I have managed to utilise everything I learnt in the commercial sector and learn a lot about how the customer is treated in public organisations.

I have been given a lot of freedom to set out my tasks and deadlines myself and to self drive my role. This is something I fully enjoy. I have been given a lot of trust in this.

I have met some of the best managers, mostly contracting - very valuable experience.

Workload was incredibly varied and complex, but again that is something I enjoy.

The salary levels are ok. Majority of jobs are band 2 or 3 and you are always placed at the bottom of the band regardless of negotiation or experience. You are given more responsibilities as over the time you work there and never given any additional pay to support extra workload. When applying to progress, the council would rather employ external candidates over those who are already employed and wish to progress. All jobs are advertised as hybrid but not all can be done from home… if you’re looking for this, make sure you discuss with the recruiting manager beforehand.

My typical day at work was shadowing the social workers. I learned a great deal about how the system work at the  Looked aAfter Children Department. The management was efficient but working on a hot desk environment, you  get busy all the time and skipping meals is common. The hardest part of the job is lack of induction for the agency's workers as well as not having enough time to build  up relations with the team. The most enjoyable was learning how to deal with stress and in the end see the results of your work done.

What is the best part of working at the company?
No staff support, no compassion, not interested in the public. Very rapid turn over of staff 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being treated as if you had no common sense, being micro managed

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not what you know, who you know. If your face doesn’t fit you don’t 


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful, unrealistic work load

No day is the same, very busy, have to have a wealth of knowledge to do the job, i do love it but its not valued. Have been with local government for 15 years, but not had a pay rise for 10 years so I am now looking at retail work as the minimum wage is equal to my salary so I may as well take the stress away - who said knowledge is power, it means nothing to this employer.

It would suit someone who is
- resilient 
- flexible in the way they work
- flexible on outcomes
- adaptable and flexible to your colleagues and -managers needs/personality types
- self starter
- follows instructions and can mind read how  the organisation would like work carried out
- self contained 
- don't need support
- are not sensitive
- do not find contradiction a barrier to work
- happy to do whatever members ask
- you can handle being frustrated

On the plus side the employers are very flexible  and you can work from home. 

Fantastic work colleagues but be prepared to take on an exhausting work load, dealing with issues with no real support on how to address them. Frustrating processes and red tape. There are opportunities to move around within the council, but promotion is limited. An old fashioned work culture and 'old boys' network but this may change with the new administration.

A typical day at work for me is standing outside a primary school mornings and afternoons to help people cross the road safely. In my opinion this is good as it gives me time to do other things during the day as well. The hardest part of the job for me is to stay warm when its cold. The most enjoyable part of my job is meeting new people and saying good morning and good afternoon to everyone who walks past or crosses the road everyday.

Limited budgets and impossibly small teams required to take on tasks that need far more people to get the job done. Overworked, underpaid staff, little to no morale, no incentive unless you're a manager. Training is at minimum, leaving staff often unprepared for the job they are doing. Customer contact is a center for abuse from the public with absolutely no support from managers.
