one person away which causes more work to be given to already over worked employees. The most enjoyable part of the job would be working with fellow co-wokers in operations and front reception. Even though Medisystem has a tough work environment it is easy to make friends as many of us has helped one another through a tough situation. All DA, DET, Customer Service Representative and Pharmacist at Medisystem are hard working and caring individuals.

Expect to be overworked, under-appreciated and under paid with this company. They will never appreciate the thousands of orders you do well everyday but will nit-pick any little errors you may make. Management has a "different strokes for different folks" policy and it is blatantly obvious in how various employees are treated. Rules such as no eating on the production floor should be respected by ALL workers and managers should not be allowed to shirk this rule while strictly enforcing it on others. Because of the stressful atmosphere and unrealistic demands placed on employees they tend to be short with each other. The company expects each tech to handle orders for over 500 clients.....I would love to see what study they based that expectation on other than their own greed for profit. They talk about having a co-operative attitude and working together but when you try to help your colleagues who are being over-whelmed management pulls you in their office and reprimands you for not doing your job even if you have already finished your tasks for the day. Do not plan on working for this company if you value your mental health and social life. They won't even let you take your vacation when it's due ! The manager always haggles with you to not take the time off but at the end of the year wants you to take all your vacation so it won't carry over to the next year. This place is such a joke.

Hideous workplace with pretentious upper management who operate this pharmacy like a sub-par business rather than as a community pharmacy set out to help improve the quality of life for those that depend on our services. The compensation for work is very little compared with other similar pharmacies and even community pharmacies. If given the chance then I would encourage you to consider working within community pharmacy rather than here. Departments like data technician, e-mar, auto-med, and customer service are all segmented from each other so there is a lack of communication within the company which can be detrimental to providing patient care. Nurses constantly attack e-mar and pharmacists since they are not communicated with in a manner that informs them about our services in a clear and concise way which inhibits efficiency and is very stressful when trying to fulfill regular duties. The stressful work rolls-over into other areas of work which is evident from walking around the lunchroom and hearing constant complaint form employees and having to work with others who are bitter or resentful day after day. Upper management is well aware of all the short-comings and suggestions for improvement but lack the level of competence necessary to cultivate a successful pharmacy

I was skeptical to work at Medisystems due to the reviews I read online, however after having worked there for quite some time my experience was quite different than I expected it to be. I really enjoyed and valued my time at Medisystem. I came away with skills that will be very useful for future endeavours, and allow me to excel in the field. The staff were really friendly, and welcomed me from the very first day. They answered all the questions I had, and were always willing to help me out whenever I needed it. The company is very diverse in both ethnic background, as well as age, and I found this to be a great attribute as everyone worked well together. Although some reviews criticize management, I found them to be very caring, and were always looking out for your best interests, especially if you have goals of moving up within the company. Overall, I had a great experience at Medisystem. I was hesitant to work here because of the reviews I read online, however there has been a huge culture shift over the past few years, and it has definitely been for the better. I would definitely recommend working here.

Medisystem Toronto has got to be one of the worst places to work in the pharmacy field. Operations staff are undermined and are generally not respected. This is ironic because without the staff in operations, the entire company would collapse. The training process takes months so staff are generally not easily replaced but management doesn't realize this. Everyone is underpaid and worked like dogs. Data entry staff are probably treated the worst and have to work under incredibly stressful conditions. Managers 'force' staff to stay past their end shift time because of constant understaffing. We are constantly understaffed because people realize what an awful place this is and resign. Management needs to focus more resources on improving work conditions and stop lying to clients about how great this company is, because it isn't. Start by firing the operations managers. Stay away from Medisystem, you do not want to work here.

Be warned if you have extensive experience - most of the workload will fall on your shoulders. There's no support from prior management, no accommodations to ease and fairly distribute workflow between workers.  Training was non-existent on pharmacy operations and you will be cast into the fire if you something wrong.

Lack of communication and self-preservation sums up the work culture. The company seemed to care more about site goals rather than experienced workers who cared about the patients in the actual job. If you asked for help, be prepared to be met with disrespect and gain a target on your back for having to take on extra workloads when teamwork falters.

If you absolutely need a job, then anything is better than nothing, but those in management positions would benefit the team more if they learned to approach situations with more kindness during peak hours and holidays. It doesn't matter if someone's having a bad day, set an example and give people a chance to show their skills and dedication.

Work here as a pharmacist.  “Encouraged” to use my expanded scope to extend prescriptions because pharmacy assistants can’t contact the doctors in time.  Most people work more than 9-10 hours a day.  Why doesn’t the company hire more people?   Whatever. No big deal.  Work life balance is highlighted as something new team members can look forward to.  It’s even in the job description.  Does working 50+ hour weeks sound like work life balance?  Team members also rotate shifts on stat holidays including Christmas.  Whatever.  This is common in pharmacy. No big deal.  Medication incidents happen frequently.  There are always new and repeat mistakes shared every week.  At least they’re discussed. But you start to wonder why some mistakes are repeated week after week.  Wouldn’t someone tune in and adjust the process?  Whatever. I guess this is common in pharmacy? ... wait.

Been working in Pharmacy for 22 years and this is the most toxic job I’ve ever had. If you like factory work with no challenge than this is the place for you. Management and longtime employees made work super uncomfortable in many different ways. Opportunities to move forward, if you received them, from head office, were punishable by local staff, if they didn’t not get them. The absolute worst work environment I’ve ever been in. New employees not welcome at all. In a staff meeting one long time employee called me out and said “no one even wants you here… that should have been a internal job posting not external”… manager did not intervene. Save your mental health and do not work at Medisystems. The only place in 22 years that I can say was the worst 9 months of my life.  

Working here you will learn lots, Because they will cross train you in almost every department. Which is great for learning things, however every day that you come into work is a mystery because they just throw you around wherever.  Everyone is frustrated in their own departments for different reasons, but mostly due to management and corporate games. This makes a lot of the people here seem unfriendly or rude, but really everyone is SO burnt out. Pay raises are a joke even after working there for a very long time, being an absolute workhorse, and hitting every single goal and milestone asked of you. Worth working here if you need to get some learning in, not worth staying if you like your mental health.

Poorly managed company with very high turnover on many levels.  Management that doesn't care about work conditions, no appreciation, just expecting more and more.  Obtained a special certification and the manager neither acknowledged nor congratuled.  Very nice coworkers unfortunately working for a toxic work place. Top of the cake was when our president rode on the back of a pharmaceutical rep giving out samples, and pretended those are Valentine's day gifts from Medisystem pharmacy.  Wow, how generous. I wonder how many people were fooled.
