What is the best part of working at the company?
The family like atmosphere everybody watches everybody's back and we all care about making sure that we all go home every night

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I didn't actually find anything stressful about working for the company outside of the fact that I wasn't a full-time employee so that you know you're working just to shut down

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Excellent everybody communicates well with each other safety is number one over everything and secondly is taking care of your health and just getting out there and doing the job safely excellent bunch of people to work with really know their jobs really well trained

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You start the day with a toolbox meeting then a stretch then your assignments are handed out then you go out into the field to do your assignments three breaks a day or more sometimes or less depending on the work needs

Working for Mistras is stressful due to terrible management and micro managing. The managers will always want to be copied in every email and they always reply without reading the email putting the stress on the workers under them.

The managers micro manages and want you in the office by an agreed set schedule with no flexibility of coming early or a little later when the work is not time sensitive. Overtimes are unpaid and you are not allowed to bank your overtime, as a result many employees come at scheduled time and do not stay after schedule even if work is not finished. 

Benefits are lack luster with only 2 weeks vacation and cannot be negotiated. You only receive 3 sick days per year. So do not get sick if you want to get paid otherwise you will need to use your 2 weeks vacation hours for payment. 

When working for them be prepared to report to managers with no credentials and no experience out of the company. 

Nepotism is outrageous in the company.

Poor management at the very top followed by overworked and poor middle management. Pipelines throughout Alberta with poor preparation of equipment and no chemical disposal facilities at any of the sites. Most trucks drop their chemicals wherever as its up to the individual techs to deal with this. Environment Alberta/Canada should be made aware. 
Equipment sent to jobs in poor condition and with no backups. Most of the pressure is on the tech to deal with.


Tediously long online company orientation with no compensation. 
Helpful and accommodating staff on site.
Industry Average wages.
Decent benefits once you qualify. 
No swag.
Some high quality ,skilled motivated workers, some dead wood. Same as evey every other place.  



Started with Mistras back in March 2016 at the Kearl Lake Imperial Oil site. Formerly working on this same site with Acuren since 2013. Very poor Management (Fort McMurray site) from the top down to site supervisors. Unprofessional and unqualified.  Imperial Oil doesn't even like this particular group of Managers. I think and Hope Mistras in general is much better than this particular office.

Fairly relaxed work environment if you’re doing wind turbines. Can be quite hot sometimes, but so can any physical labour job. Management mostly stays out of your hair, unless you’re the L3 on-site, so that’s nice, though they are all nice people anyway. 

Textbook of how NOT to run a company or treat employees. Management is (and always has been) absolutely HORRIBLE! They’re a ‘fake it till ya make it’ kind of company that never made it, not here in Canada anyways. Good riddance. You’ve managed to put a sour taste in the mouths of hundreds of techs all across Canada. Anything to squeeze that dime. Never again Mistras. NEVER!

Mistras is a decent company to work for as the employees throughout the organization are good. Management is clicky and you cannot trust the HR department at all so do not express your concerns. They will offer and promise certain things and will deliver differently. They are not even remotely close to Acuren here in Canada and Mistras is heavily governed by Americans which doesn’t not help.

This companies upper management has a lot to learn about the way clients expectations are in Canada, hopefully they will learn. Not sure how much work they need to lose to other contractors before they do learn or figure it out.
The management base in corporate Calgary have learnt they do not need to respond to emails or phone calls. This is 
starting to develop with management in Fort McMurray

The organization values and understands the importance of a work life balance coupled with quality, safety and maintaining positive working relationships with clients and co-workers. 
Management was always available to give direction and assist whenever required.
Learning new inspection methods was also a very enjoyable part of working with Mistras Canada.
