I must admit, this was one job I honestly looked forward to going to  We would start with our coffee while laughing and preparing the rooms for the 1st daily facial treatment, a most relaxing atmosphere while conducting myself in a professional manner wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be, I enjoyed the 1st client, then the next, and the next, and the next not only for the demeanor from my work on them, the outstanding results constantly being reminded of the good job that's been done, the conversations alone were worth going to work.  if I wasn't gaining knowledge of the different social aspects from all the conversations and situations I wouldn't even know there was a wage involved along with commission. By the end of the workday the feeling of accomplishment of how "I" made people good about themselves, well that's the reward itself, doing up the terminal/cash the books at the end of the day would have soon became my next step had I stayed longer.

A typical day is me coming in at 7:30am to have my coffee before I begin work at 8am. I get the reception desk and the appointment rooms setup before we open the store/salon to the public at 9am.  At 9am, I like to start making calls to confirm appointments later in the week, and at the same time, I take clients into their appointments for various services. Once my confirmation calls are complete, I have typing up receipts for clients, as well as doing any necessary filing/problem solving related to customer service. I write a daily report for head office at the end of the day and I help with the data entry for month end.  

My coworkers and managers here are all like-minded individuals and hard workers, so it's a pretty relaxed work environment. 

The hardest part of this job is being inside all day, but the best part is being able to have a job where I can leave my work at work. I really love the job I do, but the most important part is having time for myself and my family after work.

Work was usually two extremes, very slow with many one or two clients. Or so busy I didn't even have time for a break. I did learn some very valuable skills, such as problem solving and how to deal with difficult clients. Although I found communication with management there was a bit of a disconnect. Also i never had any really proper training. I simply had to do all the research myself.

My co-workers were all dedicated works and I had no issues with any of them. I did find there was a little too much gossip happening with some of the woman who had been working at the Spa the longest.

The hardest part of my job was going into work and having no work to do. I would have no clients for the day. I would either do laundry or clean something. What was most difficult about those days was we worked commission, so no clients meant I didn't get paid that day. 

On the other hand the best part of my job was the people. As Ethetician our job is to make people feel and look their best. I loved when people left happy and confident about themselves. It helped brighten up my day.

This Job is great if you are just starting out in the industry, the location i worked at though was not really busy, yes we had some busy times but that was rare. The employer would not let me use the register even though i had lots of experince using the cash, it made it difficult when she was doing a waxing service in the back and there is people who want to check out and buy products this made customers leave, upset wondering why i couldn't help them, and then has my emplyer telling people it's because i'm new when in fact i had been working there for months. I was always sent home early because there was no hours. Again this job is great if you are a student or maybe even just a summer job. 

I love what I do, I enjoy doing nails and having the artist in me create something that the client will love. I enjoyed doing pedicures, manicures, facial waxing, teeth whitening. It gives me much sanctification to see people walk out with a smile. 
I learned a lot working Merle Norman, it's where I gained my most experience, to put clients first. To work towards something that brought me joy.
For me it just wasn't an environment towards the end that I didn't wanted to be associated with in my life. I love being a teammate and working together to help each other out, and I like having co-workers that care about their job and put it above else. I like to be in a positive environment and strive for a place like that.

This location is currently under new ownership, there is no management, no sense of business, no training once employed, no structure, and isn't clean!!! Also there are inconsistent pay checks (no questions allowed about it because you'll get yelled at) and the manager doesn't actually work shifts but is who you have to contact at ALL times due to there being a assistant manager with no authority or information on how to run the store. It's just a mess of a job.. Also there is no parking at the mall hardly ever so if your a couple minutes late, look out when your pay check is also late, the new owner will use any theory she can to change the topic of pay.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The products are tried and true!! I LOVE Merle Norman products

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Ear piercing with the nasty gun… and even after stating that I was not comfortable, I was told that I had to to keep my job.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Sometimes I think perhaps cold or stale behaviour can trickle down from the top. As in management/ leadership. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hoping for no “peircings “ but also hoping everyone will share clients fairly.

Arrive in the morning on time, open the spa, turning on the computers, counting cash flow in the register, checking appointments, answering calls, booking appointments, dealing with clientele, doing laundry, throwing out garbage, cleaning ect:. I've learned to time management, more confident within myself and dealing with the public. Team work is key and communication is vital. If there where any problems above my authority, I would consult with the management.

There are slow days and fast days, it all depends but I enjoyed working here. I was able to learn alot about skin care product sales which helped me advance In other places. Lots of complainers to work with but I don't blame them. Get paid to do eyebrows and makeup all day for low pay. You're Technically doing 3 people's jobs. But it's a great way to start off getting experience and learn to be a reliable worker.

Terrible management, unsanitary work conditions, extremely unprofessional, low pay, no benefits
There is never a solid schedule and hours worked are not properly recorded meaning I’ve frequently done unpaid work. Cleaning and sanitizing tools and work stations are not a priority to the owner and on the day I left my job, I was snapped at by my boss not to clean my station (while I was in the middle of doing so) and made to take HER client.
