If you're considering working at Neo, be prepared for a leadership style that is completely domineering and hands-off. The head of my department was almost nonexistent, and their lack of structure or guidance made me question their actual role beyond attending "important" meetings and hiring. There was very little structure or leadership provided by them, and they remarkably had zero impact on the day-to-day of the team. It was as if they were only there to lend their title to the company hierarchy. The team operates with a "fend for yourself" mentality, where voicing concerns or proposing new ideas is met with little to no support. Instead of an empathetic response and an earnest desire to help, people will tell you to do things yourself, with little to no support from them. The company's culture is not conducive to open communication and teamwork, as employees are often left to work on their own without guidance or support. This can lead to a lack of cohesion and direction, which ultimately affects the quality of work produced. Salaries at Neo are much lower than comparable roles, as the compensation package includes equity options that are often given out unequally. Through talking with colleagues, I learned how little options some people have received in comparison to some of the managers and early hires, especially some people who have already left the company. The mind game of being told to work hard because "it will all pay off" by people who stand to earn far more in equity than you ever will is frustrating and demotivating. Professional development and annual reviews are not prioritized at Neo, and there is no clear professional development plan or structure for personal growth within the organization. Annual reviews are not scheduled, and even if you do, salary raises are often denied, citing the company's startup status. This is despite actively hiring more and more people and bloating the team. Neo has also been laying off employees and restructuring departments without acknowledging the changes. This can create a sense of uncertainty and instability in the workplace. It also suggests that the company may not have a clear vision or strategy for its future. The lack of transparency and communication from leadership about these changes can be frustrating and demoralizing for employees. The company's policies are outdated, such as requiring employees to bring their own devices and enforcing an "in-office" culture despite having remote colleagues. The office facilities are uncomfortable, and employees are expected to work long hours without adequate work-life balance. Leadership has even encouraged employees to prioritize work over their families, which can be a deal-breaker for some people. Overall, working at Neo can be a challenging and frustrating experience. The lack of structure, leadership, and support can make it difficult to grow and thrive in your role. The company's policies and culture can also be outdated and demotivating. If you're considering working at Neo, be prepared for a potentially rocky ride.

Neo’s premise is revolutionary! I joined at entry level to be able to be part of something truly innovative. 

The reality is the complete opposite! The company is incredibly poorly run, with major flaws at every level. There are no proper processes in place, and communication is virtually nonexistent—whether within teams or between departments. You are looped around in circles or completely ignored about logical and straightforward questions because no one has the answers. It takes 2-5 business days for an answer that should be instant. They talk a lot about wanting employees to take ownership, while they take none. 

The processes they do have are punitive in nature, penalizing employees who don’t have the information or support they need to perform at their best. They hire some great employees, particularly those who are new to the country, that hold on for dear life at Neo because they are not in a position to be able to speak up. Neo completely misses the mark on the "human" aspect of Human Resources in every way. The managers lack the basic skills to lead effectively. As ONE small example, they openly talk about why previous employees left or were let go! Yikes. 

They don’t make any effort to fix these issues. Instead, they mask them behind the “startup” label and use that heavily as an excuse for everything. You’ll hear employees use that often as well since that’s what they’ve been fed - “… but we have to understand because we are a start up”. No! That is not true! I’ve worked for successful startups before, and their strength came from strong internal operations and leadership - despite the dynamic nature of a start up - both of which Neo is severely lacking. 

I wouldn’t even recommend this as an entry-level job; you’ll likely end up having to unlearn things that you pick up here. 

I hope that Neo changes things around internally, at least for the employees that stick it out. 

TLDR: Promising concept, but total chaos. They use the “startup” excuse to cover up their inability to execute processes effectively, their poor management and lack of regard for employees. It’s a complete mess. 


It is a good opportunity to kick off your career working with Neo. Now, it is a call centre where you are answering and resolving customer issues EVERY DAY. It is an entry level with minimum to no experience. The reason why I say that is because if you have experience, expertise and knowledge, I suggest going directly to financial institutions with banking license. Starting pay is $35000k/annually. Olympia financial offers $44,100/annually, RBC offers around $45,000. (I have met with hiring managers that have verified the salary during my interviews). Not very competitive in the marketplace in the marketplace if you as me considering inflation. I understand a lot of people looking to grow within the company which is one of the common factors why people consider Neo. You could take a stab at it, but evaluate your skills of being good at office politics . And with my first hand experience there's a lot of politics. Eg. There are multiple accounts when a entry level specialist was promoted as a team lead at a different department which is a step higher, but that individual has NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE with their new department. There are structure in place before being promoted but this occurred simply because that person was close to their manager. As a result, there are people in leadership role who lack in leaderships qualities, effective communications, and qualifications to effectively lead. There are occurrences where a couple of people that I worked with that was promoted to a higher role at a different department that required more responsibility and skills, but they weren't provided with a pay increase as the management's excuse was "it falls under the same umbrella".

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Work culture is the worst, management does not care for its staff.  Always working on hiring firing policy. Zero development and only work politics. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment at this company is highly stressful and often feels toxic. There is a noticeable lack of support from management, and employees are frequently expected to handle repetitive, high-pressure tasks without meaningful recognition or appreciation for their efforts.
Career growth and development opportunities are extremely limited, making it difficult to build skills or advance within the organization. Much of the work feels monotonous, with little room for creativity or professional progression.
Additionally, internal politics tend to influence decisions more than performance or merit, which can be discouraging and demotivating. Overall, the culture does not foster a positive or collaborative atmosphere, and it can be challenging to maintain morale in such an environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day involves supporting the team in achieving sales targets while ensuring the store operates efficiently and remains profitable. This includes assisting with customer interactions, guiding team members on sales strategies, monitoring performance metrics, and maintaining high standards of customer service.
I also focus on optimizing daily operations, managing priorities in a fast-paced environment, and contributing to overall business growth by driving revenue and team performance.

As a current employee at Neo, I feel it's important to provide an honest review of the company's culture. While Neo appears impressive on the surface, it has significant issues that need to be addressed. The company's founders tend to hire and promote individuals who can be used as scapegoats for their poor decisions instead of taking accountability for their actions. This has resulted in a severe lack of accountability and control over employees, leading to a high turnover rate. Decision-making roles at Neo are often given to individuals who come from a lower-level position at another company or have worked at Skip the Dishes, and salary negotiation is limited. There's only sideways mobility here, and upward career progression is limited. While equity is offered in lieu of salary increases, equity dilutes, and it's becoming more and more watered down. Additionally, the pay at Neo is very low, and there's a lack of equality. The burn-and-turn culture at Neo is well-known in the community and documented by competitors, making it challenging to stay at the company for more than six months to a year. Remote work is not an option, and employees must bring their own devices to work with the requirement to install invasive antivirus software. In conclusion, as a current employee, I would not recommend Neo as a place to work due to the lack of accountability, poor compensation, and invasive work policies.

Great experience for the resume if you want to break into the industry, but it's very much a "work hard, play later" mentality. Many employees felt overworked. 

Some cons that really stood out to me include: 
- WFH was not allowed, but managers would often break this rule when it benefit them
- Meetings were mandatory to attend on my days off. If I couldn't show up, I was questioned for it (god forbid I have a life outside of work)
- Managers would frequently call me on my days off for questions they or the team might have
- Pay was BRUTAL. Way below industry standard
- OT was expected, and unpaid
- Despite being relatively new to the company, managers and team leads constantly leaned on me to train new employees on top of my already heavy workload. In verbatim, my team lead did not trust certain senior employees to train the new hires correctly. Despite this, management refused promote or acknowledge they additional work I was putting in. This was ultimately my final straw.
- There was a seriously weird praise for the CEO. In one instance, there was a corporate party in which employees were lining up for a photo in which they were holding a magazine with the CEO's portrait on the front cover

Unfortunately, this was my first ever corporate work experience, and to say the least, it was hectic. Stepping into my next corporate position was such a breath of fresh air

My experience working at a Neo kiosk was extremely disappointing. You're expected to approach a high volume of people in a very aggressive, sales-heavy environment, which felt uncomfortable and borderline invasive. I only worked for two days but observed several concerning issues: unprofessional conduct from some managers, unrealistic expectations (being told to engage with 600 people per hour), and pressure to hit the same sales targets as long-term employees, even with no experience.
The environment lacked the professionalism and integrity I value. For instance, one manager made inappropriate comments about people passing by, and another fabricated a story about my background to gain a customer's trust—without my knowledge or consent. That was a major red flag.
I tried to give it an honest shot, but I quickly realized this role wasn’t suited for someone like me who values honest communication and respectful boundaries. The job may suit individuals who are very extroverted and comfortable with high-pressure tactics, but for me, it felt misaligned with my personal values. I ultimately chose to leave the position and would not recommend it to those looking for a respectful, ethical sales environment.

So a typical day at work looks like you are receiving calls one after another and have only 3 minutes to submit all the necessary after-call info, after that you have a new call. You will be highly micromanaged and told you had many washroom breaks in front of your coworkers. Typically you don't have time to reach the managers or submit a training during your work as you are supposed to take calls. So all the work-related issues ( submitting documents, training or trying to swap your shift) you need to do after. This is a busy time of the year and team leads are asking each rep individually to take overtime almost every day. 
Schedules are the main problem here, as you have the best schedule from 8-4:30 with Saturday and Sunday free and after a few weeks, you are receiving a messed up schedule you don't have control over with 6 working days in a row and 2 free days during the workweek. This is very mentally draining and feels unstable when you don't have any work routine, you don't even have your own desk:( as a full-timer.

I’d give my experience at Neo Financial three stars because it really felt like a mix of highs and lows. On one hand, I worked with a lot of smart, motivated people and got exposure to the fintech space, which was genuinely interesting. The pace was fast, and I learned a lot in a short amount of time, especially early on.
That said, my experience lined up with many of the concerns I’ve seen echoed online. There was a noticeable lack of stability, with frequent changes in direction, reorganizations, and shifting priorities that made it hard to feel grounded in my role. Workload expectations were high, and over time it started to affect my work-life balance. Communication wasn’t always clear or consistent, particularly during times of change, which led to uncertainty and frustration. I also felt that career growth and job security weren’t always well defined, making it difficult to see a long-term future there.
Overall, Neo Financial was a decent place to gain experience and move quickly, but the constant change and pressure made it hard to sustain long term. It’s a better fit for people who thrive in uncertainty than those looking for stability.

You're hired as a contractor, but treated as an employee in every sense. When you look at the ministry of labour website, based on their guide, we should be employees. 

Manager crosses the line too far, constantly calling after work hours, retaliating against you for "not performing" with harrassment, literally call after call and text after text. Not very constructive.  Despite not receiving any training, you are expected to learn yourself due to the way they structure things. You have to draw a very strict line to protect yourself. The job itself felt very predatory and on multiple occasions, my my lead or other supervisor/colleagues would engage in very unethical behaviour such as signing up old people when they didn't understand it very well, or straight up lying to a customer and doing what benefits them, not the customer. 

Don't expect full time hours, expect part time hours at most. Nobody got full time hours except for one mall lead. Misrepresented job listing and misleading. 

Overall, not a place you want to stay and grow. For short term employment at most.
