NORTHERN WELDARC

The fellas in the shop were fantastic to work with, management was something else to be desired. 
1) no one in the office has any idea of what they are doing or what their job requirements are for what their positions.
2) the company blames everyone else for their shortcomings.
3) the QC manager is incompetent, has no idea if he is coming or going, he is a welding supervisor with no formal training, feels it is "ok" to send loads of steel out without proper inspections.
4) the pay was less than adequate from the job.
5) the company will take advantage of you, might even get hired for two positions... And get paid for one. 
6) no review for pay increases, they will tell you they have no money, but will continue to expect more out of you.
7) will send you to work in the field, they will provide absolutely no support, will not pay more to send you in the field, and absolutely no one from the office will set foot in the field to see how their projects are progressing.
8) they will tell you that you are being difficult if you don't do what they want you to do, even if it is wrong and goes against your ethics, everything they do is to benefit them.

This used to be a good place to work until the owners split , then it all went downhill. Used to be a union shop paying $37.85 to Journeymen, now they have ditched the union after nearly folding up and rates are down to $28. They switched from a great RRSP plan to a garbage pension plan. Work is sporadic and layoffs are guaranteed. Foremen and QC are all unqualified for their positions and simply placed due to their family relationship with the superintendent. Overtime is NOT paid near the Christmas months, instead the company forces the employees to sign a paper stating overtime hours will be banked at straight time and certain saturdays must be worked in  order to receive your stat pay over the holidays. The banked hours are paid out at straight time during the shop closure over Christmas/New Year's. Basically they will take everything they can from you and give nothing in return. The crew was great to work with however and the shop is generally very clean and organized.

A great place to work.  Union shop but management and staff work together very well.  Fairly organized.  You are given a task and then left alone to do it, at least in the west shop.  Guys are good to work with.  Owner visits the floor often but is not there to do anything but say hi to the guys and see how they are doing.  Benefits are ok, pay is upper top end.  A place that is one of the safest I have ever worked.  If it wasn't for lay offs the last 2 yrs I'd be back.  Worth waiting for a call back.

It used to be a very busy shop. 
Not sure about the current work load situation. 
2 shops are clean with a new equipment.
 There was a Bunch of nice people working there.
 I wish I could be a part of their team again however there is no job security like it used to be.

High safety standards along with quality of the product that they fabricate.

Northern Weldarc Ltd. was a great place to work as the HSE Manager, Recordable Injuries were 1 maybe 2 per year, I miss working with the welders, fitters and office staff.

Its a good company, they look after their worker and they appreciate your working attitude. Lots of overtime during busy days, the current foreman is very knowledgeable in most of the jobs or projects and very nice person too.

Busy work day, which is nice in today's economy.  Very open and honest management that you can talk to at any time. Safety culture is strong and continues to get better.  The people are great.

I was very happy working at northern weldarc.
The group of co-worker was awesome to be around with.
It was also close to my home.  I enjoy a smaller group of people working together, It made me feel like I was part of a special team.

definately not recommending this company to anyone. a waste of time. no future. no chance to advance. if you enjoy being stuck in limbo, and all the rest.  this is the place for you to work....   good luck
