A typical day began with checking fax and email for purchase orders to be entered, responding to email inquiries, and answering phones (which generally include product or stock inquiries). Invoicing and filing, and return credits followed, and weekly review of special order statuses, including contacting customers when orders are ready. 

While I was trained on the system basics, I was able to teach myself the finer details and became the focal for "hard to find" data. I polished my existing communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, and learned about building products, of which I had no previous knowledge.

I had excellent relationships with all of my co-workers, including management. I frequently worked alone, which meant solving my own problems, juggling multiple tasks and making judgement calls. I always felt confident that management would back up any decisions I made, and was always available to lend a hand. 

Due to the nature of the industry, we frequently ran into issues with stock availability. As the inside sales coordinator, the brunt of the customers frustration landed primarily on me. I was able to foster respectful and trusting relationships with our client base, and this enabled me to defuse volatile situations and solve their problems to the satisfaction of both parties. 

By far, the best part of my time at Mitten was working with great people. No matter what kind of day it was, we always did our best to make each other laugh and take care of each other. It was a true family dynamic.

EXTREMELY TOXIC WORKPLACE! WATCH OUT! 

Mitten has an extremely toxic work environment, unless you're the Sales manager or Upper management's pet they wont care about  what you bring to the table whether its clientele knowledge, Product knowledge, industry knowledge so on and so forth. they have had several rotations of reps prior to me joining yet they never valued any past or current reps contributions. It is a REVOLVING DOOR.  The upper management is in Saskatoon and they have no clue about  the BC market, they think  that the BC Construction market, market trends and products are the same as they use in the SK province. They barely have any products  in the warehouse keeping clients high and dry and then would blame you for lack of sales.  The compensation package that reps get can be changed at anytime without their input, so watch out for your own interests you might be making ABC today and after a few months it can be significantly less or changed to some other system at the drop of a dime. They have also had major rotation in other branches such as Calgary etc. I would be vigilant  while applying here. Best is to stay away from them. 

I worked at Mitten in the last 4 years, and this HR dept culture is toxic. Honestly, I had years of experience in HR, especially manufacturing, and the director-level staff made me full of self-doubt and depression. The job itself is very challenging at all levels. I send this as a warning that if you work for this brand of Cornerstone, you will be defeated professionally. The sad part is, is that it is cancer within the HR dept. As a part of the company that is people-oriented, this  segment is a professional dismay. Do not apply for this company. 

How busy you are depends on the season and province. Management encourages work life balance and to enjoy your time outside of work. While you do a lot of teams meetings (most of headoffice is remote) there is plenty of communication.

Compensation is okay, but does not always reflect the market you are in.

Overall a great company to work for with many opportunities to advace throughout different business units

Neutral. Not good & not bad. Employment seems insecure. All new levels of management in 1.5 years.

Busy. Management continally adds on more waste of time micromanagement projects.

My position with Mitten is the second Software Development role of my career. My team is very supportive, providing me with the knowledge, resources, and time, that I need to grow and accel as a professional. I'm assigned challenging projects that implement real change and are used to help the company function more effectively in a measurable way.

Started as a temp & work environment was good. As soon as I was hired directly it all went down hill. Management wouldn't back their employees. After an illness caused by the company they did everything they could to cut me loose, wouldn't listen to my side.

I learned many things in regards to running a business.  The negotiation of courier costs, working with landlords and property managers.

I have become very good at scheduling and delegating priorities with my staff and outside carrier.

Inventory control has been a fundamental win for me as I have been very focused on keeping overhead costs lean.

Highly understaffed.  If you work,  you just get more expectations put on you while others gossip and drink coffee.  2 of the production foreman talk down on you. Management has changed so much that it is very, very unorganized.  They only care about production,  not running its employees into the ground.

What I like the most is that it is a big, well resourced company with not only a vision for growth, but a willingness to pivot, try new things, test and fail, be creative. We are not anchored by red tape. There is a lot of bandwidth for creative problem solving at every level of the organization.
