Always short staffed since pandemic hit. Low moral in the work place. Disrespect from the public and government. Many nurses are quitting or retiring and semi getting replaced with travel nurses who don’t know the routines as well as our own nurses. Management always pushes more and more paperwork on us as if we have time to do it, in return it takes us away from client care. We are run off our feet, a lot of us suffered ptsd at some point in our time there. 
Nursing in general is not a good job these days. I feel I’ve wasted a lot of time and money to become a nurse in exchange for my mental health. The public/government WILL be sorry with the nursing shortage, it’s dangerous and the public will be affected. We are the docs eyes and ears and a lot of people don’t realize that. We are the first ones to initiate CPR, we are the thorough assessors and we chart that for the doc to see. We are the true frontlines. 

Currently I am employed as a float nurse; often being used to cover sick calls or cover scope of practice for RPN's working the med-surg floor. I can be moved about the hospital several times a day depending on the acuity of the floors and RN coverage.  

One of the hardest parts of my day would be trying to keep all documentation recorded and up to date as I am shifted from one area to another. 

One of the most enjoyable parts of my day would include being able to make decisions based on my own assessments.  I am counted on for my knowledge and ability to act on my decisions and feel I can connect with the patients I interact with in a therapeutic manner.

Some co-workers, while others are toxic, sadly.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?

The new Environmental Services Manager isn't professional and is a very high-anxiety individual. Confidentiality? Forget about it.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?

Toxic and a joke, really. The EVS manager preaches endlessly (and is a former nurse), but is a real character (to put it nicely).

What is a typical day like for you at the company?

Cleaning and staying away from the toxic folks who are a cancer to be around. If they don't like you, watch out. Sadly, the manager does nothing about it.

I worked in two different departments and some areas are better than others. 
New management positions are made often and theres a revolving door of HR staff, which becomes a nightmare.
You're either left with no manager, and overbearing manager, or people passing the buck.
Materials management has no manager just a director and an employee who acts like a manager bossing people around until something has to be done that requires a manager and then you're left with "thats not my job" and left to drown. The workload is very heavy and extra efforts go unnoticed and are unappreciated. 
If you've misplaced your knife make sure to check your back because it's most likely there. 

Worked at MAHC for 30 years. It was a second home.There was a respect for the workers. 
As a nurse the days were long and often filled with constant request for your attention. Organization and skill at priority setting was a asset. Your co workers were your life line and were reliable when critical situations took priority.
Stress was enherrant in the job. Care and compassion was part of every minute of everyday.
I went to work every day wanting to be there and loving my job with the hope of going home feeling I made a difference .

What is the best part of working at the company?
Being a central contact and directing operations as necessary. Also, contact with patients.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
MANAGEMENT!! TOO many managers, sat in their ivory towers directing staff but they didnt know what they should have. A lot of management with BIG egoes!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Completely toxic! Management made up their own rules instead of following union protocol.

Very stressful working environment.  Dangerous nurse to patient ratios, with next to no support from upper mangement.  Nurses being placed in unsafe working condition where it feels impossible to provide safe care and meet our nuring standard.  I would not recommend this job to any new nurse who does not have a lot of experience.  This is not a safe learning evironment for you right now.

Muskoka Algonquin healthcare is one of the best you can work with. The education support is amazing. The managers are accessible. Every designation works well together and you can live in an outdoor paradise and meet some of the most amazing people.

Working with colleagues as they are super supportive

Nothing as it was fun working over there,  no pressure at all

Outstanding working environment and best atmosphere 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Dealing with new problems as it was fun to learn new.

I was a new nurse starting out and learned so much. I believe I am a better nurse because of only certain nurses who were willing to teach you. Other nurses would let you sink. If you didn’t fit, you really didn’t fit in and people made that quite apparent! 
I would not ever forget my time at MAHC. It has made me the nurse I am today
