Working at Nova Steel was a solid experience overall. The job was well organized, expectations were clear, and safety procedures were taken seriously. Training for the bander position was straightforward and practical, and once you learned the process, the work flowed well.

Management and supervision were generally approachable, and communication on the floor was clear compared to many industrial environments. The workplace emphasized doing the job properly rather than rushing, which made it easier to work safely and consistently. Coworkers were reliable and teamwork was encouraged, especially during busy shifts.

The work itself is physical and repetitive, which is expected for a bander role, but the environment was structured and predictable. If you show up on time, work hard, and follow procedures, you’ll do well here.

Warehouse Worker Job Duties:
Prepares orders by processing requests and supply orders; pulling materials; packing boxes; placing orders in delivery area.
Completes deliveries by driving truck or van to and from vendors.
Maintains truck or van by completing preventive maintenance requirements; arranging for repairs.
Maintains inventory controls by collecting stock location orders and printing requests.
Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
Maintains safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, pallet area, and workstations neat; maintaining clean shipping supply area; complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Completes reports by entering required information.
Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I would say the most stressful part in my position is the inline for machine repair but is the same in all companies, it goes with the position.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I enjoy the people I work with and would say in general it’s a positive environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
As for a typical day as a millwright it is repair what is broken and if nothing is broke it is pm work but never too hectic unless machine is hot and an order is needed urgently.

Something is definitely not "right" at NOVA STEEL. They are a supposed supplier to car manufacturers, but the amount of deficient product that leaves the Woodstock facility with very little or sometimes NO records kept on returned goods or NCM is definitely suspicious.  Thru the years, having been in many different industries, many in which safety wasn't quite as important with the product as it is with car parts, I know for a fact that they should be keeping/recording way more than they do.  I kept a list of manufacturers they supply to ensure I never buy a vehicle with parts from NOVA STEEL, its actually kinda scary when you think about it!

It was a great job when I started. The management and other employees were great but after I had been there for at least 6 months, things started to go downhill. The company ended up losing a major customer eventually leaving 16 employees laid off and terminating us after there was no chance of us returning in the future. The customer ended up buying from another company after no resolution could be made, even after calling in temps to double check parts before going out the door.

As the summary says, Nova steel hires and fires every year. They lay off full shifts as they are going into losses year by year. Stay away from this place if you are looking for a better future. In case this is your last option to work at, make sure you are a yes man to the Asst. GM and the vice president. The Woodstock VP is old and doesn't know what is going on in the plant. He just cares about money - employees are just a form of expenses for him. Talk to them about their favorite hockey team and you are golden.

Good pay but not worth it. I was removed because I made mistakes while performing data entry. No verbal or written communication and neither any support from someone else, I was removed within 1 month. However, when they needed to provide me with my ROE, they made mistakes in the ROE. How ironic! Someone has Just started work and you remove him for data entry while someone who would be writing ROE for so many years, he/she still keeps the job. DOUBLE STANDARDS! 

Nova is a good place to work however they are not family oriented so they do not like you taking time off for you young kids when they are sick. Hours are not flexible to be able to pick up and drop off kids more easily. Most of the people there are great to work with and good with communication.

Very unsafe work atmosphere and management just keeps turning there eyes to it. It would be nice if the company would care a little bit about their employees instead of constantly trying to discipline them for nothing. Most of the guys that work there are good people. Definitely not a place I would recommend to work ever

We are an Family. Good Organization and work Environment. Will be great for Fresh graduate Students. Little bit of Politics and game. Nice and good for relaxing Lunch area. Lot of thing on which can develop skills. Easy and clear Communication. That is it! Hopefully you will enjoy it, Once you step-in it. Good luck.
