A highly demanding place to work.  All staff work on 1-year contracts.  Salaries quite a bit lower than local public system. Longer holidays than public school and earlier end in June.  Four day weekends almost once per month.  Extra curricular activities are compensated.

The students are keen to learn and make the job wonderful. Class sizes are max 19.  Colleagues are for the most part supportive of one another.  

Very few opportunities for advancement, and mostly only male staff are promoted.  Opportunities are by word of mouth, and often unpaid days are required with these positions.  Management is critical and often make staff feel undervalued.  Facilities are ok in some ways, but there is no cafeteria or library.

At Mentor you are hired strictly on a one year contract basis and paid for 10 months of the school year. Therefore, if you have a bad class, administration will not renew your contract. A fearful place to work and there is absolutely no job security. Administration is marginal and too much parental influence. Private schools are all about "making money/profits" and that is it. High turnover. 

Mentor is an amazing school in some respects. The students have a lot of opportunities to try out new things, get one on one help, and to work hard. The cost for this, in management's eye, is to keep teachers fearful of losing their job. It comes up regularly at staff meetings. You'd better devote all your time to the school or else you arent what we're looking for. Permanent staff is not permanent. And most people there have a spouse with a better job.

Outstanding students and lovely grade 6 team! 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working at Mentor is amazing! I did not encounter stressful situations because we work as a team! 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was a positive cultural environment for me.

I’ve seen the kids, and the teachers. The kids, well they disrespect me, my peers, and even the principals. But aside from that, they recently started locking doors after recess. But here’s the best part, they only lock few doors, and the rest are wide open, so I’m not sure how this is helping anyone. And I get $150 a month, which isn’t enough to pay my rent, I’m quitting for next year.

I am not sure about the other reviews, but my experience has been great. The job is demanding and expectations are high, but you are supported by a wonderful administration and staff. 

Small class sizes and great students make teaching each day fun. There are plenty of activities to get involved in as well. 

Great place to work in, very understanding administration, most of the staff are very nice. Interactive curriculum that helps teacher to keep students' attention.
I wish I wouldn't have to leave but had some personal issues to deal with.

Being a Tutor at Mentor College means one has to be hardworking and on top of things all the time. As a result, this may interfere with other responsibilities such as school work. However, when one see the result of their tutoring to his/her student it truly makes them proud.

Great for a first time teacher and for experience but not certain on job security! Fantastic students who are truly fun to work with and be around. I would stay for the students but not the pay for benefits. 

Friendly environment where you learn the ins and out of the business. Work with all different divisions of the school. Friendly staff and provides a great work/life balance
