Pays well and on time (but you might check your hours especially if you have worked overtime or class one jobs when scheduled as class three)

Overall the job itself is ok, easy but hard on your body. Packer routine has zero ergonomics and it will ruin your back, especially some specific lines that require constant bending. Operating or as general in lines is better but you gotta have luck to start there.

Although some employees that are rude and condescending (especially the seniors), the majority of coworkers and lead hands are amazing people and great to work with. The major issue which is pretty much responsible for the insane amount of turnover is the HR, specifically, the schedulers.

You are expected to be 24/7 available, but you only get your schedule one week before (literally Friday, to start working Monday, sometimes Sunday nights) and they will toss you around and you have to deal with the juggling to accommodate your personal life. As seasonal or on probation you don’t get any sick days too. It doesn’t matter how long you’re working there, they can and will put you through a lot of stress with the scheduling (and are supported by the union on that, because “it’s on your contract that you have to be available”)

Mandatory overtime on weekends is constant and you only know if you’re working that weekend on Monday (but more than once I was told on Thursday that I would have to come on Saturday). Sunday pays double, which is nice when you actually get to work on Sundays. (But honestly after working 6 days a week you don’t care if they pay double you just wanna sleep)

If you start as seasonal and get full time, expect to get your seniority erased and wait another five months for your benefits (aka 90 “worked days”).

You do get trained in different places but never get to actually work there which makes it insanely difficult to keep track of all procedures when you’re once in a lifetime in that spot. Even when you get assigned (which can take up to 2 years, maybe more) you are scheduled different shifts and different jobs, sometimes even more than one time a week (worked nights and afternoons in the same week more than once).  HR (and managers too) play favourites, especially if you have someone on your family working there. 

Overall, it’s the job for single people who don’t care about life-work balance at all.

The work itself is fine, easy, a little strenuous on the back more times then not as a lot of the positions require you to be hunched or looking down for long periods of time. Fair pay except you have to work there for 1 year to get the pay advancements. So when they train you to do harder jobs, you will not get the pay increase which is usually $3+ more an hour but you are expected to do those jobs at the base rate until you've passed 1 year. Horrible management/team. A lot of bullying from workers and management that just gets pushed under the rug and not properly followed through or investigated. Mandatory overtime every Saturday plus they will make you feel bad for not taking over time during the week often leading to 60 hour work weeks. Maybe if they fixed the equipment properly instead of slapping band aids they would be able to produce more. That was the only good thing, lots of down time standing around because the lines go down so often. If they worked on the environment they created and got rid of the nasty people this would be such an easy and great place to work.

At Nestle Health Science in Canada  after 2012 - the leadership changed.  With the change in management the typical work day expectation is that employees operate in crisis management mode.  Simple issues are blown out of proportion such that it is a crisis. Everyday is a new crisis.

The leadership team is too involved in the details and micromanages - hence employees operate in fear and not to their potential. There is absolutely NO work-Life balance.  Most employees are in meetings all days and tackling emails and projects at night on personal time. This burns people out.

Nestle Health Science preaches about a great place to work - there is no trust among co-workers as people are afraid of losing their jobs.  At meetings you can be expected to be thrown under the bus and no one will rescue you - not even your manager.

Its not an environment conducive to productivity.

Most of the technical jobs are off-shored. So what you learn here is over the top. Most of the time, you will manage people, work with the business or manage the process. Most of the methods are lean initiative and agile-focused. Every 3 ~ 5 years, Nestle keeps changing their North American IT hub. An interesting fact is Nestle produces goods for consumption in North America. If most of their labour force is from offshore, how will they understand what business needs or how it runs in North America? Zero business intimacy. Nestle used to be a good company but now you are a number to be replaced by another. This company is only focused on becoming lean and earning profits today, which means more job cuts and offshoring the work to 3rd party.

Nestle has been a pretty chill workplace overall; some days are better or worse depending on how the machinery is working, and what job you're working that day; but rarely have I not had support of some kind (Though the supervisors can be flaky at times the lead hands are very quick to help when possible).

The shifts can be annoying as you only know your shift for next week on the Thursday before, and when you're a more junior employee you often get moved around shifts a fair bit depending on where the company needs you.

The pay is pretty good considering they don't expect anyone to have any sort of previous factory experience. I can't speak to the on-boarding process too much as I joined at the height of COVID and we had a different process at that time. 

Employees are friendly and very social. Job requires a lot of out of the box thinking, team work and analytical skills. Developed more experience in problem solving, being a team player, being more patient and uderstanding when managing people while still being able to get the work done effectively.

Working in Nestle gave me the opportunity to worked in Engineering, Technical Store Room Management, productions, and projects, factory utilities operation and maintenance system, continuous improvement team member, SAP PM Super User, etc.. The only reason why I left Nestle is my retirement in Dec 2017 but I feel I´m still strong to continue work in a company who needs me even if it´s a part time job.

A typical day involved operating production lines, inspecting products, and working with a team to keep the process running smoothly. I learned how to work efficiently under time pressure while following strict safety and quality standards. Management was organized and clear with expectations, and supervisors were approachable. The workplace culture was team-oriented, with everyone helping each other to stay on track. The hardest part of the job was the physical demands of long shifts, but the most enjoyable part was the sense of accomplishment at the end of a productive day and connecting with coworkers.

You are not considered an employee when you're a contractor, but expected to perform the work of 5 "employees ". There are full time employees that come in late, call off constantly, and play on their phones all day long. As a contractor you kill yourself to try to get a permanent position, and don't even get paid for holidays and God forbid you get sick.... You better suck it up and work sick if you want a paycheck.

The culture at Nestle is very welcoming and collaborative.  I have been at the company for quite some time, and every team is helpful, supportive and shares in your goal for success.  It really is Nestle Nice.  The big challenge is salaries & annual increases.  2.5% just doesn't allow you to keep up with inflation.  It is not a company where you can earn a lot of money.  I would have wanted to stay here, but just can't given how low the annual increases are.  A large global organization should really get this figured out.  They will loose good talent.
