I was a Ticket Seller at North American Midway Entertainment when it came to my city.

A Typical Day at Work:

I would be assigned a booth to operate, sometimes more than one as I would cover co-workers when they went on their breaks.
I would sell tickets, wristbands, and express passes to the fair goers. It would be busy in spurts then there would be lulls.

I would give directions to fair goers, such as the location of washrooms, customer service, and fair rides.

At the end of the day I would empty the till into a secure bag and carry it to the office where it would be counted and the float would be balanced.

What I Learned:

I learned that sometimes things are just out of your control and it's best to shrug it off and move on.

Management:

Some of the supervisors were okay but it was clear that most didn't care about you by the way they talked down to the local employees in comparison to the traveling employees.

Co-Workers:

The co-workers were really nice and friendly. Most of them hired locally like myself. The shifts lasted between 8 - 12 hours a day sitting in a booth so it was nice to have someone to talk to to help pass the time.

The Hardest Part of the Job:

At the end of the day when the float and money was counted up, the supervisors would also count the tickets to make sure everything was balanced. Most of the time I was only off by a dollar, but there was one or two times when I was off by a fair amount which I thought was impossible as there was no way I could be short as I was very careful with how I handled the money and tickets. Any shortage was taken out of an employees' paycheck and if it got too high you'd be fired (thankfully that didn't happen to me). But in their frame of mind if the balance was short they thought you were stealing and there was no way to prove that you didn't.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
The general atmosphere of the fair, the co-workers, and the easy tasks the job required.

I enjoyed working here at North American Midway Entertainment, when they were at CNE, under the role of Redemption. 

For the role Redemption, we are working in a big group divided into pairs, one person scans the QR codes while the other puts on the wristband (Scanner and Banner). A lot of the time, we had a friendly competition on which pair could scan the most amount of QR codes for the day, which was fun. You can see co-workers trying to take your customers away from you. I'm glad I got along well with my co-workers and hung out with them during lunch.

Most of the guests here are friendly couples and families trying to come here and have a fun time right before the summer ends. Sometimes guests would get confused between the General Admission and All-Day Ride Pass and get upset at you. Just try to explain it to them and send them to customer service for further assistance.

I do want to point out that this job requires a lot of effort and you are getting paid minimum wage. You are standing up all the time in the hot weather. If you think about it, you could be working elsewhere where you are indoors with air conditioning.

Have a great time in this role, I'm sure you will do well and enjoy the work environment just like I did! 


A typical day at work would begin with opening my game, cleaning the game booth, stock the merch. Through out the day when the Fair is open we'd demonstrate how to play the game along with explaining the rules, handing out teddy bears and maintaining the booth cleanliness.

Working here I learnt a lot about African history, considering that most of the employees were from South Africa. I also learnt how to read people, when they want to play, don't want to play or on the fence about playing. Spending the day dealing with the customers and reading their body language and constantly providing demonstrations on how to play the game i had successfully mastered the ability to easily convince people to play the game at least once.

My coworkers were fantastic, although living together, working together and vacationing together for 6 months became a bit stressful. 
I think the hardest part about working for this company was not only are you away form home for 6-9 months but you never have time to spend on yourself, a day were you can sleep in with out people in the same room, or a day where you can just go for a walk.

The most enjoyable part was the wonderful people i met and the places I got to travel to and see! Working for North American Midway was the greatest experience i have ever gotten, I am so grateful for that opportunity.

It was fun, I loved the environment out there each in every city we all went and worked.  I learned alot!  Never knew how much being a ride operator can be so much fun while making a lot of good money.  The management was awesome, it was a blast.  Made lots of great friends and met a love of mine (now been dating for almost a year now).  The hardest part of the job was when it when we are tearing apart all of the rides and setting up, the raining weather was even worse. For example, let's say it's the last day of work in Calgary, Alberta.  We'd have to prepare tearing all of the rides down right after when the fair is over, we would all put on our gear and equipment to use to do so.  Work all night, the whole entire shift would total up to 22 hours straight.  That's only one city, though, throughout the summer my endurance kept me this job from going more.  I am very flexible, and very active.  I play vigorous sports, athletic as much as basketball, track and ice hockey.  That's a little piece of me, I can tell you much more when info needed.

I find that working at the Calgary stampede is a very enjoyable workplace during the summer. I have a number of relatives (including my father) who work on the carnival (NAME.) The carnival i a very welcoming environment to me, though the hours and the work is really tough. I have had a multiple encounters from all kinds of people who worked with name or on the other hand customers who would come to the amusement park and those encounters have given me more life experience than any other work department. for the company I worked for (DABCO games) I know all of the managers personally and I have for a long time. I find that they are exceptionally organized and they are great employers. 
I made friends easily with co-workers and a lot of the time i brought friends of mine and got them jobs. The hardest part of working on the carnival was the 12 hour days and the co-workers who'd complain because they couldn't handle it. My favorite part of working on the carnival, honestly, was being there:)

I worked with north American midway for summer 2024. The people I worked with were very nice and friendly. I worked at the Wings and fries booth my first day there. I worked along side 3 travels from South Africa and one girl who travel with the company for two years. they were so rude and it’s my first day I felt like I didn’t get trained properly and I only worked for 4 hours and mind you I live in the east end imagine coming to work and you only work 4 hours. During my shift I felt embarrassed and I also felt racially targeted I felt micro managed by the 3 travellers so that day I went to management and I asked to be switched to another booth and within 30 to 40 minutes I got put in a Corndog stand where I loved the environment and people. From my personal experience don’t work for this company management is so unprofessional and not understanding but I loved working along side my co workers. 

My last year ever working there could be thought of like a concentration camp
I had no bunkhouse and told to go around to the bunkhouses and shower wherever I found one
because I did not have a bunkhouse I had to sleep in a unlocked truck while the drivers were local and went home or drivers were given bunkhouses whats worse is before all of this my clothes and personal items were put in a unlocked supply truck that someone locked and no one knew who had the key
I worked in foods and had to take my own money and buy a razor and deodorant but still smelled and was tired since I had nowhere to sleep or shower
this was my second year and I was told each year I came back to work I would make more
Here is the breakdown
Year 1 $500.00 a week
Year 2 with bonus for going back was $450.00 a week!!!
I would avoid all traveling carnials
DO NOT TRAVEL WITH ANY OF THEM.!!!!

A typical day would be sitting in a booth selling tickets, alongside a partner to guests of the theme park who were interested in riding the rides. Also important to give them the best deal possible which was selling the play all day wristbands to them. I learned more about customer service, and how to deal with conflict situations with the customer in which I had to cater to them while not breaking the policy of the company. The management were very shady and not to be trusted completely. They were purposefully miscalculated your ticket bag and stole money from you in which at the end of the day would come out of your pay. The co-workers were the best part of the job, they were always jolly and kept the mood in a positive height while working in the booths.

I worked with them during the time of Stampede and yes, i know it’s the one of the busiest times of the year in Calgary and i should expect a ton of customers, but the scheduling of workers was off, sometimes there’ll be 2 people handling the booth with around 30 people waiting in line, our break we’re messed up, sometimes when there were 2 people working, we won’t get our breaks until 5hrs after we started working on our feet non stop. The coworkers were amazing because we all bonded on how the job was not managed properly. But overall, i would recommend the job as a first job ever experience.

I enjoyed working for this company every day as I like working with people, I worked long hours and it made me a stronger person, I learned great customer service skills, and worked with all age groups, I became good friends with the people who worked with me and we always supported each other. The hardest part of my Job was setup and tearing down of carnival rides roller coasters and graviton rides which required us to move heavy equipment and be very safe. The most enjoyable part of my job was when the fair opened and I could talk to all people with different cultures races, and sometimes learned allot from these people.
