A typical day at work began at 8:30 am. I was in charge of a monthly (on average) newsletter as well as an integral part of several working groups. Therefore I would spend the first hour or hour and a half of most days responding to emails I had received since the day prior. For the rest of the day I would be in touch with my working groups in order to assemble content for our newsletters while dealing with another working group in order to create and propagate new content for the website I was working on. As I was in the public sector, I had to send most of my public facing work to management for approvals.

Due to communication being a large part of my job, I learned the importance of effective and clear communication with managers and co-workers. Without effective communication between all parties involved, you risk wasted time and unnecessary redundancy. 

The hardest part of my job was fairly integrating everyone's suggestions within the work I was in charge of. Whether it be from those contributing to my newsletter or to the content and aesthetic of the website. 

The most enjoyable part of my job was to hear positive feedback about the content I created from co-workers and managers who viewed the body of work I came up with. Whether it be my newsletters, the website, or even a summary of feedback from staff  responses to a mentoring program.

Great pay and hours and very reasonable work load and demands. I worked contracts that were extended or renewed continuously (for the most part) for 3 and a half years as a collision processing clerk. I did not get offered a permanant position, nor was I able to get another positon or contract in any other field. I was happy with the pay though and was a part of the union, even though I didnt have a permanant positon, I also got no benefits. The management were very personable and understandable. I found the coworkers (all women) to be very competitive, unfair and not wanting to see anyone they didnt know or like get a position. They were very watchful and nosey and complained to supervisor and management about things that they themselves did.They were also very gossipy unprofessional and constantly grouped themselves together while saying immature and disrespectful things about me and everyone else.
The hardest part of the position was having to sit at your desk all day without being able to get up without being complained about to the supervisor by some of the more watchful coworkers.

I was very impressed by the colleagues I had the opportunity to work with - lots of great policy discussion and middle management was effective and understanding. However, the higher up you get, the more unrealistic expectations and stress pile up. Accountability is understandable, but the amount of bureaucracy in the form of every little thing needing to go all the way up the chain was stifling and time-consuming. 

The pay for co-op students is not good. A couple dollars above minimum wage to start, going up about a dollar with each successive 4 month term. 

The second time I worked for the MTO as a co-op associate, depending on the month, I learned a lot of administrative duties. A typical day at work when I took charge of administrating the Fleet Management Centre's carpool program which involved dispatching vehicles, creating reservations, and managing unmanned carpools in Thorold and Burlington through the email reservation system. I also learned how to run a competition for co-op students as I helped set up interviews, contacted candidates, set up the testing and did the paperwork that was required after. I enjoyed working with everyone of my co-workers, it was a mature, positive work environment. Management was very supportive. The hardest part of the job was keeping up with the carpool program on very busy days when there were no cars available for last minute bookings. The most enjoyable part was the learning experience, the people I met and the memories.

several minutes before start time most employees would talk over previous evenings sports etc and then discuss work plans for the day I would then assign the drivers a description of their days work and who would be with them. I would ask each driver if he had questions pertaining to the days work , I would advise them of my whereabouts for the day incase of a problem. The hardest part would be in inclement weather getting to the job site and protecting the work area from the public motorists, the most enjoyable would be the comradery amoungst fellow employees, and the satisfaction of clearly marking out the travel routes for motorists, the distance remaining for their trip and placing curve signs etc in a well situated location in abidance with MTO regulations

My typical day at work was very fun, I met a lot of out going interesting people that taught me new things everyday about how the ministry works, licenses, driving records etc.The hardest part of the job was sitting down all day for 8 hour shifts being on the computer I wasn't use to it at first... after a while I started getting use to my routine and enjoyed the paperwork I was doing, communication skills on the phone with clients, printing out driver's licenses, packaging envelopes and lots more at my workplace. The ministry of transportation I was at made my co-op experience amazing, I wanted to obtain a job there once I finished but unfortunately I didn't. I have nothing bad to say and did not have no bad working experience at this place what so ever. One day my dream is to be working for a government paying job and being very successful.

I would come in start my day by logging on to the computer going through my emails answering any that I could right away and organizing the priorities of what needed to be done for the day. I would then start but finding out which of my accounts required appointments for the day and start calling or emailing my customers to book any appointment. After I completed the appointment requesting, I would then start on my Safety and Compliance and work the both of them within my day. I had to work alone most of the day, but when needed my managers were there for me to answer any questions I had.
The hardest part of the job was the waiting for a reply from the customers.
The best was going to work to see my co-workers who made the work day so much easier.

The Ministry of Transportation has a poor culture and dynamic within its workplace. Many harassment grievances are reported and people have disclosed the toxicity they have experience working in this organization. I was harassed by a superior over the duration of the summer and experienced mental health issues as a result of it. At the end of my contract, I was then critiqued in my evaluation by the office manager because "I was not as 'happy' during my contract in comparison to the previous summer term - which had effected my workplace". When in reality the reason for my unhappiness was due to the bullying I faced at the hands of the individual who was supposed to mentor me. I tried to report these issues but I was not supported by the union or the office manager at the time.

A typical day is coming in to work going to my desk and signing on my computer. I work all day with reports sorting, batching and online input. I learned every day is different because there are many situation I can come across. Managment is very helpful and encourages the employees. Co-works are great to work with and are very helpful when questions need to be answered or problems that need to be solved.The hardest part of my job is working with multiple years for batching documents as there is thousands of documents I handle on a daily basis but my good organizational skills really come in handy when preparing this part. The most enjoyable part of my job is I get to work with a variety of different tasks in a day.

A typical day at work entails assisting other senior engineers with their work, as well as my own auditing work that had to be completed for consultants. I learned how to use software such as Ontario's Bridge Management System (OBMS), which was built upon from Oracle, to identify any discrepencies that occurred from the consultants. My co-workers were hardworking senior engineers and were typically isolated within their own cubicles. The hardest part of the job was doing the calculations for bridge drawings. The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting other students and making connections.
