I enjoyed my time with Nalcor. My job posed me new challenges almost every day. Typical work day started with a safety briefing, followed by a review of our work schedule and prioritizing and organizing the day. I would communicate with maintenance departments, planning department and engineering in the run of a day. I would be in contact with our Montreal representative and coordinate and plan what freight was needed and when we should ship the freight. I would dispatch employees to our remote warehouses, we had a main warehouse and 6 satellite warehouses located around the site, 
Management was very supportive, especially when it related to workplace safety. I would typically sit with my manager a couple of times a week and review our work, and goals and discuss any issues in the workplace.
We had a respectful workplace where harassment or bullying were not accepted, and any incidents that arose were dealt with in a timely manner.
The hardest part about the job was having material and parts spread over 7 locations. This was a challenge logistically and personnel wise, as dispatching people to other ares meant a service drop in our main warehouse.
The most enjoyable part of the job was the challenges it brought. Not every day was the same, it made me use my resources to the max, become innovative and use my communication skills more effectively.

Working with some great people who are very knowledgeable in their profession and expanding your learning curve from them

Working with some people who are not knowledgeable about their work and therefore compromising Plant Safety

On a scale of 1 to 10 the work environment is around 4

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Enjoyed going to work there and some positive interaction with some other employees and sometimes being negative with management employees

My job was very routine but there was always something to do. For my first work term, I developed different skills such as surveying, data collecting and valuable knowledge into the operation of a hydro plant. Additionally, I was exposed to the safety standards expected of Nalcor employees which I can carry this new mentality of safety for any future jobs. 

The work culture was excellent as co-workers were easy to work with and if I required help, there was no sense of fear in asking anyone a question, which was good for my first work term experience.

Nalcor Energy is a provincial energy corporation which is headquartered in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

My duties include processing Accounts Payable cheques, updating cashbooks, preparing bank deposits and other daily banking activities. My experience with Nalcor has given me the opportunity to excel in customer satisfaction and has allowed me to strengthen my ability to resolve issues efficiently under time sensitive situations, while maintaining a high degree of professionalism.

Work was challenging and positive. Very much team oriented and supportive towards contractors. We all worked as a team to meet schedule goals and to overcome coordination and constructibility issues.
Hardest part of the job was material delivery but that was due to the remoteness of the construction site. 
Most enjoyable part was celebrating our joint milestones and achievements.

Each day started early for me. Employed as a Rep for the Owner, each day was filled with dialogue with all contractors which I was assigned to ensure that there were no LR issues that we needed to address. At times, there were questions of jurisdiction of which Union performed what work. Grievances and the subsequent arbitrations were always interesting.

Must be comfortable working with professional engineers, accountants and lawyers. High expectations and high rewards in a working enviroment that deals with public money, high-risk electricity and power production facilities.

Always keeping you on the ball....no time for "smelling the roses".

I love doing my work term here! It was a great learning experience, job training, everyone is great there and there is always some work to do! It's a great company to work for or do your job training with. Everyone is more than wiling to help you out if you have any questions or concerns. It's just a great environment!
