When I started I found this organization very enjoyable! The best part was working directly with the kids. However, there is a LOT of shortcomings with the management, which only worsened after a change in managers. The current vision for my worksite seems like it's completely directionless. Rules and protocols seems to change with management's mood, which frustrates the youth we work with- and we can't do much aside from 'it is what it is' at this point. Also SEVERELY understaffed! Haven't had a day off in a long time.
It also seems to be moving away from it's indigenous-based values, which made the workplace seem a lot more from the heart, but now it's getting more and more of a sterilized corporate feel, which even the youth are noticing. Referring to this place as it's like a 'prison' and saying they're feeling less and less supported with the chaos the mismanagement is causing. Also, discerning what coworkers are 'safe' and which are gossip-y eavesdroppers that will report you over nothing is difficult. 
Lastly, there is some security cameras that also record sound in the facilities. They aren't used for their intended purpose all the time (security purposes) but more-so for eavesdropping from management. Often they will have oddly on-the-note comments about things that were discussed in private. Just a concern to be aware of.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of working there was dealing with ineffective and unprofessional management, where interactions often focused on negative feedback or correction rather than support or guidance. HR interactions also felt intimidating rather than helpful when concerns were raised. There appeared to be favoritism in hiring practices, including hiring of family members and personal connections, which affected staff morale and trust in leadership

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment was often tense and high-pressure, with limited positive feedback from management. Interactions frequently focused on correction rather than support, and there were concerns about consistency and fairness in leadership decisions, which affected overall morale.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day involved supporting youth in a structured setting, managing daily routines, and responding to challenges as they arose. The pace was often fast, with limited time for downtime between responsibilities

This place is extremely unprofessional due to the management being immature and rude to staff. There is often drama and lateral violence which is perpetuated by managers. The turnover rate is insane and they struggle to find new staff which results in current staff being overloaded and expected to overcompensate for their lack of foresight. There are many safety concerns in working in their sites which are never handled properly and you will be expected to work alone or with just one other employee. They are purposely sabotaging the union because they do not want to be held accountable for anything they do wrong. 

At first it was a good place to work. It was apparent the youth were well looked after. My only problem here was the lack of communication from the management team. Each week rules would change and staff, especially the part time staff would not be notified. As new management came on, it felt more like a competition to be liked here rather than work. Some gossip that occurs. Also be aware, if you get hired for the night shift you will be a cleaner. No structure within the company and they expect you to cover your own shifts although most people will not take the shifts. 

Loved working with the youth, but management didn’t care about you, overworked you when given the chance, didn’t listen to safety requests, no room for growth, and they say it is in their policy to not give out job references even after 1 year of working there. Working conditions in the north end are bad enough, so you don’t need your employer making it worse for you. There’s no point in working for Ndinawe other than being able to care for the youth. 

Little consideration of safety of workers and participants at some locations of this company. The shifts are 12 hours and they don’t pay overtime, also underpay the support workers for the amount of time and commitment they expect you to bring to the position. Overall care and attitude towards youth is often times hostile and doesn’t come from a trauma informed perspective. Management is unresponsive to feedback from community and workers. 

 This organization lacks staff support and communication. Hostility from coworkers creates an unsafe work environment. Lots of gossip. Huge turnover. Zero training. Some staff shouldn’t be working here at all. Doing your best isn’t worth it and it’s a weakness according to upper management. No appreciation. You will have zero support here and you can’t trust anyone. People will turn a switch on you by your next shift. 

Every day night staff must call and place youth as a missing person with the Winnipeg Police or cancel there missing person, staff are responsible for ensuring the safety of 16 youth ages 11-17 in and out of CFS care. Staff are responsible for filling out appropriate paperwork and incident reports. Staff also diffuse tense situations between youth. Staff also try to maintain a safe environment for all youth and staff no matter the backgrounds of the youth.

Management is hard to get a hold of, and they don't seem to ever have an answer for any questions. There is no staff support by management and it's a free for all with the youth. Which creates an unsafe environment for staff. 
There also is a lot of drama between staff, and lots of gossip between staff. Very hard to work as a team when you can't trust your co-workers.

Being able to connect and guide youth

Management, lack of union, (very scary word for them), work life balance, work atmosphere, work pressure, schedule, lack of safety procedures. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Isolated. Group bonding activities would be beneficial.
