Moraine Lake Lodge

Moraine Lake Lodge is an excellent place to work where you can live in and explore the most beautiful place in the world. The owners and GM have been there for many years of their lives and they take extreme pride in their property, as they should, it is exquisite.

If you are a Supervisor of a department, your job can be very taxing and exhausting but not un-enjoyable. Managing the staff in such an incredibly fast paced environment can be very stressful but not unrewarding. As long as you are firm but kind and understand your demographic, you'll be great. You are working and living in a very young environment.

They offer staff accommodation on site due to the remote location of the lodge.  It is not great and is very cramped and only about ten to fifteen of you will get a personal space. Generally speaking, that's typically couples who were hired together. A door is a hot commodity. If you enjoy camping or living in a dorm style environment, you wont mind this at all. Over the years they have been very focused on the improvement of the staff accommodation and are still working to improve them. I'd give it a chance. They also offer meals for their staff. Cereal and sandwiches are always on the go, there's a hot breakfast here and there and a hot dinner every night. You'll eventually get sick of the options and you'll never want to see bread again at the end of the season but hey, it doesn't cost you much. Luckily, some of Canada's finest restaurants are within a short driving distance. If you don't have a car. you're going to wish you had one. Befriend someone with a vehicle as fast as you can. You'll be grateful that you did.

Keep in mind before choosing this job that you are living on a mountain and are very secluded. Everything that you take for granted  in the city is miles away. Driving to nearby towns like Banff and Canmore will become a weekly routine. Your nearest Timmies or Starbucks is 45 minutes away. If you are an outdoorsy or very physical person, you've arrived in heaven.

Working at Moraine Lake Lodge is truly a one of a kind experience which I would highly recommend to young people looking for the experience of their lives. You will never forget your first drive up the mountain as long as you live and please respect the environment you're in. Take care of it. A big part of your job is being an environmental steward. You'll understand why, when you get there.

- I start my day by getting the Daily Room Status Report from Front Desk and assign team members to clean certain amount of rooms. We are using walky talky to communicate within our housekeeping department. Whenever each team member finishes his/her room, he/she will update me over the walky talky, then i will go to inspect the rooms to make sure they meet the expectation and standards of Moraine Lake Lodge. After that I will confirm to the Front Desk for which rooms I have checked. I also have to make sure that all Departure rooms have to be done before check-in time.
- I have learnt a lot of how to become a good team lead. I always keep up as role model with good performance.I've gained my patient and emotional intelligent skills which are very helpful to motivate the team as well as avoiding conflicts due language barrier and misunderstanding.
- The management gives great care for their staffs. If there is an issue, the staffs can come and talk to them about it with their professional hospitality.
-We have such a diverse and friendly workplaces. Everyone comes from different cities, countries. They look after and support each other and have a lot of fun when we have time off.
- In my opinion, the hardest part of this job is to keep all team members up to one standard level because each individual has different drive and passion. So as a team lead, I think I should try to understand what is each team member's needs, drive, strength and weakness in order to motivate or couching them.
- I love to work at Moraine Lake Lodge because of the beautiful people and landscapes surround me.

Those 2 summers where the best I've ever had, it was so much fun working with Moraine Lake and the people you meet are so friendly. The typical work day there was getting up and doing a normal 8 hour day sometimes less, but you can also get overtime if someone needed help or if another department needed help. You live at the lodge in staff accommodation, which is actually pretty good, they are shared rooms but they have curtains to give each member privacy, normally 6 to a room. Its a very welcoming place and you can meet people from all over the world there. The management is super nice, welcoming and they care for the employees. The most enjoyable part of working there is meeting people and learning new things. The one thing that isn't all that great is if you don't have a vehicle or licenses it's hard to get off the mountain and its about a 15-20 min drive down, but there is a staff vehicle that can be signed out and used for personal pleasure.

I worked here for two summer seasons. I worked in the retail shop, you get a LOT of simple tourist questions throughout the day. The lodge is very remote but it was my first mountain job and I got used to it and fell in love with the area. There are lots of perks to the job. Free canoes, and being at the start of so many amazing hiking trails. But know there is NO cell phone service and so so internet (National park doesn't let them upgrade I believe). But all the other people who work here are happy to hang out and go on hikes or any number of things. The management is super cool just do your job and everything will be gravy. The food can be an issue for some. I really never had any complaints. The staff cook needs to make meals that are palatable for 60 staff so sometimes its not your favorite but there is a sandwich bar you can make sandwiches or salads. And  the village is only a 20 minute drive down the road to get snacks for your room. But things do change from season to season this was just my experience. Would recommend for a very fun summer.

This place is not for everyone so definitely consider how isolating the area is before working and living there! With the parking issues to the wi-fi problems, e.g not being able to watch netflix, youtube etc.

It is a very small and close group of staff that you will see and get to know. Some people thrive and make friends for life in that environment, but it is not for everyone. 

I give Moraine a 3/5 because it has potential if the parking issues were fixed, the staff food was better and the staff accomodation wasn’t from the 70’s and very damp/mouldy. 

It can get quite claustrophobic with everyone living, breathing and eating with each other 24/7. If you are introverted and really appreciate and thrive in having your own space then this place is not for you. 

However, great staff experiences like white water rafting, bowling etc and you will be able to see the northern lights. Plus, the lake is beautiful and you will not get tired of the view! 

Management has been excellent over the years, with little advancement, but I highly recommend it if you want to spend the summer in this beautiful location. I've returned a few times, things have changed a fair bit over the years, but they're still good. It's difficult now that there are no vehicles driving up to Moraine, which is why I wouldn't want to return. This is more Parks Canada's fault than Moraine Lake. But it'll definitely make it a challenging place to work considering you'll have to do a bit more planning whenever leaving at weird times for hikes or returning late at night if no one is available to pick you up to bring you back to Moraine.. Worth going for a season to see if it's for you. 

I really loved working at Moraine. Management is really good and approachable. I really felt taken care of and we had some activities organized for us. The team was awesome as well and very outdoor oriented so you will make friends and go on adventures for sure ! 

The only thing I didn't like was the staff accommodation. It's not bad you have your little room with a bunk, desk, closet and a curtain door but you I'm like always hungry so I couldn't keep food or cook anywhere. Most people would be totally fine with this.

Great company benefits/perks that are hard to beat anywhere (financially and activities). Well managed and friendly. Super affordable accommodation and food. Accommodation is nothing special but just like any other seasonal staff accommodation. Amazing place to live. Very busy so expect to work hard but be rewarded. 

Superb place to work!   Excellent balance between work and play.  They make sure that you are well taken care of and it feels like one big family over there!   Great atmosphere for work and especially if one is wanting to learn a new skills set!

had some issues with a co worker and management did not deal with it - literally told me he was too busy and to just deal with it myself. The views were amazing
