I am not going pull any punches here. I really liked working with the people. The atmosphere was great. I do want to point out that Motion Specialties bought our store. Layed off half the staff and increased our yearly goals...essentially setting us up to fail. They performed each of these steps with no warning. They seem to want people in the dark as to what will happen next but assure the employees that they will do what they have to do..I dare say showing up and closing a location unannounced. Motion Specilaties will truly drive you nuts with their methods. Often times I was financially supporting my own jobs. In spite of my requests, Motion Specialties just did not see an issue with not having the proper things in place to service their clients (Once again, minimal staff, minimal supply in practice) . These descisions were made by unseen higher ups in the company. It was very frustrating. 

Upper management transparency is nil. You never see them. You may meet them once. But they have no idea who you are and do not seem interested in learning. Perhaps this helps their business model work. You begin to feel like number. As long as the numbers add up, you have a job. But the day they do not add up, someone just shows up from somewhere and starts randomly letting people go. This alone makes for atmosphere uncertainty which I believe is what Motion Specialties wants to project as in their flawed model, as it seems fear of losing your job without reason is the motivator for hard work. This combined with technology that you are forced to update with what you are doing at ALL TIMEs easily pararelling Big Brother mentality. This tool alone makes you feel as if you are always being watched and your very own input into this program can one day be your demise. Question these methods and you will be met with, "If you don't like it, then you have something to hide" Yes, that was actually said in a meeting. You get the picture? 

As mentioned before, you can never feel as if you have any job security. Motion Specialties number one goto to make the numbers look good is layoffs followed by understaffing mupltiple locations. When the employ this method  they generally will direct several locations work to one office...and often one desk. Everyone else who did the same job at the other locations are let go without warning. Think of this for a moment. You are essentially competing to keep your job against someone you don't even know at another location. If they are persitant to upper management that they can handle your workload from their location...they could eliminate your job in order to secure theirs. 

As I said, the people are generally good people to work with. But upper management has no qualms in making sponatneous career ending descisions in order to make their numbers look good.

A typical day was much like any other service technician/mechanical technician type work. An item needed to be fixed so we would diagnose issues, present solutions to clients, and proceed with repairs where needed. 
The main difference of this job compared to other service jobs is that these products were wheelchairs and scooters and often the customer chose to stay in them while the work was being done. It's also unique in that the person and unit had to be perceived as one cohesive apparatus because of the function of the equipment... a wheelchair acts as an individuals legs, spine and sometimes their arms. 
The management team had very different approaches to managing people and the assigned work. The company is owned by a major holding corporation so the management is very "quota and month end totals" oriented compared to people oriented. 
The coworkers were basically set up in three teams - service team, sales team, and reception/office team. There was a definite team spirit within the three areas themselves, especially in the service team, but there seemed to be a barrier between all three of the groups as a whole. Everyone was friendly to one another in a group setting but there was apparent derision in a one on one basis.  
The hardest part of the job from my point of view was the emotional aspect - You are working with people and families who have special needs and sometimes their condition and circumstance can really tug at the heart strings, especially families with kids using the equipment. 
The most enjoyable part of the job for me was the technical aspect. Working with my hands is enjoyable and rewarding. Being able to see tangible evidence of a job well done is a big plus.

My typical day at work was to come in, find my work orders not ready, and critical customer parts not ordered by management due to "cutbacks". 
I learned that even a profitable company can be ruined by a disconnected, arrogant, top heavy corporate management system. All service techs are underpaid, underappreciated, untrained in technologies they install due to the company not being willing to pay for training. 
The workplace culture is one of rock bottom moral, reinforced by bizarre and often contradictory orders from upper management. Endless empty promises about more people being hired to help with the load, training and critical stock levels. 
The hardest part of the job was figuring out how to complete work orders without the right tools or equipment since management thought that proper equipment and training is not necessary, even though we installed critical safety equipment in disabled peoples houses and vehicles. 
The most enjoyable part of the job was successfully installing mobility equipment and changing peoples lives for the better, despite the many stumbling blocks management forced on their employees.

Do not allow they're scripted responses to these reviews fool you, the other reviews are pretty spot on. Management has no clue whither it be how to run a location/business properly or how to foster a good work culture/environment. 

Pay and benefits are ok if your in a bind but how they operate and do business will wear you thin. Same issues you hear from RPNs, PSWs, etc. can apply here as well. You've heard of Amazon drivers not having time to properly relieve themselves, same here folks. In an industry that should be focused on delivering exceptional care and service to some of the most vulnerable they are not. Management doesn't have to know a thing about the industry or even industries closely similar. A large knowledge and skillset deficiency.

Very open and jovial work environment that included daily consultation with sales reps, other support staff, management, and warehouse staff.
You can provided same products and services yet do so in completely different manner.
On site management team had open door policy and took time to speak with all employees when needed.
Most of the co-workers were quite acceptable to having new staff and ideas on site.
The hardest part of the job is hearing the many hardships the clients had endurred to get to the point where they needed the company services.
The most enjoyable part of the job was the ability to help the client get what they needed to enhance their daily living needs.

this is an entry level position.  This is a dumping desk for everything that happens in the office.  Left to your own devices to figure things out for yourself.  Product knowledge and years of employment does not make someone a trainer.  When asking office manager questions responses are in a patronizing and condescending manner. CRM system is prehistoric and training is horrendous.  Expected to go solo after a week with little direction due to process and instructions being unclear.  GM is MIA and office manager is moody beyond acceptance.  Employees are nice people.  

The working conditions are terrible with no available working stations or proper chairs to use.  Bathroom is disgusting with no ventilation and the kitchen is no better.

The interview is one sided with questions being fired at you ending with "do you have any questions".

Pay is poor for amount of work required.  Don"t quit your job to go here.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Helping clients stay mobile and independent. Always something new to learn and always encouraged to learn. Working with community partners. Fast paced  and challenging. Monday to Friday. Good benefits. 


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Fast paced and challenging. Never seems to be enough hours in the day. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Supportive and upbeat. Friendly and compassionate. Everyone works well together and values your contribution. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Answering phones, responding to emails, scheduling client requests for parts and service. Creating purchase quotes, repair quotes and scheduling service and installation of mobility and home safety equipment as well as delivery of purchased and rental equipment.

Management is a nightmare at Motion, although the store manager was good to work with the regional management made no attempt to get to know any of the employees. The location I worked at from the beginning I wondered how they stayed in business. The department I worked in had 4 employees (including myself) which could of been done with only 2 workers which meant that most of us didn't have a lot of work to do and provided ample down time to goof off. I still don't know why they hired me because there wasn't enough work. 

Typical work day would be get into work at 8AM, rarely have a booking before 9AM for a service so we waited around. Most days the last job was done by 3PM so there would be another 1.5 hours of waiting around to go home. The best part of the job was being on the road going to different customers to repair their equipment. 

A good place to work if you like helping people in need and are willing to work hard, go beyond your job description and are team orientated.

Staff are friendly but there are a few too many passengers and this is why I gave "Job Culture" a three. Those who do put in their 100% and are always looking to make a difference, these people are a credit to the industry.

It's an 8 to 5 job, no weekends. The salary is fair and the benefits have vastly improved over the past year. The Health/Dental plan is very good and just recently Critical Illness Coverage and Group RRSPs were introduced.

If you work hard, do your job, be a team player ... you will not have to worry about job security. Management is fair and always there to listen.

Been with Motion for 12 years, never got a raise. Employees after me have started out with a base salary much higher than mine. The new employees have lower or no commission margins to obtain. Asked my manager for a raise .. we will look into it .. never happened. Where is equality they talked about, fair pay across the board? The bottom line is all thereafter, not fostering employees' concerns. Yearly evaluations are a joke, a A+ report gets you nothing! Service is terrible, the manager does not have a clue of what is going on in the store. Not sure why the head of the company does not take a closer look at each store area and determine where the low-lying fruit is. I take pride in customer care and service, that does not appear to be the issue with this company. Again sales sales sales.
