A Nightmare Before Christmas: My Experience at Memorial Sloan Kettering

I recently had the unfortunate experience of working as an office coordinator at Memorial Sloan Kettering, and I must say it was nothing short of a holiday horror story. The management at this place is a shining example of how not to run a workplace, and my time there was nothing short of a nightmare.

First and foremost, let's talk about the abysmal management practices. The leadership at Memorial Sloan Lettering seems to be operating in a parallel universe where basic human decency and fair employment practices don't exist. I was unceremoniously fired right before Christmas, leaving me in complete shock and devastation. It's disheartening to see how little regard they have for the well-being of their employees, especially during a time that is supposed to be joyous and festive.

The decision to terminate me, without any apparent reason or warning, was a testament to the heartlessness that permeates the management culture. There was no constructive feedback, no opportunity for improvement – just a cold dismissal that left me scrambling to make sense of the situation while others were preparing for holiday celebrations.

The communication within the company is a complete disaster. Information is often withheld, and there is an evident lack of transparency. I felt like a pawn in a game of chess, moved around without any understanding of the larger strategy. It's clear that the upper echelons of Memorial Sloan Lettering are more interested in playing power games than fostering a supportive and communicative work environment.

Furthermore, the overall work atmosphere is toxic. The office is filled with tension, and morale is at an all-time low. It's no surprise considering the palpable fear of job insecurity that hangs in the air. Instead of building a team that collaborates and supports each other, Memorial Sloan Lettering fosters an environment of distrust and anxiety.

In conclusion, working at Memorial Sloan Lettering was a miserable experience. The management's callous disregard for their employees, especially during the holiday season, is unforgivable. If you value your mental well-being and career, I strongly advise against seeking employment at this poorly managed and morally bankrupt establishment. This was not just a job; it was a lesson in how not to treat human beings.

IF PATIENTS KNEW WHAT WENT ON BEHIND THE SCENES YOU WOULD SEEK CARE AT A PROPERLY RUN HOSPITAL. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS ORGANIZATION. 

MSKCC is a wonderful place for work, however EKG Lab specifically  stands out of the whole institution. 
With some reason the manager of EKG Lab creates a stressful and intense atmosphere in a department of Cardiology. There is nothing unusual with job responsibilities , they are like in any other Non-Invasive Cardiology department , with the only difference :
a work day for employees is chaotic, no schedule for daily responsibilities of each employee.  
Because of that, 8-10 EKG Technician are not assigned for particular responsibilities of the day, like it is on other medical facilities.
The whole team jump chaotically in all directions - EKG for Inpatients, Outpatients, placing Holter Monitors ,  organizing files , calling for notifications , scanning monitors tracings .
So , none of employees is aware of their daily particular responsibilities. Exactly  this style of performance creates stressful and wearing out atmosphere for each employee. 
Cardiology Department Manager would hardly give you any encouraging feedback, it is consistently negative and  without any  good reason for that provided.
So overall, this Department specifically is not a happy place to perform.
But, you can enjoy your work just because you can really help your patients, who need to be taken care about at a possible highest level.

There is never a place to fully relax on your break time. Management is ok but any simple mistake not having to do with the care of a patient can cause you to possibly be fired. Favoritism with in your team employees. People refer family and friends, so if there is an issue with another team employee that the company knows this person is completely wrong and going against msk policy, pray that team employee doesnt have a friend or family member that is apart of the companies Human Resource department. They will fire you. Benefit Package for employees are awesome, especially for continuing students. People are nice and friendly. There is no employee parking and the programs they do have for parking, cost too much. If your staff have to pay for parking they should consider making them pay only half. All and all it has it pros and cons but okay place to gain experience.

Been here going on 8 yrs as a PCT. Make 26 hourly. Raises are good but sometimes you are so exhausted as they are short staff but then again who isnt? My floor receives no covid patients whuch I love🙏 Overall best place to work compared to city hospitals especially. They are number 2 in the country for a reason. They are great compared to other hospitals. Still need to hire more staff for the floors though. You got haters just like anywhere else. Keep ur business private and u will be fine. Great health and dental. I dont like the 401k. It goes up and dwn with the stock market but u can always find ur own in additiin to works

“MSKCC was a disappointing workplace experience. The environment felt biased, with leadership focusing on minor mistakes instead of fostering growth. The shift lead often created scenarios that set employees up for errors and then escalated issues unnecessarily, causing stress and embarrassment across the team. This toxic approach severely impacts mental health and creates a negative work culture. I strongly advise reconsidering if you value a supportive and fair workplace.”

Bad management, depends highly on the department. I was fired because I didn't "meet the expectations" which I never was made aware of. While the manager has the right to fire anyone for any reason the first six months, it certainly isn't fair especially when you have fullfilled all assignments. 
Research 'politics' are advanced here and they wouldn't care to get rid of any 'pawns' for their financial interests. 
I was extremely disappointed. Salary is bad. 

Come in early from 7am and start putting out clean linen for every patient room on the floor assigned, unpack supply carts and put supplies away, take inventory and and place an order of supplies for the following day.

Learned about new supplies on a day to day basis

Management is somewhat flexible and fair

Great staff and great team work environment

Hardest part would be the 5:30am shifts if your a floater

Most enjoyable would be leaving early at 1:30pm if your shift begins at 5:30am

MSKCC is an excellent employer and a great place to work if you are interested in pursuing a career at a comprehensive cancer center. MSK offers very good benefits, including generous time off, and benefits to promote self-care.  Many of the current employees have been employed for many years.  MSK is a private institution that is not union based.  The institution values being just in its approach and evaluation of employees.

The company pays you exactly what they think you are worth, no amount of effort, contributions will convince them otherwise, got a exceeds expectation for your yearly eval? congrats you will be paid 3.75% , btw for be successful for your eval also nets you 3.5%. Have any input or want to pursue CEU? you can forget about it. If you work here dont expect to be promoted, management is designed to keep you right where you are.

Understaffed most of the time. As a new nurse I don't think I was prepared enough for emergency situations and they had me follow different preceptors which wasn't the greatest because everyone did everything differently. 

Lack of transparency in terms of feedback. Poor management as well. Wouldn't recommend new nurses to work here.
