I drove tandem at Mike Vail over a fall and winter. Usually had full weeks with frequent chances for overtime on the weekends. Work slowed down through the winter(as expected) and they did a good job to rotate guys through snow removal. Other drivers were always nice to chat with and very helpful. You could always reach someone on the radio to help you find where you were going. Trucks were mostly newer and in decent. Seemed like there is pretty good opportunities for advancement into bigger/better trucks (if you stay longer than 6 months and have your Class 1). Some people talk about the owner/management being jerks and firing people for no reason, but this was not my experience. They were always decent towards me and I never witnessed any of them doing anything I would call unreasonable or excessive. Over all it was a good experience and I would work there again.

Been with Mike Vail Trucking for 10 years. As far as driving, show up on time, keep the truck clean, and do your job safely without damaging anything. You will never hear from management. If you are late all the time, not looking after the truck, and running into things you will have issues with management. When it rains some of the trucks do slow down, and when the sun shines they are all out. They do rotate guys when it rains so everyone gets some hours. For the shop, several mechanics and welders have been there longer than me, seen lots come and go, and then return. Again, guys who are late all the time or do not do their job properly will have issues with management.

would never work there again. take a job there only if you are desperate. worked there a while back, would never work there again. management has written the book on workplace bullying and harassment. if you enjoy being micromanaged and hearing others getting berated over the radio on a daily basis then this place is for you. I get that they have lots of guys to babysit, and it was kinda funny hearing big mike get on the radio to give it to some poor guy, but that got a little tiring. one good thing is the trucks were well maintained. and I will tip my hat to big mike for starting and growing his business into what it is. 

Worst shop by far to ever work in, the owner has no spine. calls a meeting lines all his employees up and starts yelling at them one by one. I dont know how i made the mistake of working here, the owner is a complete nutcase, treats his equipment better then the employees. If you like being treated like dirt for a decent paycheck this is your place to be. The shop crew is pretty nice overall, but you are micromanaged from the moment you step in 1/10. Stay away from this loser and find a company that actually values there employees.

They make you call in every night to find out when your supposed to work the next day although sometime it says weather pending  which then your told to call at a certain time in the morning to find out and they tell you it’s cancelled. BUT I was told this many time and then when I go by the shop my trucks gone cause someone else is driving it and I was told the job was cancelled.  Then when you do get back to working again your truck is a mess and you have to clean it after the last guy made a mess of it!!! Plus they won’t give your last pay check to you if you quit!!!

On the verge of toxic, no co-worker support or guidelines

No variety, same day in day out

I had respect for the company but lost it very quickly and I understand why there is a revolving door. There is a lot of hidden hate that linkers in the company and the drivers. One moment they are telling you they will call when work is available and the next you receive your ROE papers stating they you quit. Simple they are not loyal employers and not honest people . .especially Pawn 

Certainly one if the most horrible places I’ve worked. Lots of yelling at both mechanics and drivers. If you like being belittle and make ok money while doing it, then this is your place to work. How the owner hasn’t been shut down by the labour board is beyond me.

Even if your job was done correctly you’ll be told what else should have been done. Shut up, don’t have an opinion or input to help make things better. However the shop crew & most of the drivers great 👍 fun team that worked hard and better when management wasn’t “Micro Managing”.

Very poor work environment.  Your not allowed to think for yourself because you're being micromanaged from the moment you step into the shop.  Shop is small and cramped, would never recommend anyone to work for this company
