New Canadian Medical Transfer

This job comes with many positives and negatives. Personally, I worked for NCMT in order to gain experience required for a paramedic career. It provided me with exactly what I was looking for in those regards. I gained plenty of lifting, transferring, driving and patient bedside manners required for my career. 

NCMT is an extremely small company. This is reflected in its staff. At approximately 15 employees, you became very personal with both management and your colleagues. This creates a family environment that I was quite fond of. Families, however, sometimes have drama. 

Management offers flexible scheduling, however inconsistent lengths of days. For example: you know what days you work, however you are never guaranteed a time that you will be done for that given day. This makes having a social life or family quite difficult. Be prepared for that. 

The job itself is not overly difficult. You are required to lift heavy and safely. You are also required to provide care and compassion to patients and their families on some of their worst days. Be prepared to be in emotional situations. If you have the ability to adapt efficiently to difficult situations and can think well on your feet, this will come in handy. 

There’s plenty about the job that I could complain about, but every job has issues. Toni does the best he can with what he’s given, and overall is a good person. Of course improvements could be made.

NCMT is a smaller non-urgent transportation company. A typical day is usually full of back-to-back calls. This job (as with any company) requires a LOT of heavy lifting, but NCMT tends to get the heavier workload in comparison to some other companies in the region. I learned about my rights as an employee and how to problem solve quickly working for this company. The management isn't five star and I'll leave it at that. The culture of NCMT is very much "we've got each other's back" between most coworkers. The hardest part of this job would be the inconsistency of scheduling. It's impossible to plan a life around this job if you're working full time. Would not recommend for students while in school. The best part of the job is that because of the smaller staff list, you build deeper relationships with coworkers, partners you can trust.

NCMT is an excellent company to work for, especially as an introduction to the healthcare field. There is ample opportunity to interact with patients, learn about patient care, and gain experience with a variety of health conditions. The staff is all very welcoming and helpful. You work very closely with your co-workers and management, so the relationships that are built are great. A typical workday varies depending on the volume of calls that day. For this reason, it is difficult to anticipate when your shift will be done. However, because of the potentially long days, a full-time employee will work 4 days of the week, with 3 full days off. Shifts tend to range anywhere from 7 - 13 hours/day. Scheduling tends to be fairly flexible.
At times, the job does require the ability to lift a significant amount of weight, so it can be physically demanding.

Inclusiveness is a great asset within NCMT. You are welcomed warmly in a family like work environment. 



What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Work place violence from a patient, who abused and harassed  me throughout the period of  his transfer. I understood his psychological illness state 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
NCMT provides conducive working environment with standard working tools and open communication with management 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Looking forward to each day with zeal of passionately transferring patient from one point to the other. I work between 8- 10 hours per day with maximum 13 hours.

As someone just out of university this job is great early exposure to the medical field.  It allows for one to experience direct patient care without the formal certifications of more advanced medical professions.  Additionally, it is generally a younger crowd of employees (20-30 years old) so everyone is nice and high spirited which creates an awesome work environment.  Definitely a job I would recommend.

This job is very nice, if it wasn’t for enjoying the hospitals and experience the Management would not cut it to make it a good place, It feels terrible to work for a place where you are not appreciated and constantly put down but higher staff that have no power outside of their role at work. A lot of people here agree and has been going on for years

I worked at NCMT while at paramedic school and was able to work flexible shifts around classes and ride outs. Vehicles are Sprinter vans and an ambulance. Shifts can be busy, but quieter days too. Lots of good experience extricating patients from homes and hospital transfers. If you are a decent worker, management treats you well!

Great growing company!!!

For me, they offered me what I needed. I chose the days that I wanted to work which was important as I was able to take on extra courses on my time off. 

The Sprinters that they use are way more comfortable then the regular ambulances on the roads. 

Management is fair

If you are interested in the medical field this is a great place to start. You get to see different aspects of the medical community. There is a lot of driving involved but you’ll get to see many places. Can have both busy or slow days just depends on how it goes. 

You’re a tool used and abused , not hired but owned .
Great coworkers , awful boss !!!
The trucks are in bad shape , the volume of work it’s huge for .50 cents over minimum wage .
Stay clear !!!
