Norpro Security

This is an expanding company, and Security is only apart of it.  There is a lot of Management, and a lot of changes; most do not affect Security.  A large number of their Security contracts are out of town.  They do have local contracts, but the money is in out of town.  They provide transportation, lodging and food (if there is no field kitchen, they do provide a daily meal allowance).  Generally you are one week up and one week down, but that is some what negotiable.  Recon is not a strong point with them, so you might be in for a surprise, especially on new sites.  Flexibility, not so much, but under current circumstances, they don't have much choice.  Covid-19 is very relevant, no way around it.  Can be annoying and frustrating, depending on what site you go to,
I have been with them for going on three years, and, for the most part it has been a good go.  I started in town and eventually went remote.
I will caution you that, being a Security Guard is not exciting.  A lot of long hours with very little happening, but after awhile, you will learn that with Security, a boring day is a good day.  Excitement is not some thing you want. 
What NorPro will expect from you:
Flexibility:  You might want to stay in town, but that can not always happen.
Reliability:  Not only do you have to show up for your shifts, but you also have to understand that other people rely on that.  People do not like Security Guards, so you need some tough skin.  You will be subject to inappropriate comments, you will encounter resistance and occasionally you will encounter physical resistance (not often).  Never show weakness, and never back down.
Standards:  You are held to a higher standard then the people you are contracted to protect/observe.  You will encounter dual standards.  What is acceptable for an employee, is not always what is acceptable to a Guard.  Your trucks will stand out and so will you.  Your best defense is to understand you are always under the microscope, on and off duty.
Paperwork:  Lots of that.  Might be digital, but it is there, and in mass.  Be familiar with Microsoft Office and PDF.  You will see it often.
Security is a field that will continue to expand.  As society erodes, more and more importance will be placed on individual Security Companies.  All are embracing this and have expanded it to other fields, whether it be surveillance systems, data base protection, protection of company assets in this ever cut throat world, or even just the basics.  The days of the Night Watchman are long gone.  Will we mesomorph into armed security, like many other countries, I don't know.  We still look up, look down and look all around, but now companies and individuals expect that much more.  I enjoy my job, and I am good at it; so can you.

 

To start, working security is good or bad depending on your personality. That said, NORPRO Security Company has its ups and downs like any company. Norpro is a company spread thin and highly miss managed. This company reaches for higher standards which is good but the way they go about it is killing them in the long run. They spread their guards thin and the quality of those guards is not at the standard they should be. I say that because they do not have the proper training that is expected of them. Another point is the management them selves, they have three main people the two co-owners and the operations manager who looks after everything to deal with the guards work duties(which is a lot and to much for one person to handle). For different guard jobs there should be a manager for that job description for example in sections 1. In town guards 2. in town patrol drivers 3. out of town guards and supervisors  4. loss prevention guards 5. armoured truck guards these are all different sections to the company that are covered by one person when it should be three people or they should have a head guard for each section to help the operations manager not have such a heavy load. That said they need to get an operations manager who doesn't say derogatory things that belittle or offend people especially things said to the guards because that can become a lawsuit. All in all the co-owners are friendly and try to have that working relationship where you can go to them if there is a problem. However they are very busy people due to spreading themselves thin and that problem may not be dealt with right away. Another thing is seniority they don't take it in to account for promotions because they will just hire someone with no experience working for them to fill the job slot if they think you can't do the job and that hurts them big in the long run. but if you choose them just to have a job cause you really need it, then the upside is if you know what you are doing and you are good then you rarely have to deal with them because they will give you the work and leave you alone.

Management is very disorganized; expect your shifts to change frequently and with very little notice (sometimes even less than 12 hours).
Your only contact with the company will be through the occasional visit of a supervisor; Norpro uses an application called Tracktik that serves as a mobile clock-in and which will tell you the time and location of your shifts. It is the only form of communication management will usually use; expect not to hear a word from them for weeks at a time.
As for training, you will be handed a notebook and deployed to your first site without any kind of instructions. Post orders are rare and very imprecise and undetailed when they are actually given. When I was assigned to my first shift I had no idea what to do and didn't even have the opportunity to talk to a supervisor. Luckily I arrived early and was able to somewhat learn the ropes from the guard scheduled before me. 
As for the other employees, they're a mixed bag and besides the supervisors you won't talk to them very often except during big events. When at an event with multiple guards the teams are easy enough to work alongside. During the few brief times you will talk to management you will find them polite and personable.
The company *does* provide paid-for advanced training for long-term employees. However, they mostly consist of a single two-day course available a couple times a year. The content is very useful and good to learn; you can decide for yourself if it's worth it. 



My time spent with this organization began with optimism and eagerness. Over the course of my brief stint with Norpro Security, I quickly came to realize that basic necessities required to carry out my job were not being provided, the amount of work expected to be done on certain shifts was literally impossible, and that I was being paid almost the same as other workers who had next to no responsibilities. 

If you are keen to begin a career in the Security field, I would not recommend starting it with Norpro, but if you do, go in knowing what to expect.

Regardless of whether you work at the mines or anywhere else, you're essentially being paid poverty wages while being expected to perform at a very high level.  On top of that you're placing yourself at risk of serious bodily harm.  Because of this, it is very challenging to build a culture where you can retain people when you and your colleagues are not taken care of or respected.  

I would highly recommend anyone seeking a career in policing to work just about anywhere else.

Being a security guard, there is no stress about the job. It’s more of risk analysis of your surroundings on site and you’re good to go.

Great company to work for, company provides free training to all staff. Management is at site regularly, always friendly. The “New “ Norpro has been a refreshing change from N1. The new CEO even goes to sites regularly, very friendly and delivers on promises.  I would recommend Norpro Security if your looking for a rewarding Security career. 

Ok to work for but not for long term and need to have more control of stuff and better open lines for talking with guards and if your full time then you have good hours and if your part time then your hours are all over the place

Its dispatch is not good. so many times it call me on shift and when I saw there is shift given to somebody elso moreover, it didnot give schadule to new workers. The thing I like is that it give pay on time. 

They are giving shifts irregularly. Some are getting more hours while some get very few hours or no hours for the whole week. Their management is worst. Don't work with this company. Find another one.
