What is the best part of working at the company?
Fun atmosphere and found management and colleagues supportive and understanding. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Constantly short-staffed, high expectations of staff to take shifts, schedule can suck (always closing, always weekends).

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The Nesters I worked at was in resort town so there was high staff turnover and little chance of getting on full-time and receiving health benefits. Takes head office a million years to do anything. Some managers have been there years and years and are toxic with no chance of them ever needing to do better. Lots of favouritism and leniency toward certain staff and not others. Otherwise, easy enough to get shifts, work as much as you want in high season, small staff discount and extra points, enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and friendly colleagues.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would come in and set up if opening or see where the team was at if coming later on. There are task lists and lots of things to check off so it's easy to know what to do. At times it can be very busy with customers, like with Christmas or other big family dinner and entertaining holidays like Christmas and Superbowl, etc. Other times it can be painfully slow and you are expected to stay busy and do extra work, cleaning, the usual stuff. Most of the time, we got out on time, however after busy shifts where we were short staffed, it could be brutal having to stay late to finish everything and end up missing the last bus home, etc.

The shifts can become monotonous. A typical shift starts with filling dairy, sweeping the aisles, filling eggs, and gathering grocery carts left int he parking lot and around the building. The rest of the days are usually spent facing, moving stock from back stock or ends to the shelves, and following potential shoplifters. Benefits are only available for full time employees who continue to work 32 or more hours a week but these benefits also cost $100 each pay cheque. Trying to get time off can be difficulty as there are very few staff members in each department already (except bakery/deli). Several members of management seem to only be there to earn enough money to retire and will frequently leave before their time is up, take extra vacation days not listed on the schedule, and they do not appreciate any criticism. If you can get your foot in the door, it can be a fairly steady job during summer months. the rest of the year, if you're not full-time, expect to have your hours suddenly cut one week to 8 or 12 hours then jump back up to 32 or more the following. It can be all over the place and schedules are only made with one weeks notice so it can be difficult to plan any appointments, classes, or visits from family.

I worked produce for Nesters Market for 2 years.  A typical day is making sure all produce is looking top notch.  Culling is a daily must.  Temperature checks, daily cleaning and sanitizing. Answering customer questions in person or over the phone.  Monthly inventory is done with produce manager.  Shipments are received and it's your job to verify all orders and practice FIFO (first in first out).

In terms of Management, it can be hit or miss.  What I mean is some are really good and productive, others are just lazy and want you to do your work and most of theirs.  Same goes for VIP management.

In terms of work life balance this one is tricky.  Nesters is really good at working around your schedule if your a part time student.  However if your full time and you have kids this is going to be hard on you.  Be prepared for rotating shifts meaning you could close for 9:30 pm and then have to come back for 6am.

These rotating shifts were the hardest part of the job for me.

The most enjoyable part was learning something new all the time and my co-workers.

Tipical day would be delivering 110% Customer Service to any customer with in the store. Visual merchandising, stoking and facing product, along with checking dates for heath consummations. 
I gained lots of knowledge of products, how to properly connect with customers, and fulfill their request. Also time management. 
Management is always busy, working to fulfill us as a teams needs, but may have to ask once or twice, for reminders.
Co-workers are absolutely the best part that makes up for the whole company, enthusiastic, fun, family.
Hardest part of my job was to tell customers we currently dont have your product you want, because being part of Nesters you want to have everything for everyone.
Most enjoyable part of my job, is the seeing the smiles on our customers faces, and just getting to know the community well, and learn new things about them.

Nesters Market is a great place to gain your first work experience. As a starter job, it offers a supportive environment where new employees can learn the basics of customer service, teamwork, and responsibility. The management is generally approachable and willing to train those who are just entering the workforce. Tasks are straightforward, and the pace helps build time management and multitasking skills. Whether you're stocking shelves, working as a cashier, or helping customers, there's always an opportunity to learn something new. The team environment is friendly, which makes it easier to feel comfortable and grow in confidence. While the pay may not be the highest, the experience you gain here is valuable, especially if you're still in school or looking to build a resume. Overall, Nesters Market is a solid stepping stone for anyone starting out in the job market.

As a cashier a typical day was memorizing codes to various products of food as we ring them through the till, and greeting\assisting customers. handling various payments of cash, interact, and credit. At the end of the day we would take our till to the office and count the receipts and cash in our till. 
If other departments needed help I was to gladly step in and help. I helped mostly in grocery, stalking shelves.
Management and co-workers were all very friendly and all of us worked together as a team to make a great workplace. 
the hardest part of the job was memorizing all the codes to all the food products.

My coworkers were always the reason I enjoyed working for NESTERS and they were very helpful if I had any questions.

I was never stressed when working there.

The work environment is very good and I met some very interesting people from different cultures. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stocking the shelves and chatting with coworkers about work and life at home.   I enjoyed working with everyone.

This company does care about their employees. They expect everything to be full and in best shape even though they cut hours, pay their employees poorly, don’t give raises to longtime workers. So they basically want you to skip your breaks to do everything and even then it’s not enough. Upper management gets away with treating employees horribly, nothing is done about that. Pay is bad, head office is horrible, expectations are very demanding with little to no benefits. The only redeeming quality is the coworkers who are in the same boat as you 

Nesters Market and Pharmacy was a wonderful place to work. I was a baker. I learned how to bake and package the baked goods. I signed for incoming stock and refilled the cooler and freezer. I restocked and organized shelves with baked goods. I learned better customer service skills. It was a positive workplace, as I worked with very nice people that are willing to help me better my learning in the work place so I could work more efficiently. The breakout was probably the worst part of the job because it had to be done at the end of the night. But that was fine because it's such a great place to work.

The good managers get transferred out. If you are the newer hire or a part-timer, rules that apply to you do not apply to the more senior employees and assistant-managers and are given more work similar to a full-time employee. Breaks are too short and not enough of them.
Low pay. Having to clock out in all paid breaks, including lunch which is unpaid.
Only work here if you are desperate for any sort of income and are able to put up with certain.
Most enjoyable part about the job is assisting customers in finding the product they are wanting to purchase.
