After spending several years here this is one of the worst places I have ever worked. The management is incredibly poor. In unionized departments it's nearly impossible to get fired for being incompetent which gives little incentive to hard working individuals. You will be worked harder than a slave and given very little recognition for it. I have been blocked from advancement into other departments without being given any valid reasons despite having the qualifications. Some unions are practically useless in challenging management and can do nothing about the "management has the right to manage" clause which seems to be the ultimate overriding clause that can be used at any time for any reason. This gives absolute control to management and removes the illusion that you are somehow protected by the union. The worst part about the whole experience is that if you ever get sick for an extended period of time you'll have to deal with an insurance company who's sole purpose is to deny claims and save money. You'll be harassed on a daily basis by the insurance group asking you to come back to work and that's assuming that one of the RPN's who works for them accepts your physician's assessment. When you get sick you are treated worse than the patients you are expected to provide care for. This is not an environment where you can challenge or even question management's direction or decisions despite their claims that it is "a safe place" to voice your concerns. I've witnessed a co-worker get reprimanded 10 minutes after those exact words were used for simply voicing her opinion. The organization is run as a tyranny and anyone who does not fall in line gets threatened with "insubordination" which will be used as a reason to dismiss you. If you ever even verbalize the words "discrimination" or "harassment" you are irrevocably put on a black-list that will make your life very difficult. Having a strong work ethic and caring for your patients does not get you very far despite all that. Use this place as a stepping stone to secure better employment elsewhere or risk becoming jaded like the rest of the staff who've worked here for years.

When I first started with this organization, I couldn't wait to go into work. The staff was positive and the management supportive. 

Then came the cuts, all due to disorganization, mismanagement and poor choice of hiring managers. This facility cares more about managers having a university degree than what experience the applicant has. Management interactions have been increasingly negative due to young, inexperienced managers hired that do not use the expertise of the experienced floor staff, micromanage and discipline anyone with an opinion. Major power-tripping going on...

The nurses and allied staff that do the work with the patients are amazing, however. They are compassionate and caring. Morale has declined a lot in the past few years though.

I am hoping that the Senior Management will come to realize the error of their hiring ways, and start to listen to the experienced staff and re-think their management hiring practices. Then the organization can grow again and become a leader in Ontario Health Care.

I worked in many different departments during my time with this employer due to a time of down-sizing with the hospital.  This allowed me to obtain more experience and work with many of the staff employed at the hospital, as well as interact with the public during my time when I handled the correspondence and release of medical information.  

After 27 years spent working for the NBRHC, it was time for me to retired and take on other challenges.  With that said, I moved from the North Bay area to Elora, closer to family and friends.

Staff are the only thing that keep this BUSINESS running management will walk people out for no reason except they tell the truth CEO is a tyrant who believes in a bully ridden environment of threatening staff and watches everyone on FACEBOOK even admitted to it during an investigation  that had NATIONAL coverage. He supports managers who are biggest and Racists and discriminatory work culture built on fear and mistrust one of the worst employers according to CRA , broken every Labour law and criminal law there is none to man and They will stop at nothing to hide this fact

A typical day would be receiving report from previous shift followed by meeting with the Multidisciplinary Team to review current patients specific needs or issues for the day.
Maintaining a patient assignment, administering any care required, including medications.  Overseeing all patients and staff on unit to ensure quality care and assisting as needed.
I enjoyed patient interactions and assisting them to have the best experience and teaching and assisting with discharge planning.

Going in I try to be positive but as the day progresses I realize that hospital care is surely not what it use to be. I learned that positive thinking is key to positive changes . Management on the other hand goes without being said! Co-workers are great to work with most days but the hardest part of the job would be being with a patient who has just been diagnosed with a terminal disease. I enjoy every aspect of my job and there is nothing I wouldn't do to receive a smile or a thank-you from my patients this is what makes my job so very rewarding.

Awesome place to work with great wages, great employees and everyone is working to achieve a common goal. Management is typically very open minded and willing to accommodate and educate as the position of an ACO is stressful with lots of unique circumstances that happen outside of everyday “routine.” 

No two days are ever the same and the interaction with other agencies and relationships among other hospital departments is fairly good.

Financially we got paid well for our job but the workload keeps increasing. Some areas you are running all day, every day. Management doesn't care about staff. New staff are just thrown in and don't always have enough training. Staff shortages all the time. The last three years have been crazy trying to keep shifts covered. The most enjoyable part is the people you meet and the things that you learn in a hospital setting. 

Many job cuts have created employees who are overworked, exhausted, and constantly worried about layoffs. Many management changes over the past several years. Very unstable working conditions. There is a huge lack of team work. This is not a positive work environment. Different rules seem to apply to different employees. Those who actually work get more work added to their workloads, whereas those who do not produce seem to get away with avoiding being given extra duties.
