National Yacht Club

My first job was a food runner as the yacht club. I helped the server delivered the food to guests and cleaned the table later. After one month, I was promoted  to server position.  I took the order in the dining room in regular day service and as the bartender every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night. I also worked as the banquet server when the club had the events. In summer time, they always had the race every Tuesday, Wednesday and  Thursday. After the race, people would come up the restaurant and had their orders. At that time, hundreds of people showed up and they wanted their orders served right away. My hardest  part was how to delivery drinks to them on time and correctly with over hundred orders at same time. I learnt and improved my experience a lot . Later, I looked at the name of the order, I already knew what did they have and how would they liked for their drink orders. My favourites was working on the events. I did setting the floor and table for events, checking everything to make sure they were ready before each event. It was very hard, but I could feel how I had growing in my serving and handling multi task experience. Moreover, I played a role as food and beverage manager assistant in a part of catering

It was very hard, but I could feel how I had growing in my serving and handling multi task experience. Moreover, I played a role as food and beverage manager assistant as part of catering.

The initial promise of comprehensive training for individuals without prior experience did not align with the reality I faced. The "training" is a brief shadowing session and the lack of proper training had a detrimental effect on my ability to meet the restaurant's expectations. 

The unpleasant work environment was far from ideal - one concerning aspect of my time there was the unprofessional conduct displayed by some supervisors. Gossip and derogatory remarks about other coworkers were prevalent, often targeting personal issues that were beyond their control. 

They have no problem firing people without any notice or explanation. Although I encountered a few good coworkers and received good money in tips, the overall lack of support, unprofessional behavior from supervisors, and insufficient training overshadowed any positive aspects of my experience.

The National Yacht Club is a great place to work with friendly staff and amazing customers. As a members only club, the service staff get to build personal relationships with each of the members who come in to dine which makes the work day fly by. Not only are the servers and dining supervisors easy to work with and happy to help each other, but the kitchen staff is more that happy to assist front of house wherever they can! The NYC hosts banquets, parties, events, and much more which keeps your day to day interesting with set up, take down, and a variety of different service settings. Aside from the work environment, the hours during peak season are incredible and well worth your time. Even in the winter season management is great to accommodate their part time workers with hours here and there. 

I loved working at the NYC and often miss it. The best part of the job was the people I got to work with - including staff and club members. It is a beautiful location that offers free parking (a huge benefit in Toronto). 
The food and presentation was always top tier and the restaurant was organized. We would host a variety of events to keep up with member engagement and they loved it!
This is a great place to work whether you're a novice or experienced. It is a fast paced environment where you can make amazing tips and learn how to multi-task.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Can get busy but that’s every restaurant. It’s manageable with a good team.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good work environment. Everybody is very positive.

Flexible shift and a fun work environment. It gets quite busy in the summer as the members take their yacht out for sailing. Work environment is nice and but the wage is below average. The customers are regular members.

Pros: staff and management, flexible schedule, fun atmosphere.

Cons: wage is not very good, winter is quite slow.

The toxic environment is due to the immaturity of the dining room supervisor. I was expected to perform highly while the supervisor refused to provide me with training. 
However, the actual management was good and responsive to employees' needs. 

The National Yacht club is a prestigious company tailoring to yacht owners in down town Toronto. The company is well managed and clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my work at the NYC

I learned how to work as a part of a team and developed my interpersonal skills. The most enjoyable part of my job was the team I got to work with and immersing myself in a foreign workplace.
