This job is fairly standard on it's pay and hours for the type of work being done. Of course there is always varying factors in how many hours you can work in a week based off climate. Light rain you keep going, lightning you are expected to take shelter, and heavy rain or extreme heat they will send you home early.

The bosses in Greens are very easy going when time off is needed for things like doctors appointments, sick days, and understanding with personal situations that may require you to be somewhere other than work. They are for the most part incredibly helpful and kind individuals that make sure to tell you you're doing a good job and help you do better.

There is always plenty of staff events through the season, many BBQs, playing baseball, going to a Jays game and sometimes others also. They strongly encourage a team environment by bringing everyone together for these events and always thanking the team for their efforts.

For me, however, I found the bad started to outweigh the good. The bosses are too lenient for many things. They get taken advantage of and do nothing about it. A few staff show up late or not at all and don't get spoken to about it. On weekends staff often show up hung over or still drunk, making their ability to perform low. I understand being hung over and coming in once in awhile but it's consistently the same people and on a regular basis. A large number of the staff that show up every day well enough to work, would rather not. It is a large course and the bosses have a large amount of tasks to complete during the course of a work day, so understandably they cannot be driving around constantly keeping an eye on the staff to make sure they aren't sitting around. However they don't like to look bad so if you bring to their attention that a staff member is generally doing less work than everyone else, the bosses seem to make it out as your fault or that you are being vindictive. Staff get away with far too much there which means the hard workers are constantly stuck doing more than their fair share.

Lack of communication is another big issue in Greens. There is a large property with a high numbered staff, so the amount of supervisors is higher than you'd see at most jobs. I understand the reason for this, however they do not effectively communicate with one another to achieve the same results. There is often many ways to do the same task with roughly the same results, but it's frequent that different staff doing the same task will be told to perform it differently, which leads to issues in the process. This also is an issue when you're told to do a certain task then another supervisor comes by to switch you to something else. When you go in at the end of the day and the first job you had isn't done because you got switched, the person who assigned your first task often has no idea why it isn't done because there was no conversation from their colleague as to you being moved to something else. Sometimes it isn't a big deal and the bosses understand you were just doing as instructed, but other times it stresses them out because it was important, and sometimes when people get stressed they lash out having a negative effect of the staff when it only would have taken a simple call to one another to decide who should do what.

On the communication front, you also have to be very careful what you say and to who at this job. Personal or work wise, things spread like wildfire, and not only to the Greens Department and it quickly becomes a twisted story by the time it makes its rounds. I don't believe people should be talking poorly about other staff members, but as someone who has seen the reverse effect it has at this job I can understand why people end up in arguments or talking down about others instead of going to a supervisor. Somehow confidential complaints also end up in the wrong hands and sadly, human resources cannot be trusted to keep things confidential, the story manages to find it's way to every department in the clubhouse with names of people making complaints. This can be both confirmed by me and other staff from different departments so it was not an isolated case.

There is some big changes to heads of departments coming up shortly, and with who is lined up to take their places I imagine things will become a lot better for the club. I hope things get sorted out, people become held accountable for their actions, and it becomes a better work environment because it has the potential to be an incredible job location.

A serving job in numerous locations, such as the main restaurant, pub, and during banquet events in two different locations of the country club.

The staff at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club are the most understanding and welcoming group of people imaginable. From the staff, I have learned how to work in a team, train others, and work independently. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is hosting outside events, especially corporate parties and weddings. The hardest part of the job is attempting to remember the private members and their preferences and allergies.

I have worked a variety of different jobs at three very different levels of golf course (Public,Private,"Luxury") 

The membership and upper management feels like they genuinely want to get to know you. 

Golf Ops staff are managed directly by "Team Leaders", who also have some shifts where they are on regular duties, so there is an impressive level of teamwork and co-operation among everyone.

Also a pretty good daily meal for all staff.

Office politics is a fact of life here. Don't trust anyone. Training is minimal, and often the "sink or swim" style. You're expected to "figure things out" on your own. 
Blame culture ties in with the office politics, and you will quickly learn to C.Y.A. (cover your as). 

Absent pencil chef: if he's in the kitchen, he walks by and asks a quick "how's everything?" and disappears before you can even answer. That's if he's in a good mood so that's the best outcome.

Overall it was a good place to work, only difficulty is advancement. Some departments are better than others. Generally employees are treated fairly well, although salaries could be higher. All in all it was a good experience.

It is usually busy when there are functions, I have learned how to be more responsible and depended. Management is very respectful and friendly. All workers are friendly and respectful towards each other. Hardest part of this job would be when it is a busy day when alot of customers are in.

If your a up and coming chef this is not the place for you and not unusual for them to keep ur tips and bonuses never received mine.  Not unusual for them to make fun of ur name or hang pictures of you and make fun
