The job itself is security as any other, there are good posts and horrible posts. The ports tend to have more of an extreme difference between them. Colleagues are great when/ if you get the chance to interact with them. You can easily find yourself stood in the extreme elements all day while others are inside. Management make a lot of promises that are too good to be true. No schedule, you are called in a few days in advance, no guarantee of hours- some management will tell you different, no benefits-  they were supposedly setting them up, you are asked to volunteer your time for 5 hrs a month for training, when you are hired you will be run around every few days to drop paperwork or pick something up or meet with someone for licensing etc, then you will be put into training with NPSS for a day and not paid, you will be put into orientation for the client and not paid, you basically spend a lot of time getting set up for them. Then they may not call you for weeks. I was in high hopes of this company being better than some of the less reputable companies in the city. I was wrong. If you are retired and not dependent on hours or any sort of schedule than this company may be for you. Expect to be paid at the low end of their posted pay rate. Part of the management team has a big mouth so don't expect your personal information to stay private. Uniform doesn't include pants or steel toed boot allowance. Most unprofessional company I have ever worked for.

NPSS is one of the worst security companies you can work for. They ensure nothing is ever in writing so they can't be held accountable for promises they make, full time employment opportunities are rarely ever given, everyone is casual and at anytime they can reduce your hours for no reason and give them to someone else. Doesn't matter if you've been working at the company for 5 or 20 years. There is no sick time off, they are always such short staffed that there is no vacation time (paid or otherwise). There is no proper promotions or pay raises, They expect you to take on more workload and responsibility for nothing. Bad workers get rewarded . You'll have more success and job advancements at McDonalds then you would working for this company. Getting in contacted with the mangement is impossible, Having the proper paperwork is always late by a couple of hours. Communication is non-existent.

While working at NPSS the schedule could change with minimal notice. Often you could work morning shifts and over night shifts in the same week, and sometimes a mix of days, evenings, and overnights. 

Payroll is managed poorly. It was a regular occurrence for others and myself to have to fight to get paid what we worked, regardless if we had accurately reported out hours for the week. 

Most of us completed a security guard course offered internally at Npss. We didn’t realize we were volunteering our time until after we were half
Way through the training and we’re told we weren’t getting paid. We were also  told we completed this course, but only a few actually took the test.

 This company will get your hopes up and promise you hours and never follow through. They hope you don't know the laws around labour and will try to exploit you, i.e. not paying proper overtime or holiday pay. They care more about saving face than protecting the sites they're contracted to provide security for, if they can even provide security due to how short-staffed they are. There are no benefits, no guaranteed hours, no paid time off, no sick time, nothing a respectable company would guarantee their workers. This company is also based in Ontario, if that wasn't bad enough. Management expects workers to do their jobs for them, for abhorrent pay which is barely above minimum wage at this time. Do not waste your time with NPSS.

This company will run you dry and pay you the bare minimum. They do not provide their guards with benefits, and will consider guards that work 40+ hours a week casual. They hire mass quantities of guards, and only give each of them 16 hours a week after promising full time. The whole organization is disorganized, from scheduling to pay. There is no human resources department, so if you have an issue you have no one to escalate it to.Don't trust anything this place tells you, as they are known to provide a false sense of security, then cut your hours, and on occassion not even disclose what your rate of pay is(even after multiple inquires). Be aware.

They’ll ask for you to do more than what your supposed to and at that rate of pay it’s not worth it.  Oshawa harbour is way below regulation for security and procedures I spent more time writing on paper than using a computer.  They expect you to stand between trucks entering the dock and exiting it’s unsafe work do not work for this company!   They take advantage of hard workers

I’m treated like garbage every single day, schedules are slapped together haphazardly and changed at the last minute without any notification. Barely anything in properly conveyed through training to even what happens on a day to day basis. Most of the time you have to fight to even get properly paid for the hours you are owed and you should “be grateful” for what you’re given 

Working for NPSS was one of the most satisfying positions I've known. I enjoyed the people I worked with and the work environment.  At contact time they tried hard but sometimes it just doesn't work out.

A great company in which the owner and operation manager are great. The support staff and account have no idea what they are doing. Owner and operations need to clean house to be more successful. People not getting paid properly or not at all at times. 

I did Municipal Bylaw Enforcement for this Company. A typical day would be enforcing laws against unsightly premise, noise complaints, serving legal documents, issuing tickets. I had great workers to work with and a very kind and understanding boss,
