I’ve been with the company for 4.5 years. It has its moments but overall I have enjoyed my time here. I love my coworkers. I never dreaded going into work because I enjoyed my time spent with them.  Aside from that, there is a heavy workload - especially if you’re part of management. The higher ups expect a lot from you, and the DM always has a long list of things to change or complete within a 48 hour period. You don’t have a lot of personal visual creativity as everything comes in a directive from the UK. They often miss the point that what may work in England, doesn’t always work in Canada. 
The pay is better than any other mall retailer I’ve worked for. If in management, they provide 3 weeks of paid vacation and decent benefits. You also get a bonus in the spring if your store beat the previous years sales. Oh and you get 50% off as your employee discount. 
There’s a lot of stock to do daily. You get multiple shipments each week and there’s tons of product that has to be sorted and put on the floor. You also need to learn a TON of product knowledge. But it’s definitely cool to learn because there’s so much in the camping/outdoors culture that I had no idea about.  With that being said, some of the products are cheaply made, and I have suggested to customers to go somewhere else when it came down to buying something specific. 
Overall it’s been pretty good working for this company. I do wish that scheduling was a bit more flexible but I think that’s just a personal thing. If you don’t mind working evenings and weekends and having a different set of hours and shifts each week then I’d say go for it! There’s room to grow but I’d say it’s hard to get past manager.. as it would be with any retail store.

I had worked for this company for almost 3 years and it is so un-organized. They still face the same issues and upper management shows little to no interest in trying to improve it. For example, they don't know how to send a safe amount of stock to stores. A store with a back room that can safely received 60-70 boxes should NOT be receiving 100+ boxes. This has been going on for years, which the DM does not care about. The DM's excuse is, " well all stores in our district are over stocked". They have unrealistic expectations and do not want to give you the support OR the hours to achieve their goals. The DM likes to focus more on threating you with corrective action, rather than actually coach or train you. This company likes to micro manage and it is like you are walking on egg shells. Very toxic environment to work for. Once you are not working out for the DM, she will find anyway to get you out. For example, like cutting your hours. HR is only one person and always takes the side of upper management. They will get you with the wage but will not give you a raise! They expect you to get 100 things done but are not willing to pay overtime. This company DOES NOT CARE for its employees. They are planning to open 3-4 more stores in BC this year, when they barely can run or staff the stores they currently have. Ever since the current DM has started there has been a complete change to ALL members of management in all the stores in BC. What does that say about a company with such a high turn over rate? Do not waste your time with company!

There was little to no training given to myself for my role and I was treated like I already should've known how to do most things. The manger that hired me quit less than a week after I was hired. The next manager was rude and made no effort the train or help the team get better. Openly calling them a "bad team" and speaking badly about individuals, including myself to other managers and employees, behind their back. Public putdowns were also common. Didn't matter if it was in front of another employee or a customer, the manager would tell you how bad of a job you were doing, No constructive feedback was offered or a chance to ask how you could improve in the future. This created a very uncomfortable working environment for the whole team. That manager was transferred to another store less than a month after and I was put in charge of the store. Still with no training after two months of working there. I was put into a failing situation and no form or support or reassurance was offered. Instead I got talked about behind my back by other managers to my own team. The team and myself would talk about feeling pressured and stressed daily. 

There is no focus on employee satisfaction. I was seldom asked about comfort and or how I getting on with the job. There's a huge focus on numbers and or emails. If they want people to stay working for this company they need to establish a healthy and connected relationship with upper management. This experience was no fun or educating. I feel like a learned nothing about the job position or myself. 

Part-time sales assistants, expect weekly rota to be delayed, sometimes with only one week's notice if the store is short staffed. Expect to be asked (sometimes guilt tripped) into coming in for extra hours than on the rota. Due to low pay, mainly inexperienced students hired, which can be frustrating as adds more workload for the more committed/experienced members of staff. Don't let this put you off if you are indeed a student, they gradually train staff and don't expect too much too soon so easier to get going as a first time job. Just wish MW would offer better pay to attract a wider range of ages for part-time staff to limit the stores.

It IS hard work, its busy work, but that can be very enjoyable and fulfilling. Especially when you have been there for a month or so and can start to confidently and independently help customers with their shopping needs.

Hardest part of the job is dealing with customers who have been misinformed by the lacking terms and conditions on voucher discounts which don't specify exclusions from discounts e.g. clearance or end of season stock that have been decreased by staff independently. This causes much distress to myself and other till staff who are forced into a confrontational incident with unhappy customers. Luckily, this is seasonal, not year round.

A typical day involves helping customers with product knowledge, processing stock, assisting management with merchandising, and keeping the store clean. I’ve learned a lot about retail operations, customer service, and taking initiative. Management can make or break your experience, but I’m fortunate to have an incredibly supportive manager who leads by example and motivates the whole team to do their best. The workplace culture is friendly and collaborative; people rely on each other, and everyone’s contribution is valued, though this may vary by location.
The hardest part of the job is the disconnect between corporate and the realities of store operations. Some mandated tasks slow us down more than they help. The wage is also extremely low for the industry, and bonuses don’t meaningfully bridge that gap. It often feels like corporate doesn’t prioritize employee well-being. The 50% staff discount is nice.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The company pay fairly and have a good career path if you want to go down that route. The benefits included are also pretty good for a job in clothing retail. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The company have a tendency to push a lot of stock into stores. At times it is impossible to deal with. The  response from Head Office is often a complex version of ‘not our problem’ 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture is generally good but within a store the culture is entirely set by the manager. A bad manager will have a store with a poor culture. A good manager will have the opposite 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
There can be a lot of work involved in keeping the store running smoothly. Often too much for the hours given.

Mostly you will be selling clothes and maintaining the standards expected. Management will have a responsibility to complete all paperwork and make sure the store is running legally. It’s a standard job in clothing retail.

Very very poor management and horribly weak, not helping and laziest DM. More than 7 managers quit for a year in this region because of horrendous management and no communication. No respect for the employees at all. Loosing very good employees. No future here. I was sad when I quit after working for years with the company but it was the best thing I have ever done. Need good leaders with good experience for sure. Never got any help from DM in any store and managers won't see the DM till owner comes for a visit. of course the only one HR lady they have. She's a snake and will bite you in the ... she will act like your best friend and will make you do everything and then will flush you down when she finds a replacement. It was a traumatizing experience. I would suggest this company to at least give free yoga classes pass or some kind of mind-calming therapy passes to keep its employees sane (i am sure they cant work on company's structure or higher management:p)

Working here as a student was good - management is flexible with your schedule for the most part. You'll work a lot around the holiday season (as expected), but management motivates you to do your best. The only scheduling issue I've seen is that they expect you to slowly open your availability up to work full time hours but still only give you very limited part time hours. Another downside is that I've seen favouritism with managers & staff, so if a key holder or another sales associate is on cash, they can take your sales & there's nothing you can do about it. Then if your sales aren't high enough, management will try to put you through "extra training" because they don't believe that their "work friends" would take another persons sales. The bright side is that you're educated on the sales floor & different things they sell (i.e. hiking shoes, ruck sacks, etc.) so you can take that experience with you to another retail position. 

Working at Mountain Warehouse in Canada is a very good option, especially as a first job. It provides a supportive environment where you can gain valuable Canadian work experience and develop important skills. The training is clear and helpful, making it easier to understand store procedures, customer service standards, and product knowledge.

The team atmosphere is usually friendly and collaborative, which helps new employees feel comfortable and confident. You learn key skills such as communication, teamwork, cash handling, and inventory management — all transferable to future roles. The job can be fast-paced during busy seasons, but that helps improve time management and problem-solving abilities.

Scheduling is often flexible, which is ideal for students or newcomers adjusting to life in Canada. Overall, Mountain Warehouse is a solid starting point to build experience, strengthen your resume, and gain confidence in the Canadian workplace.

Constant price changing... physically every other day 
Constant sales changing... confusing for employees and customers.
Constant returns from online shopping. 
Incorrect pricingconstantly.within computer systems. 
Wasteful, fast fashion. 
Clothing that gets returned for slight imperfections are destroyed and go into landfills instead of repurposing, especially winter wear. 
Middle-management were hounded by upper management. Upper management doesn't understand real-time customer issues. Frustration everyday. Time consuming tasks required that are pointless. 
Generally, classic customer service in a retail environment.
