Managers are not professional, didnt put staff or clients first. all managers got fired since Iv worked there do to breaking policies. Human resources took to long to respond to issues. Managers yell at staff in store in front of clients and in back room. Staff didnt always respect dress code, and managers allowed it depending on who it was. favoritism. my client calls or visits or messages were not taken or passed on to me so I lost potential sales. Mangers were very immature. Policies and bullying happened over and over and staff were afraid to come forward.Sales targets were high but even if you made it you didnt get your commissions. Managers covered for each other. Staff was pitted against each other. Sales associates greeted clients, demonstrated the benefits of the products and tried to sell the item and insurance. Leads were put into a database. Clent info was collected. Cleaning duties are expected as well. Answering the phone is also part of our job. Calling leads is part of our job. Putting up promotional items and inventory is part of our job. Opening and closing the store, cashing out, wiping glass counter, vaccume, and throwing out garbage is part of regular duties. Restocking boxes, and jewelry is an ongoing apart of our job. Cleaning Jewelry, taking rotations to serve clients is also part of the job. Most employees fight over clients. Its exhausting to see even managers take sales away from each other or staff. I dont care if the company knows who I am. By now they would guess its me. staff know I vouched for them n stood up to everyone. I liked the items and clients and the owners didnt deserve to have their stores run the way it was and I hope changes have been made.

Michael Hill is a fast paced, high expectation, driven sales culture. If you do not love to sell this is the wrong place for you because regardless of your position you will be expected to sell, practice selling, study and brainstorm on selling, and coach selling. They have hard targets in place and retention is a big problem because many people are either driven away by the pressure to perform or are fired for not being able to meet their goals.  The company is very demanding of their employees time, with frequent after hours meetings and all day or even multiple day training seminars that can pop up with only a few days notice. Small teams mean that you will be expected to come in extra or work overtime with no notice due to people calling in sick or leaving the business. 

The trade off is a company that really believes in treating its top employees like royalty. If you are exceeding your goals then you will be celebrated, receive industry leading compensation, and even get to see the world as part of Michael Hill's international sales conference.   The executive team believes in fun and gives employees at every level incentives or budgets to be spent on fun things both in and out of the business (in store parties, buzz nights, resteraunt and movie tickets and lots of booze). 

So if you're a world class seller and a workaholic, you will love working at Michael Hill, and they will make it worth your while. If you value free time or family time over work time, or if you don't truly love to sell, find some other place to go.

My days at Micheal Hill consisted of performing opening and closing procedures. Taking jewellery items out of the safe and placing them in secured display areas.

In the short time with the company as a Christmas casual, I learned about the different grades of clarity in Diamonds. Learned how to clean Gold/Silver jewellery to give it that newly purchased look. Learned techniques used at Michael Hill to increase their sales. I got to meet and greet customers and potential new customers every day. My co-workers were fun and very helpful in my training. The hardest part of the job was having customers barter the price on expensive pieces of jewellery. Never the less, I had a great Manager and co-worker team who took the time to show me the ropes. I am proud to say I was able to make some good sales for the time I was with the company. The most enjoyable part of the job was wearing expensive and inexpensive jewellery so customers would notice the pieces and become interested in purchasing any of them.

Let's be real. 
This is an amazing place to work to develop sales skills and knowledge. It's also a great place to move around and up when the opportunities present themselves. However, this is all dependent on upper management. Your entire experience will depend not only on your direct manager, but their boss as well. I've had everything from the best work experiences and culture of my life, to the worst most depressive times of my life. I've moved around within the company a lot so I've had a wide range of management. 
They pay you well - extremely well - but expect you to work your a** off for it. 
Work-life balance is a joke - again, unless you have an awesome manager that believes in it. 
So If you want to work hard, get paid well, and get the experience and knowledge out of it, then I say go for it! This company is not for the weak-hearted. 

Pleasant, clean environment. Light housekeeping duties. Monthly inventories were sometimes stressful on management. Responsible for stocking displays daily and remerchandising and tagging stock, taking in items for repair and tracking orders. Their tutorials were very helpful and lengthy and mandatory to be eligible for bonuses. Weekly quotas were sometimes challenging in off season, but during Christmas time, attainable and lucritive. Salary plus commission structure. In slower periods, like back to school season, it's difficult to meet quotas. Their are some rock stars employed here who make a good living, but they are devoted to work and may not have the best work life balance. Their were some part time employees with other jobs, and their schedules were adjusted to their needs.

I got an email from them about a job opportunity for a Sales Professional position. They contacted me for an initial interview then they contacted me for a final interview. The interview was quite chill and I was hired right after the interview. The training was intense and it was kind of overwhelming for someone like me who has no Jewelry selling experience, It was kinda cool wearing those business attire/executive look but that didn't justify on what you are paid for. Although you can get an extra bonus, but you insanely need to work it out to get that bonus. It's so tiring to stand all day but it's kinda rewarding when you hear people heartwarming stories and be able to not just sell them but to put smile on their faces. Managers from Mayfair were absolutely supportive and helpful. Although my stay fell short, but it was a good experience to consider. Thanks Mayfair Team! You're the best. :) 

Excellent training and great benefits. Upper management only cares if you follow their system when your sales are bad. If you're sales are good you can do what you want. They say one thing but bottom line if you get the sales they don't care. way too much pressure on store managers. very inconsistent quality of Regional Managers. Absolute scum bags are kept on while good people are dispatched. Ethically some of their practices were shady. The Michael Hill value guarantee is/was fraudulent. If your diamond is appraised for less than the retail price you get 10 % back. very often you include a certificate that has the retail price listed and the appraised value miraculously is always higher. Often when it wasn't you just resubmitted it until it did.

The work environment at Michael Hill presented several challenges. There were instances where leadership did not consistently exhibit professionalism, and the store assistant often maintained an unapproachable and inconsistent demeanor, which created tension within the team. Furthermore, there were noticeable discrepancies in the treatment of employees, with certain individuals receiving less fairness and inclusivity compared to others. The presence of favoritism was evident, and ongoing conflicts among team members, including concerns regarding the unfair reassignment of sales, contributed to an atmosphere that felt more discouraging than motivating.

I’ve really enjoyed working at Michael Hill. It’s a great place to grow professionally and develop valuable skills in retail and customer service. The team is supportive and friendly, creating a positive and welcoming work environment. Management is approachable and open to feedback, which makes it easier to feel heard and valued. The training programs are thorough and helpful, ensuring you feel confident in your role. Scheduling is generally flexible, allowing for a good work life balance. The store atmosphere is upbeat, and working with beautiful jewelry every day adds an enjoyable element to the job. While it can get busy during peak seasons, the teamwork and positive attitude among staff help keep things running smoothly. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a friendly and growth oriented workplace. 

Motto of the company is supposed to be as per the corporation that the customers and staff come first.  I agree that the customers always are put first, but most often to the degradation of associates involved.  The regional management does not take accountability for the pressure that they put on management as well as the sales associates, and the store has a very high staff turnover due to this. HR is generally unhelpful and non compliant.  I would not recommend this franchise for a lasting, happy career.
