Started as a Journeyman plumber  for them building a boiler room, job was interesting and i learned a lot of things  and got to work with materials and fittings i had not worked with for many years, management was ridgid and not flexible  and did not take problems  into advisement  and things ended up being done multiple times until different journeymen couldnt  make it work either, then the job and material was reworked.

 HSE was strict  which was good, i liked the safety aspect on both jobs i was on. saw a lot of very tired management staff which led me to believe  head office management was grossly overworked and lived out of a suitcase. Hardest part of the job was not knowing where things were progressing,  stage of the project etc all of a sudden it was a milestone  and all hands on deck. 
i didnt mind working away from home the company housing was good , roommates excellent  as i worked in Red Deer and Saint Paul, i would like to of seen good crews who worked well together stay together,instead of being split up or laid off we were all willing to relocate but nothing came of it , praise for completing jobs on time and under budget  were there but  your reward was  being laid off with no notice as job neared completion, that was a hard pill to swallow. 

Very hard company to go back and work for once you have been laid off, you see the adverts for postings but when you call  they tell you its for future projects they may have coming up. MY advice  go to the site to get hired you have a better chance  than applying online, as with any company there are good supervisors and bad ones,its a question of how fast you learn that and  how you deal with it to protect yourself.

Supervisors intimidate employees and do not encourage a positive work environment.  The daily work environment is filled with stress, anxiety, disorganization, danger and no structure, poor planning. It’s a terrible work environment to come to every day and makes you not want to come to work at all.

Constructive ideas and input are not taken into consideration and quickly brushed off with intimidating or derogatory comments which makes you feel as if you don’t know anything.  

NAC Hires inexperienced apprentices who need to be micromanaged and taught along the way.  This wastes a lot of time, energy and resources. The employees who are experienced go above and beyond to make up for the inexperienced ones.  They don't usually get job advancement or the recognition they deserve. There is very poor communication within management, city and employees which leads to jobs being re-done more than once.  High turnover. 

The supervisor takes weeks off every few weeks, especially during the busy time.  I have no idea how these days are approved, especially in a supervisory position and during the busiest and most critical time of the job.  Days taken off over a month in total over the course of several short months, but gives all employees a hard time if they take a day off for a sick child, or have to leave early for an appointment or employee visiting family overseas.  Expects everyone to be on the job but yet has no problems leaving at any given time.  This is not fair and sends the wrong message to employees that their personal time/situations do not matter.

My first experience with NAC was as a Summer Student in 2011-2013. The experience and exposure I received while working at NAC helped propel me into the career I have today. They were encouraging every step of the way! 

To give some validity to this review, I have worked elsewhere in the same field (Health & Safety), and still opted to return to NAC in 2021. 

Although there are definitely frustrating aspects to the job - like there are in any industry, and on every construction project - the NAC teams are always encouraging. They value opinions and aim to work collaboratively at all levels. 

I would highly recommend joining the NAC Team. 

For many reasons, I am grateful to be part of the NAC Constructors Company.  NAC participates In a vast range of complex projects, delivering such important infrastructures and value to communities in Canada. Our people are incredible. We have a variety of cultures and experiences throughout the departments. Working with NAC you will see young professionals and people with 20+ years with the company. The days are never the same, and definitely not a job where you count the hours to go home. The work is intense, for sure, but dedicated people are always recognized. I am proud to be a member of NAC's teams

Great place to work lots of politics are involved so things can move slow from time to time waiting on answers but great work. Can get messy from time to time at the sewage plant and be aware to getting sick a lot, we use to call it the grit room bug. Management is great one of the best supervisor groups I've ever been apart of in the piping trade if you're on the right team. Field promotion system is whack was there 5 years and knew the plant like the back of my hand nothing is rewarded they'll hire someone who doesn't know nothing about the plant or industrial work and make them foreman or leadhand and expect people there 5-6 years to take direction from them only downfall.

This was one of the worst workplaces I’ve experienced in Canada. The environment is toxic, unprofessional, and deeply discriminatory. I personally witnessed and experienced unfair treatment based on race and background, including biased decision-making, dismissive behavior, and unequal standards.

Management ignores concerns and protects problematic behavior instead of addressing it. Speaking up only leads to retaliation or being sidelined. There is no accountability, no respect, and no genuine commitment to diversity or inclusion.

I would strongly advise to think carefully before working here.

As a recent co-op student, it was the most positive work-term experience a student can potentially have within a learning work environment. Everyone within the company has an integral part of the company culture. Fellow employees are very courteous, quick to help out, and also aims to invest in educating their employees with the tools and knowledge within the industry and their roles. NAC is a very dynamic place to work and would highly recommend it to be a great choice to work for any future employee prospects as well as any potential clients that want to work with NAC for industrial/construction projects.

NAC offers many supports for work life balance, something that stood out to me in their interview process was the additional time off during holidays, staff appreciation events, work hard play hard incentive and an overall welcoming and inclusive work environment. Going from a previous remote job to being in person every day was an easy transition with how welcoming and warm the staff at head office are. There are many opportunities to grow in your role and explore other paths within NAC if you share your interest. 

The co-workers are amazing, nice people to work they are happy all the time. I Can't said the same of the supervisor who's upset 24/7, yelling all day and talking with groceries all the time. He got extremely mad when I asked for rise due my actual personal situation. Wasn't a conversation was him yelling me for 10 min.
There's no motivation to go to work, there's no appreciation for jobe well done, there's no care for people with experience, training and certification. If you are new in the company you are literally an useless guy for the supervision even if you have more experience that them.

The management believes civil projects like wwtp are really difficult.  If you can build a building you can build a water treatment plant.  It’s concrete and pipes.  Yet NAC somehow makes it difficult.  They only hire those with mostly heavy civil experience.  No wonder they have trouble.  Try hiring.more  supers and project managers with other experience, like institutional and large commercial.  They learn quickly, they think outside the box, they adept and they handle adversity.  This is why NAC has problems on so many projects.
