NORTHERN STORE

The company was once the best place to work. They cared about all employees in every store, but in the last few years, it’s all about money.
We always cared about staff, customers and communities, but lately not so much.
You still do find some employees like this, but they need to keep their mouth shut as the big bosses in Winnipeg refuse to have people go against their rules.
Even HR is no longer there for the employee, but only sticks up for senior management, DSO and above because they are scared to lose their job.

I started as a cashier, then learned the position of the office manager. I filled in for the office manager while she went for a 2 week vacation. I learned how to do the daily reports, load money onto debit cards, pay charge accounts, cash cheques, balance tills and safe, and organize the reports. Management was great, I really enjoyed working with the store manager. The hardest part of the job, was to decide if I wanted a full time job with NorthWest Company. The District Managers asked me to stay with the company, and relocate for training and to a different community. It was a great opportunity that I didn't take.

A typical day at work included cleaning the store and stocking shelves. Along with organizing warehouses and loading and unloading trucks and airplanes. I learned the importance of customer care and attentiveness. The management at this company was very good. Very professional. The hardest part of the job was understanding the customers. They barely spoke english but i always pulled through. Also sometimes we had to deal with people under the influence coming into the store. The most enjoyable part of the job was driving to the airport and unloading the planes. It was fast paced and enjoyable.

A typical day at work lasted approximately 2 hours longer than ever anticipated. I learned that locals get special treatment no matter what, even if they are breaking the same rules as the non-locals. Management gave difficult tasks to new employees so they could sit in the office and gossip. My co-workers were miserable half the time, and crying due to stress the other half of the time. The hardest part of the job was trying to teach myself how to do everything because my supervisor was sitting in the office with my manager. This was the worst job experience I have ever encountered.

Northern Store was my first job. I have learned how to cash handling, set-up appliances like barbecue, and many more. I also learned a lot from people that I work with. The most enjoyable part of my job was when my wo-worker treat each other like a family. We always help each other either it is inside or outside our work. The hardest part was when handling an angry customer or any misunderstanding with them. It maybe hard but that's the part of the job. I just have to do what is right.

There is always something new at this store whether it be decorating the tills with teddy bears or someone stealing the stores ad flash drive, you never know whats going to happen. The manager is great and so are most of the other workers. Loved the experience.

A typical day at work would be slow, I learned some new cashier tips on groceries, the management was good they had nice managers, my co-workers were always fun to be around, the hardest part of the job would be when customers would get at me for something and I didn't know what to do, and the most enjoyable part was the air conditioning.

Typical work week can run 40 to 60 hrs 
Hardest part of the job was constant isolation, extreme cold.
Customers can be difficult to deal with because of substance abuse and social and behavioral problem.

Enjoyable part is learning new things and working with good people.

I worked at Northern Store two times already as a cashier and cook in KFC/Pizza Hut Express and the Grocery Store. My experience working there was excellent including the management where my managers treated me with respect and also very friendly. Overall, I would like to work in this company in the administrative position someday.

While working at the norther store I had fun . I learned how too properly handle produce , my trainee was awesome and a lot of help. I wish I could have stayed longer and learned more . I did it as volunteer work but wish I could have done it as an actual employed job . If I could do it all over again I would .
