Nipissing University

•	Coordination of the practicum arrangements for all Nipissing Brantford BEd students 
•	Contact and liaise with approximately 50 school boards in Ontario involving discussions with superintendents, principals and teachers etc. to obtain placements for BEd students 
•	Create and maintain database for scheduling, tracking and validation of placements
•	Contact school boards to discuss and resolve delicate situations (e.g. students removed from one placement setting and the need to obtain a different placement setting) in consultation with the Practicum Officer (North Bay Campus)
•	Prepare and collate practicum kits for associate teachers and principals 
•	Track and Ensure all students have completed Health and Safety training and have clear Police Vulnerable Sector Checks (PVSC) 
•	Addressing and resolving appeals regarding confidential concerns
•	Sit on Practicum Advisory Committee, Document, File and concern management, review committee membership (PAC) and minutes
•	Assist in the preparation of the Practicum Handbook.  Creating and presenting workshop about policies, procedures, professionalism and conduct during Practicum
•	Oversee payment/budget reports and tuition credit processing
•	Website maintenance, tech support, Communication releases and social media
•	Tracking and entering final grades for transcript and graduation purposes.

What is the best part of working at the company?
There are some incredibly dedicated people working at Nipissing, people who very much want to make a difference. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The institution is held back by incompetent management and nepotism. The management teams surround themselves with incompetent 'yes' people who don't question things. Certain departments are filled with underqualified people who do not understand how effective departments work in the real world.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Used, abused, and thrown out. It's fine if you're a 'yes' person who goes along with ineffective management, but don't expect any positive response or change to happen if you make suggestions. It's like working in a company from the 1970s.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
droll, dross, boredom, mixed in with reactive decisions and no strategy.

A typical day at work: meet up with student(s) tutor mathematics for a span of 2-5 hours. After 5 hours in total have been spent tutoring, return time sheet to office and paid bi-weekly.

I learned that every student learns differently and that every student has potential, you just have to find something that interests them and helps them learn.

I didn't know many of the co-workers as we only met up whenever there were meetings.

The hardest part of the job was preparing explanations in a number of different ways so that the student can understand each concept.

The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing the student(s) be successful on their math tests, midterms, and exams.

A typical day at work would depend on the day of the week. A typical week would consist of reading the weekly reading, attending the lecture, and hosting office hours or schedule office hours for students who could not make it to regular hours. 

I was able to improve my confidence in a slightly independent position. Despite the fact that the lecturing Professor was the person in charge, I was still responsible for assisting students in class and during laboratory sessions. Therefore, I learned to be more confident in my abilities to assist others and even confirm my own confidence on the material covered in the course.

 while building a genuine sense of community for your residents. No two days are the same, and there’s a quiet satisfaction in keeping a complex machine running smoothly behind the scenes.

Forgetting to sign in and out

Super comfortable amd welcoming 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Daily tasks check list .you clean and make sure all flre exists are  safe and clesr

Great workplace with great management. Very flexible schedule. A typical day at work includes answering questions, set up and take down of game day equipment, light cleaning duties and moving equipment such as bleachers. The hardest part of the job would be dealing with any concerns of anyone at the gym. workplace culture is very relaxed and everyone is very friendly. The most enjoyable part of the job would be the friendly atmosphere between employees and I love sports so the sporting atmosphere is very enjoyable.

A typical work day included a 3 hour lecture, office hours (meeting with students), evaluating assignments

One has to be: 
- self motivated in order to be prepared for class and get work done in a timely manner,
- great at working and motivating others as it is necessary to help the students in their learning.

The most enjoyable part of my day was office hours where I got a chance to know and help my students

The hardest part of my job was to see some of my students struggle however being able to discuss their challenges and help them through them during office hours was rewarding.

This was a three-year contract funded by the government!

The hardest part of the job was that my skill set did not really match the skill of University professors! They were still trying to develop their research mentality and did not have enough research going on! Other than that the program is well-organized by the other universities I met some incredible people with incredible opportunities for technology transfer within Canada.

Horrible employer. Talk to anyone of the people they let go due to `cut backs`and have not rehired. They are posting contracts so they don`t have to pay you as much, provide benefits etc. Management is super corrupt. It is an old boys club and rather than showing concern for the University`s success they are concerned with building an ivory tower. 
Employee be ware. You may feel like they like you, they will promise a re-hireé renewalé full-time. It is all a show.

At this workplace I had a team of callers calling alumni for donations to help support Nipissing University. I usually helped decided what list to call for alumni; helped with any information that alumni or callers needed; co-workers were friendly and attentively listened to what I had to say; hardest decision was when trying to react to a customers reaction when upset; most fun of the job was the interaction between co-workers and the amount of trust between each other.
