There was no fair treatment from management with co-workers. Some people could get away with a whole lot (like not showing up for shifts, and intentionally avoiding showing up to work with people because they don't like someone) while others follow all the rules and management still comes down on them. Some people play by the rules, and others who are in permanent positions are protected by the union and perform sub-par at work. Management chooses to keep less experienced people, who act like every day is their first day on the job - because they can offer open availability. 
There is no job security, moving up in the hospital is awarded to part-time workers who offer full-time availability. The quality of work one produces seems to go unnoticed, and management favours those with open availability rather than quality of work produced. 
It served a purpose (paid the bills), most coworkers are lovely however there are a few bad characters who seem to ruin it for others.. Lots of injustices within this work environment. You can get paid more $$$ working with other hospitals. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Awesome culture with staff and management. Management promote growth among their employees. Definitely a place to dig your heels in and grow old.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The distance from my home! Many of us travel from far to be here because it’s so great.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Top notch…A + environment. Clean environment. Staff culture is positive.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical day consists of a 12 hour shift. My colleagues are very supportive and we use a team approach. Doctors are wonderful, personable, very down to earth. Typical nursing work. Day goes by fairly quick.

They were the ones who gave me an amazing opportunity to start my career in a hospital setting which is my ultimate dream. Good thing they did not discriminate me having no hospital experience at all. Workplace not too modern yet (new building and renovations will be done come spring) but staff are mostly friendly and helpful.  Our department workload is good as well, not as busy as other hospitals.

Worked there for 3 yrs a bedside nurse. Almost always understaffed. Management tried to support "in anyway they can" except scrubbing in to help when we are really short. Hospital isnt really diverse when its comes to higher ups. Most staff are POC while being managed by...Minimal room for growth unless you have the right friend. 
all of that aside the nurses and PSW's are great and quite literally break their backs to get the work done. Many staff leave to burnout. I wouldnt recommend this hospital as a workplace unless you are planning on giving up your life to work here day and night

Management will resort to exaggerating incidents to outright lies to human resources if you are no longer in their "favour". They will find "legit" ways to harass you to try to make you quit when you can't take it anymore. They have their favorites, who can do no wrong, and the rest of the staff, they treat them like they are incompetent. Most staff are "afraid" to complain to upper management for fear of retaliation. Out of my 24 yrs with mgh, the last 8 yrs was pure h*ll because of the management on my unit for a wide variety of reasons. There are "good" managers there and there are "really bad" managers there. Luck of the draw depending on the unit!

Working with Toronto East General (Michael Garron Hospital) was a great learning experience and I enjoyed working with them. If you are new to healthcare and do not have a strong background they provide you with many opportunities when it comes to learning about patients illnesses/Disabilities. Most of the instructors are well educated and inform you about what is needed for certain clients. Every Job has its ups and downs but I could mainly recall the positives. I learned plenty while working at Toronto East General (Michael Garron Hospital) and gave me a strong foundation on how to treat patients, management, and employees. 


Current manager is not understanding and doesn’t listen to employees. Most of externs complain about him yet nothing is done. Students don’t feel welcome on the unit and are just underpaid PSW’s. Other third or fourth year externs like to judge first or second year students. Nothing is being done to help better the learning experience then most of the times we’re just being told to suck it up by management. I would not recommend to anybody.  If you’re looking for experience it’s better to just apply as a PSW elsewhere or be an extern at a hospital where the management and unit care about your well-being. 

Enjoy to work over here. Good collaboration within teams. Excellent doctors. Fair management. Health care system is really short now.Sometimes we need to work short. Great suppot system. Love to work here. Need to assess patients in accurate manner.Need to be empathetic.Dealing with end of life is hard sometims. Family needs more support. Overall good place to work. Unit has all type of supports like spiritual care,palliative care specialist,social worker,clinical practice leader,activation coordinator,SLP

Good position to gain clerical experience, bonus if you always have healthcare experience. The amount of times that I am interrupted while dealing with issues that are sometimes outside of my scope without compensation or recognition by this hospital is disappointing. I adore my coworkers, but nepotism runs upper management. Despite all the verbal praises, I get nothing from upper management. If you apply for this position, make sure you do not stay for long and that you are working towards something better.

Working in different areas to develop new skills. Very good work environment. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very busy working. Especially at ER, too many patients to manage.

Very friendly and helpful coworkers.

Very busy but manageable because coworkers are very considerate and cooperative.
