Store level managers are great, but the owner of the Edmonton locations and his assistant Owner (I think that's his title) makes it a real pain to work when ever they come by, micro-managing everything. Bugging you about your report on the vehicle you're working on like a little kid asking the "Are we there yet" every 15 seconds. Even on new vehicles they want to force their employees to mark everything as red so they can force sales.A Vehicle over 10 years old must have at least 10 red marks... Event though we have had many cases of vehicles that are well past that had an owner who maintains it in pristine condition. 

Having your own tools is kinda a nice benefit as well as a double-edged sword, as the owner comes by uses your tools for various applications either breaking it or loosing it. Your the one who has to replace it, don't expect the owner to replace it.When you factor in the amount you spend on tools per month just to get by you realize that you barely make anything on top of the money you spend on tools.

When the Owner and his assistant are in, don't expect to go on breaks as you're their slave. Bathroom breaks are supposed to be 3 minutes or less, and they will attempt to time you. Best part about the whole day is how they automatically dock an hour for lunch that you never get to take. 


The Owner cares little about employee safety, more so just milking customers as much as they have and then some. He's the kind of person if one of the lifts fails he'd just laugh at the person who got crushed, as according to him it was his fault the lifts weren't working properly.

As I mentioned above most of the store managers are great, the thing that makes this job a real pain is the Owner and his Assistant, with their micro-managing of everything. Plus with their constant "Have to milk this customer" attitude it makes it tough to be an honest mechanic.

Employee Review: Midas Auto Service
Working at Midas Auto Service was a challenging experience overall. Management often felt disorganized and inconsistent, which made day-to-day operations frustrating. Communication was poor, and decisions were frequently made without proper planning or consideration for staff input.
The shop struggled with a shortage of skilled technicians, and many of the employees lacked the training or experience needed to handle more complex jobs. This often led to delays, rework, and added pressure on the few team members who did have stronger technical abilities.
Equipment was another major issue. Much of what we used was outdated, unreliable, or simply not maintained. This slowed down productivity and made it harder to deliver quality work, ultimately impacting both employee morale and customer satisfaction.
In summary, Midas has potential, but without better management, improved training, and investment in modern equipment, it’s a difficult place to grow or feel supported as an automotive professional

The manager interviewing started off by being very late and leaving you just sitting in the waiting room. The topic of salary felt like it was being avoided and rushed through and after taking the job and having to ask multiple times what the salary is, what I was told I would be paid is not what my pay was. There is not enough equipment for all the people hired to work so someone was always stuck not being able to properly work. There was no clear direction or indication of who my direct supervisor would be and I was told multiple things from multiple people in regards of what to do so someone always seemed annoyed with what you were doing. I did not feel very welcomed or supported in my time there. Sporadically one of the managers would pop in and ask if we were ok but you were likely on the phone so if something wasn’t ok you couldn’t say anything. I would just think very thoroughly before accepting a position here on the spot. 

As a tech I worked for 3 weeks. My apprentice and store manager were amazing. However red flags immediately started waving.
My time was immediately not resected, unpaid overtime was expected on my first day. My second year apprentice was being paid minimum wage with no chance of advancement. 
The biggest red flag that made me comfortable to leave was the fact I was expected to sell jobs to customers did not need. Our trade has a bad enough reputation and I refuse to compromise my integrity.

One of the worst places to work, expect 12 hour shift everyday, over booking and misleading customers.
Operations manager a joke, don't have any work ethics, manipulation, power grubber and unethical treatment of employees . You are treated as an expendable asset, company lost over 12 employees in 3 months, so it's a revolving door. Take my advice don't get fooled by the wages it is going to ok ill you and in the end your hard work in never going to be valued. Stay away l

Horrible upper management that only cares about making money and not their employees and their employees future. Was at midas for 8 months and it was a horrible experience where I was paid the same as a entry level lube tech and had the knowledge of a 4th year and the experience as well. There is no incentive to move up through your schooling. Overall a horrible company to work at and would not recommend at all.


They expect you to work 60+ hours a week as a manager. No work/life balance. If you want time off they make a big fuss about it. Benefits are good but the benefit company is pay first submit after for reimbursement. So if you dont have alot of extra cash it's almost deterrent to use any of the benefits. If you are on the owner's good side you are golden if not you wont last long. There is a large turnaround

New employees please beware. You are over worked and penalized for being sick or taking a Vacation. There is reason for the high turn over.   Absolutely terrible work life balance. 

There is no security or support with the current owners, they will not be honest with you when recruiting, their training program is nonexistent and what they do ask and promote are unethical selling of nonessential services to their customer base. 

Very stressful working for Midas. The owner like to screem and yell at the employees. The working hours always changing from day to day. When there is not much work he send employees home instead of keeping employees there to clean or do other things. No uniforms and no benefits. Always rush to get the job done.
