A typical day begins with CRM and Pipeline management.  Developing new prospects, qualifying prospects and setting up meetings to discuss customer needs and possible value propostions.
I also take the time to contact inactive contacts to keep them in the pipeline as well.  The remainder of the day is with current clients and prospects, with the final portion dealing with administration and finalization of the sales cycle.

The most enjoyable part of the job is developing deep customer relationships with both internal and external customers. Through needs analysis and consultative selling I am able to meet their needs and enhoy their successes.

That's it really: it's just a job. Don't ever expect to stay for longer than a year or so - they constantly trim the fat. Once you hit a certain pay tier, you become an instant target for 'downsizing' regardless of how much work you put in per week, what you've achieved, or what you've done for the company as a whole.
The inner politics are overwhelming. Management are usually over-skilled and horribly overworked. General managers have little interest in employee welfare, despite the constant corporate proclamations to the contrary.
Employee innovation is almost never rewarded and management are constantly claiming responsibility for your hard work with their superiors - mostly out of fear. Regional managers are forever distributing the responsibilities of the latest lay-offs onto the remaining employees claiming that these are now their updated responsibilities under the current regime.
Computer systems and tools are usually woefully outdated, connected services are constantly failing and they laid off most of their technical support representatives, so the situation never improves making the job difficult to accomplish on a daily basis - hence the longer hours.

So in the start of things I was told I was delivering to 250 houses newspapers, every week they'd give me over a thousand newspapers flyers and every few weeks magazines which I got paid a little extra for but out of the 250 houses only about 60 were actually picking up their papers and I was only getting paid $30 a week or $120-150 a month to deliver once a week so in all honesty pay was better than most towns but still really bad and not only was it bad but you had to wait till the end of every single month to get your pay,and you had from the Thursday that they delivered the papers to you until the following Wednesday to get the papers delivered but they do prefer you to have them delivered within the two days of getting them but my parents would make me put everything together as soon as I got home from school and deliver it all in one night so when I first started in the winter it would take me about 6 hours or so to do everything and then in the end of it I got it down to about two hours

A typical day at work usually started after I finished school around 3:30- 4:00 pm. I would gather all of my flyers and news papers and organize them for about an hour until I really started to package them and depending on the weather conditions I would wrap them in plastic bags. Then from around 6:00 to 8:30pm my mom would drive me around the neighborhood and I would deliver them all. I learned how to be efficient and have fast thinking skills in short amounts of time. I also learned how to communicate with others in the neighborhood about which customers wanted specific news letters on  specific dates. Hardest part of the job was just convincing my mother to drive me around because I don't have my drivers license yet. Most enjoyable part of the job was getting to know the people in my neighborhood, and making some new friends on the way; also the exercise walking door to door and doing some stairs was also good for my personal fitness.

Excellent workplace to start with. •	Managing the night shift of 8 employees and performed duties that included, inserting, receiving, sorting and shipping of newspapers and inserts to drivers and floaters
•	monitors operations of the Warehouse, Shipping  to ensure that quantitative and qualitative measures included in the operating plan are met, such as those related to health and safety, standard costs, cost reductions, productivity, customer satisfaction, production scheduling
•	Document all shipping activities in the front desk logs and through the online documentation system 
•	Act as a liaison between Smith falls performance printing facility and Ottawa east region distribution centre
•	Ensure compliance to all procedures by staff and develop healthy and safe work culture. 
•	Prepare and compile reports on production shortfalls, employee accidents, equipment problems and employee relation matters to facilitate smooth night shift operations

The company is huge itself, there are close to 1000 employees. The most challenging part was to keep the machine running without stopping, preplanning is required most importantly. if you don't succeed in the setup, you will have a bad day at work. when i setup the machine line, it runs smoothly. The hardest part about the job is setting up the flyers in the right order, there are so much work and dedication that goes into machine line. I hope I'm not trying to confuse you because there is so much that I can keep talking about this because it has so many procedures and if you get the set up right you can take a seat for your hard work and never have to leave your desk. During those free time, ill will be learning more about the machines, the machine is huge, it cost 2 million dollars and it has about 400 thousand parts. We have like 4 machines and 2 operators for each machine and 16 more employees to feed the line for each machine.

Metroland are a flyer distribution company with over 100 community newspapers in southern Ontario that carry the inserts, but they have grown into a media company. 

They now have many digital properties and magazines to go along with the newspapers and distribution. A sales person has something to offer any business looking to promote their business to any market within southern Ontario. 

The staff are what make Metroland great! They work as individuals but yet will help each other achieve their goals. 

The management team needs to be out in the market supporting the sales team more and seeing what their up against.

You have the opportunity to help every business achieve their goals buy marketing to what is important to them be it target marketing through print, flyers, magazines or digital.

As someone who loves variation in her work day, Metroland was ideal.  No day was the same when dealing with crisis and staffing issues.  Between ensuring your staff is trained, available and has the tools to do the job, to ensuring the distribution is completed in a timely manner, you are constantly juggling various critical issues at once.  The ability to keep controlled in the face of challenges and maintain a productive work place along with ensuring the department is kept up to date through change management is priority in a streamlined operation.

The most difficult part of the job was time management, there never seemed to be enough hours in the day.  Although my job was previously done by 4 people, I learned to train and delegate tasks to become more efficient in my management role.

The peers and team I worked with was phenomenal and they taught me many of my management skills I use now everyday.

Working at Metroland Media as a Newspaper Carrier is the same as working with any other company in this field. The job is specifically targeted at students under 15/16 (i.e. middle school/elementary) to make extra money on the side. As the job is for kids, the pay is abysmal and a normal person would not be able to survive on the pay.

Metroland pays ~$10 per week for 2 days of delivering newspapers to the streets. Without the proper equipment, this could take up to 8-9 hours while only getting 10 dollars. 

While the management was very nice and helpful, students above the age of 15 should not apply here. There are many more job opportunities that pay a standard minimum wage or more. Although for people not enrolling in high school, I would still recommend trying this out for some extra spending cash. This is also because there are not many jobs that children can accomplish at such a young age.

This company is ok. This is the first job I had and the experience was alright. I worked here for about one year as a newspaper carrier. The benefits are you work minimal hours depending on the number of houses you deliver to.  The only requirement is papers are delivered on Thursdays before 7 pm. The downsides are the wage is far below minimum wage when you calculate the hours you work compared to the salary. I made something like 7 cents per paper plus commission for each ad in the paper. The amount all depends on the type of ad. I delivered to about 100 houses, give or take. To fold and deliver all those papers, it took around four to five hours and I usually made around $30 bi-weekly. In my opinion the wage is way too low, but not bad for a first job.
