I joined the company as an HR Administrator and was excited because this was my first full-time role directly related to my field. During the interview, I was told I would receive training “for as long as needed,” which gave me confidence stepping into the position.

However, the onboarding and training process did not match those expectations. The department was very small, with limited support available, and many processes were highly manual using tools like Google Sheets and Outlook rather than more modern HR systems. Since this was my first experience working with an older workflow structure, I asked many questions to ensure I understood tasks correctly and could learn properly.

I was willing to put in the effort to succeed — I took notes home, reviewed materials after work, and spent time learning independently because I believed I just needed more time to adjust.

Unfortunately, my employment was ended after only four days, which was surprising given the expectations discussed during the interview and the limited training period provided. Based on my experience, the environment did not feel supportive for entry-level HR professionals who are still developing practical experience.

- Limited growth opportunities
- Very manual systems and processes
- Low compensation relative to workload

I have worked for many family owned businesses and this one is entirely the worst one. Nepotism is rampant; they have their children in executive positions even though none of them have ever interacted with a customer directly. I have never worked for a family owned business that was so disconnected from its sales team. Any other business I have worked for, the CEO's and VP's regularly attend sales meetings to gain insight on what is going on in the field and how they can be a better company. These owners do not do this. They believe they know absolutely everything about the beauty industry and no one will tell them different. 
They like to hire young and inexperienced people who don't know what it is like working for a company with decent management. Their idea of customer appreciation is a 10% off sale. Employee appreciation is non-existent. You work there to make the owners and their kids rich. All costs come out of your own pocket - including customer compensation when things aren't correct. 
Literally ANY other job is better than this place. 

Modern Beauty cares about Modern Beauty only, everyone is expendable to them. They will say it’s a caring and supportive environment, but it’s far from it.  Most business advisors are contractors, you pay everything. Most in charge and in management positions have never spent a day working as a rep, but think they know it all.  The training by management is non existent, if you are lucky,  another rep will guide you. The policies and guidelines are vague at best and constantly changing and most of the time, not shared with the team.  They always talk like their customers are out to rip them off, they fight with returns or damages.  If a client gets a credit for something, it’s virtually impossible for them to use it, some are on accounts for years.  The stress level is incredible. 

Led Audit teams, and worked to meet deadlines always. Auditing a company entails reviewing the company's operations for one year, drafting a financial statements that conforms with accounting standards (IFRS), writing a management report that highlights sensitive issues that need management attention, and holding exit meetings with Management and Board's Audit Committee.
Meeting deadlines makes the job challenging, but also interesting.

Allocating responsibilities to each member of the team requires the ability to know each member's strength, not getting this right at inception could affect the quality of, and time spent on, the job.

There's always that feeling of satisfaction when an audit is finalized and completed.

They are a true success and force in todays beauty supply industry with no real competitors because the only compare themselves with who they were yesterday. They have build a leading company with offices and stores across Canada with a progressive approach and always investing in the right areas for the next level of growth. It has been a true privilege to have serve the people and owners of this company and look forward to seeing the future success.

It is a solid business with a strong executive team. They are very transparent with commissions and you always know 100% you will be getting paid as expected, if not early. The company is all business. Every decision is made in the best interest of the business. If you are serious, and willing to work hard, then you are offered a secure long-term position, like many of the existing employees (with 20+ years) have had), and the potential to make good money if you put in the time, and work. In the business advisor/sales position…It takes time and you will not see results over night so it’s more for those who are looking for a long -term position. However, with the phenomenal growth Modern continues to have, there are opportunities to relocate within Canada.

-You are expected to work the maximum of shifts per week, every weekend, every stat holiday except Christmas Day and New Years Day (Few odd ones off), Black out periods constantly around holidays 
-Unreal expectations for minimum wage
 -HEAVY gossip in and around workplace. Unsafe work environment
-They will let customers talk to you in any and all ways if they are making money (insults, harassment, bullying, threatening)
-NO ROOM TO GROW WITH COMPANY
Family owned and run whom care only about money. 
There are a few good people working here that just bite the bullet because they have been with the company for so long. For those people I wish the best - Save yourself the time because no one lasts more than a few months. They will find or make a reason to fire you.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The hours are good, they are never open too late in the evening.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I find it stressful to not be important to the company. I never felt like they cared about me and my life.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day for me included, looking to see if there is a transfer to go out on the shelves, checking the emails for any customer requests, and meeting and greeting all employees and customers as they come in.
Other employees had very different starts to their day. There was a lot of standing and socializing and not a lot of work done. It was frustrating to be a part of.

This is an okay job if you are looking for experience in the industry, but this isn’t the place to grow or create a career out of. They hire fast, the training is intense, and they expect a lot from the employees. You will be taken advantage of if you are a good worker, and not recognized for the work you do.  They do not hire a manager or team lead at each store so there is a lot of confusion and grey areas for staff members. Upper management is rough, hard to get ahold of anybody and doesn’t feel like anybody really knows what’s going on. 

All in all, the job is not worth it for what they pay and the outcome is burnt out employees that can’t afford to live. 

Honestly, as much as i love the products modern carries, the way the place is run and how management treats the “showroom girls” is a monstrosity. I had stress headaches multiple times a day while working there. I would puke from anxiety if i had to ask for a day off or to switch a shift. I would have stern faces staring down at me through glass walls from the offices if i took a water break. Save yourself and just dont apply here. They need to figure out how to truly care for the people who make their business run.
