Medicine Hat Lodge

I worked here for 1 year, got fired right before I would have been eligible for benefits. They like to keep a high turnover rate at front desk, and manager only hires/keeps her best friends. The entire front desk staff is like a gossip and drama factory. They do not care about workplace etiquette, managers and supervisors will disclose their personal and sexual life to and within earshot of unwilling listeners. Upper and fellow management turn a blind eye to the poor management at the front desk, which is disappointing because it could really be great under different leadership. Most of the "lowly" staff like front desk agents and hosts/hostesses get along but there is way too much drama than necessary in each department. If you're looking for a place to grow and advance this is not the place. Unless you are a Barbie doll that wants to be best friends with management and talk about Sephora and their personal lives, you will get nowhere here and will be targeted if you can stick it out and not quit within the first week.

Everyone is miserable, overworked and suffer from heat exhaustion. The pool makes it so it's humid. Floors 3-4 are unbreable to be on. The AC doesn't work on floors 3-4. They choose favorites all the time, will constantly call off shifts if a supervisor doesn't like you (even if you work hard and do a good job). The few favourites they have often brag about their special treatment to the point where they claim that none can fire them and they get the most hours out of everyone including the supervisors.
Every few months they will hire a bunch of new people and give them all the hours causing the original staff to quit from lack of hours.
MSDS sheets are not easily accessible and non of the bottles with cleaning supplies have safety sheets on them so you don't know what to do if you get it in your eyes. Employees are discouraged from seeking the MSDS sheets and are told to "just wash it off if it gets on your skin".  Also no knowledge of where they eye wash station is or if there even is one.
Broken equipment is rarely replaced or fixed. Alot of the time you are using broken carts, vaccumes, buggies 

Shipping and receiving is easy enough work. Delivered pallets are easy to put away. Expect to lift lots of heavy things almost daily. The work day will take longer than expected due to the hotel staff having to share elevators with hotel guests. In your downtime you might have to help out at either the restaurant, the bar, or banquets.  

The restaurant and the bar get very busy at least once a month. When you help out on those days it often goes by fast. The staff at each department are very kind and helpful. 

For banquets you will either work overtime or there will be almost nothing to do. It all depends on what event is being hosted. The staff there is kind as well but they don't have anyway to advance into a better position.

Employee elevator is down 
You will not get holidays off unless you request them off very early 
Paid minimum wage 
The employee only areas are not kept in the greatest shape
Little to no opportunity to advance your position to something better

Company is too interested in making money then thier employees. no recognition and really bad management make it hard to work there. the co-workers for the most part are great but the turn over rate is absolutely ridiculous, new employees weekly, management has no direction, and some employees make thier own schedules and rules. There is no leadership, you must fend for yourself, there is barely team work. Housekeeping is a hard job and with being paid minimum wage, most workers don't stay very long, and management makes no effort to keep any good workers. Cleaniness is really not important there, and no one is there to maintain some order. Not a place to recommend, to either work or stay a night at the hotel.

Such an excellent and friendly environment of work . Management always concerned about the betterment of the employees , Good place to learn more and more about the hospitality, which includes customer service, room service, maintaining working environment , work as team , productivity , etc. 
Management always keep transparency between employees and employers, they always support employee to grow up . I learn a lot about the hospitality , time management , and about customer service. 


Did my best at the job, turnover rate is high, housekeeping management team offers little support, little to no job training, other departments don’t respect your duties. Management doesn’t care anout you but you gain a strong work bond among the housekeepers, Maintenance and custodians. Equipment is aged and breaking.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Lots of work.  Goal oriented.  Excellent foreman.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Slow down in work.  One day of leaving.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great for what I did.   Painting 26 rooms.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Time clock.  To materials center.  To front desk for a key to locate a new room to prep and to paint.  Paint in a couple day and cleanup.  Back to materials center with equipment. Time clock.

Medicine hat lodge hold a special place in my life, I have worked there for about 4 years and still want to go back, just because people I get to work with. Managment has always been engaged with staff, there doors are always open if you need help. Such an amazing place to work, filled with positivity, entertainment, the best industry experience you can ever have is at the Lodge. I would recommend everyone to try their luck here. They gave me a career. 

The Medicine Hat Lodge has a great team of workers who go above and beyond to make work fun! They are positive and outgoing. I loved working there. They have great benefits and on high seasons you get a free lunch out of it. The hardest part of the job would be time management. Figuring out your times in order to get your job done. I learned new ways to make beds and do general cleaning. I would definitely recommend this job to anyone!

Everyday is different, so there's no typical day at work.
I've learned a lot since day one. Coworkers and supervisors are always willing to help and teach as many times as necessary.
The hardest part of the job is dealing with people at the front desk, specially with complaints.
