Motivator

For the past year and a half, I have been working at GoodLife Fitness in Antigonish as a Motivator/Customer Service Representative and a Fitness Advisor. In both roles on a daily basis, I promote health, fitness and overall well-being—not to mention I thoroughly enjoy every second of it. While one of my roles as a Fitness Advisor is to sell memberships, it is far from the main role. As a Fitness Advisor, my job is to focus on “changing lives” as we like to refer to it at GoodLife. To explain, that entails working through the change process with each prospective individual. This is the part I enjoy most. We establish their health and fitness goals with a given time frame and urgency, discuss their eating habits, time constraints, health history, overall lifestyle,  as well as anything that may have been preventing them from changing until now. Another important aspect of the Fitness Advisor position is awareness. On a weekly basis, we go out into the community and raise awareness—at the local grocery store, farmer’s market, or one of the many events going on around town.  I feel as though these positions in combination with my past jobs have taught me to be part of a team, take initiative and be a leader when necessary. In addition, I have built upon my already well established communication and interpersonal skills. 

A typical day of work on a weekday consisted of, scanning members into the gym, answering questions about memberships, class and the general gym area, answering phone calls, doing paperwork for members and submitting paperwork at the end of each shift, keeping motivator areas tidy (tanning beds, front desk, filing folders, laundry room.) This job also required having to sell memberships when sales representatives were not there. I learned to be professional and confident in a fast pace work environment, as well as being organized and multitasking with paperwork and things the members wanted done. The employees at Goodlife are the most amazing reliable workers any manager could ever ask for. The hardest part about the job was dealing with management and unsatisfied customers. The most enjoyable part of the job was helping regular members and being able to get to know them and make relationships. Another enjoyable part of the job was being able to make relationships with all the employees as well.

Being the front line of a fitness facility is a very rewarding job. It allows me to assist in and witness people changing their lives. I am able to learn valuable communication skills along with various secretarial tasks. This job continues to teach me multitasking, patience and valuable lessons on personal health and fitness. Welcoming the members into the gym gives me the opportunity to add whatever amount of motivation is needed, whether the member is yawning, sore, or simply uninterested. We can offer a complimentary Personal Health Profile with a personal trainer, introduce group classes, or even offer to join them on a workout to gives them tips and support in order to reach the fitness goals they desire.

A typical day at work would be warm and welcoming. From working at this job it has taught me exceptional patience and thanks to management I have been able to live a very balanced work schedule that also allows me to enjoy my personal life. The workplace culture is inviting and inspirational as we all have common interests in the fitness industry. The hardest part of my job is not always being there even when I am not working, I am there having fun and interacting in a positive way that builds community with employees and clientele. And the most enjoyable part of my job is being able to work with a loving team but also work independently knowing there is confidence in what I do and doing great at it.

I loved working at goodlife and with the public on a daily basis. It can be rewarding helping others achieve their personal goals. I learned to problem solve, work with a group and how to lead a team. The management was extremely helpful and educational. My co-workers were motivational and always fun to work with. The hardest part of the job was planning around a schedule that changed on a regular basis. The most emjoyable part of the job was being able to watch people work towards and achieve their goals as well as the amazing people that i worked with and became friends with.

Great work environment! Our Goodlife motivators are absolutely amazing at working in teams. I've experienced many different types of clientele and we are faced with different challenges every day. All conquered of course! The hardest part of the day would probably be around 5:00pm when the gym is at it's busiest. Many tasks have to be done at once but we always pull through! The most enjoyable part of the job would be the people I work with. We have all created a special bond with each other and we like to call ourselves a little family :)

Working at goodlife fitness as a motivator is great. Everyday there is a great staff that pride themselves on having incredible values such as caring. Working at a place that values making people's lives better and that endorses a fit and healthy lifestyle is great because those are things that I value greatly.

Some customers are not patient, so we should try and be as fast as possible. Because we cannot give some clients more time. When management is busy, we have to step up our game and not waste time daydreaming. The hardest part is having to deal with different issues, different clients and concerns at the same time. The  most enjoyable part is having a wonderful staff that helps each other.

Goodlife fitness is a great place to work as it usually does it's best to accomodate the needs of its workers. I have worked here for nearly 3 years and it's one of the best jobs I've ever had.
