On the job at about 6:30a to get ready to start at 7a present the crew with an overall daily setup, go to the shop and pickup needed equipment and head out to the worksite, then depending on the job, we would put up staging and forms and rebar for concrete, or set up coffer dams to hold back water so we can work inside pipes to clean and chip out material, then refinish with shot-put or forms to refinish the inside. It is hard to describe just one day as every day has so many variables, depending upon the job.
For the most part, I along with my crew try to set up each day to be the most productive that we could insure each and every day, didn't always work out but we always got our projects done on or before the scheduled date, and under budget better than 90% of the time.
I had a great main crew, we worked well together, we didn't run by the clock ;i.e. break at 10a or lunch at 12p etc. if something was needed, then meals were adjusted accordingly, and they had input about how thing got done, it they had an idea to save time and money we gave it a go, they were every bit as important as myself.

Typical day at work for me on chip seal crew 7 am to 8 or 9 pm sometimes more. learn lots about chip seal became assistant supervisor work lots with management enjoy working with the crew. the hardest part of the job was the hours,and the enjoyable part was my co-worker. Winter job was about plowing snow lots of long hrs and driving in treacherous condition, maintenance on the equipment when not plowing,  example,clean equipment after storm pre-trip  report problem with supervisor, had to do small maintenance like change oil replace burnt out light bulbs change blades on plow and wing. when equipment ready for next storm work on road maintenance,

A typical day of work was showing up on time, having a little talk with co-workers and doing my job as required on a daily basis.
I learned to work well with other employees.
Got along well with Management and co-workers.
I really never found any part of the job hard.
Seeing what I could accomplish on a daily basis.

Busy every day, always work to do. Learned about plow trucks and road graders while employed at DOT.A great bunch of co-workers who work together as a team.Equipment breakdowns in the winter requiring field repairs was the hardest part of the job.The most enjoyable part of the job was the feeling of responsibility in performing repairs on heavy equipment.

3 different summers essentially provided 3 different work environments. First summer was all land surveying with total stations. Second summer was similar, but in a different location and with more bridge surveying. Third summer was toward the end of the project life and again mostly in a different location.

Good experience for civil engineering students looking for summer work during their undergraduate degree. Exposure to different aspects of the civil engineering field. Mentoring from industry professionals.

I flagged the traffic. Put up road signs in the morning and took them down at night. It was my first job out of High School but only a temporary one through an employment agency.

Summer Maintenance: Everyday repairs to roadways, 40 hour week.

Winter Maintenance: Supervise a crew of 10, in charge of overseeing plowing, salting, sanding operations. Working hours can be up to 100 hours per week.

Always working hard to keep clients needs' met.  Opportunity for training in safety and security as well as first aid.
Good team.

Over the years it was a very good place to work with all different Departments and Contractors on many types of jobs.it was a place that you had to wear many different hats .

The most enjoyable part was meeting your deadlines .
