Honestly, where do I start?
If you’re a professional who knows and understands your value, do not work here! If you’re a part-time employee who wants experience and you’re OK with earning barely a living wage, then take the risk. But, this company will destroy any work-life balance you try to create for yourself, and when confronted with issues regarding working conditions, job responsibilities or anything meaningful, management will tell you how much they care but will never follow up with any reasonable solutions to the problem. Professionals are often burdened by admin and management staff to do tasks that are outside of their job responsibilities. And the company, for some reason, does not hire enough people to do the essential administrative jobs that are necessary for a business to run efficiently. 

Management is a joke here. And ironically, are the only people who stay “long term” at the company. Staff retention is non-existent. People might last one year there, maybe. Frequent issues with pay, despite most people being on salary (???). 

The management team promises wage increases, improved infrastructure, more equipment, but never follows up, or will provide an absurd timeline or tell their staff they need to wait longer or that it is someone else's responsibility to deal with that issue. 
Absolutely no accountability from higher ups. Lax health and safety protocols, often neglected until they’re forced to deal with them. Lack of training for all staff, which makes effective time management and organization impossible and can lead to substandard treatment. Extremely low wages for hourly staff. 
The company is max for-profit and it is obvious that is their #1 priority.

The staff do their absolute best to provide the care and support the clients need, but they are overworked and burnt out. It’s actually quite sad.

If I'm going to add any pros:
diverse team, work at home options, flexible scheduling is possible, although your schedule will be packed no matter what so expect burn out  at some point. The pros do not outweigh the cons.

A typical day at work begins by mentally preparing oneself to enter the building. The kids are amazing and the field itself is very interesting. Management and administration make it difficult to know what each day will look like. Will you be paid correctly? Will you have a steady schedule? Will you get a full 30 minute (unpaid) lunch? Will you have to work with a client you are untrained to work with? Will you have a choice? You'll be okay if you don't need anything in return from the company and if you tolerate the "just for today's" without any issues coming up. 

There is a strong "fix it yourself" solution from management when issues arise. They are great at offering advice instead of changing stressful policies. Management has no (to very little) presence in "ABA land" where the work with our kids is done. This leads to really weird decisions being made to solve ongoing issues...solutions rarely make any sense and often lead to new issues. They try..but don't really care enough to get involved where change is needed most. There is a high level of unhappiness and lack of motivation amongst team members, this leads to gossip, complaining, and leaving tasks uncompleted amongst staff (supervisors included). For a field that knows the value of motivation it is really surprising to see how little Monarch House values their employees and how unwilling they are to compensate and motivate their employees to do better.

The company can do better, and hopefully will someday. The field is great--I'd recommend trying it out (generally people stay for a few months to a year, so give it a shot)

I have had a very good experience with Monarch house . From managers to every level of staff, from administration to every individual, everyone is cooperative. It's a healthy environment where everyone contributes their efforts for the benefit of the company and clients . There is flexibility in hours. Whether you want to do a part-time job or a full-time job, you can choose the hours you want. I would recommend working here and gaining experience in this company.The only thing I’d add on to it that for new employees specially for BI, there should be a training session first, followed by introducing them to clients so that they are fully prepared. I hope, this will happen in future , and things will become even easier.
In all the companies I have worked for until now, I have attended training sessions, but none of them provided such a detailed explanation of my experience. It's very good that training is conducted in such a thorough and understandable manner. Additionally, I have noticed that the environment is very relaxed, which makes it easy for you to understand things in a relaxed manner. The way of explaining is very easy.


During my time working at Monarch House in Calgary, I had a positive experience with the local office management, staff, and clients. The Calgary team was supportive, professional, and genuinely committed to client care.

However, my overall experience was negatively impacted by issues at the organizational level. Despite the efforts of the Calgary office, senior leadership and HR practices were disappointing. Staff were often laid off or terminated without adequate communication or support. Mileage was not reimbursed, and expense forms necessary for tax purposes were not provided. Furthermore, there was minimal preparation time allotted between client sessions, creating unnecessary stress for employees and compromising service quality.

Client concerns regarding inconsistent services were frequently overlooked by upper management, leading to a high rate of client dissatisfaction and turnover. Unfortunately, these systemic issues reflected poorly on the entire organization.

While the local office tried its best, significant improvements are needed at the corporate level. I would not recommend working at Monarch House based on my experience.

This is a 50/50 place to work, really. If job security, or consistent hours are important to you, I would be aware. If you sign a contract for salaried hours, they will likely change it shortly after your hire date and give you no other alternatives. If issues arise with other people you interact with (coworkers, care team members), management has a “fix it yourself or it’s probably your fault” attitude. Little to no advocacy for employees on managements part, and a healthy work-life balance will be preached but not really practiced. I had many issues with being paid on time/correctly, or compensated for my time. Most coworkers are friendly and the clients are great however do not get too comfortable as your position is not always guaranteed. Definitely ask questions regarding your contract before signing. For early BI’s, they will make you feel a sense of belonging and then use you for for your ignorance and willingness to help. Has lots of continuing education opportunities, though. 

I had a really positive experience working here. The paid travel time was a huge bonus, and I loved the monthly kudos and prize draws that the team leads organized. It made the work feel fun and appreciated.

I was fortunate to work with an amazing team lead who always offered support and guidance. They were incredibly understanding, approachable, and genuinely cared about the team’s growth and well-being. Team group Gryffindor!

I ended up leaving because I got into my master’s program, but if it weren’t for that, I would have happily stayed. I would definitely recommend working here to a friend. The only area that could use some improvement is the sick policy and benefits, since we work in environments with higher exposure to illnesses. Overall, this was a truly great place to work.

Monarch House was a great company to work for. Everyone is very supportive and helps you out when needed. The job hours were flexible, depending on the clients you worked with, but the scheduler did a great job accommodating all of your needs. The workplace culture was great, with monthly team meetings that allowed you to win prizes based on praise for your work. You were able to work remotely, at the office, and the client's house based on your schedule. Due to the nature of this job, you will learn new things every day on the spot, but everyone at this job does their best to work together and collaborate for the client's needs. The most enjoyable part of this job was working to help make a difference in someone's life, and being able to share that with co-workers who were working towards the same thing. 

Working as a behavior therapist or interventionist was extremely stressful.
The worker can face very challenging cases without having the appropriate support. The worker's energy would be drained by the end of the day and shockingly he/she would be paid very little money despite that stressful and challenging work. This company should rethink the way it treats its BIs because they are considered as a "low class" or "less important" than the rest of the team. BIs confront the most challenging behaviors on a daily basis so they need to be respected and paid more. The company needs to train its trainers how to be good, respectful, and kind trainers before giving them this job. Trainers should understand that they are not superior. That being said, MonarchHouse has some wonderful people who work so hard to help families and it was a great chance to learn from them.
