A lot of departments need to figure their shi out. Meat department is easily the best and most well run department with great management and flexible hours. Produce is terrible all around… there is a certain employee who I will not name that has been the cause or partial cause of the last 3 managers and store manager to quit as well as several employees. Nothing is organized and most don’t last long before they quit. The rest of the store is pretty average with the odd chaos and annoying coworker in each but overall if you want a job apply because they will probably take you and if you want to work produce be brave man.

Benefits, if they offered to you, but soooo expensive

Really bad communication on high levels 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful, people always avoiding her duties and blaming other people 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Receiving complains from my department first, about they don’t have this or that to work and not capable to solve it.
Then complained from store manager about people is not capable to solve minor issues.
Then solve the problems and start dealing with providers and check if production is done properly 
Then invoicing paperwork and ordering accordingly

I was only two weeks at the Chappelle Co-op bakery. But it was enough to say and think that this was not my place.
- A manager who doesn't  want to get involved or pretends not to want to react to the environment of bad treatment by the other baker towards the workers who are packing and handling the front part of the work area.
- A baker who has no idea of respect for other workers
- A heavy and stressful work environment
-The manager has no idea how to organize her staff, it seems that being tough and demanding with her staff, for her is being a good manager.
Working there was a frustrating experience, but it did let me know why Co-op has diminished its quality of work over the years.

Over several years I have noticed a shift in the company's approach. There had been problematic management issues that were dealt with recently, however, even after those changes, the leadership has continued to put heavy stress on the store level management, cutting hours and budgets, but still wanting more out of the sites. Front line staff are in general fairing better than recent years. Time will tell as North Central continues to expand in the Edmonton market.

The management here is really frustrating. From my experience they like to talk about how everyone has to work as a team, but in practice they'll stand in the back office and talk while you try to do your job as well as run cash because you're constantly short staffed. Low store morale because the store managers are unpleasant to deal with and aren't willing to help you out. The rest of the staff at my store was the best part because everyone had to pick up the slack and work together. Most of the time you won't know what's going on because the schedules get put up a week before they start and they'll change them right up until a day before and not tell anyone.

There's always many many many job postings because turnover of staff is high


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is very little to no support, no transparency, integrity very low, poor pay for strenuous positions, getting rid of fabulous employees and keeping the below average ones. They .ay treat customers like they're at home but NOT staff.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Depending on what commodity it can be very toxic and stressful.

On a regular day we would open at 5:45 am so we must get there 20 minute earlier
open the store by 6am deal with customer all day long , sell gas, ethonal ,deasil 
lotto , memberships , and gas bar dailies merchentize, do maintnaince around the store , keep the store clean, pump gas. i believe i learn al,ot more then when i started , management was great to deal with very fair , everyone who worked there are good sell man they now how to sell product. At first when i started i did not know how to use a tell machine but after a few months it got easier. 
the people i worked with where fun to be around and made the longs easier.

A typical day at work is that there are only a few people when the store opens. Around noon to afternoon, it becomes busier. I learned that it is important to treat customers well and keep the store clean, so that customers can keep coming. Whenever it gets busy, cashiers help each other by assisting the next customer in line. The workplace culture is good because we all work together. Though we have different backgrounds, we do not discriminate each other. The hardest part of the job is to try to keep yourself busy when it is slow. The most enjoyable part of the job is that we know each other enough to make the job fun.

Stay away if you can! Don‘t become a manager there. And never take a salary position, unfortunatley in Alberta there is no regulations about Salaried jobs and they know that and they will milk it. Your entire job will entail constantly dodging their tries to fire you. HR is also not helpful. They like to preach about being team focused and inclusive but nothing of this will ever happen. If you are a hard worker just stay away there is companies who appreciate you more than them. Work envoirment in management is very toxic.  Ne aware ! 

Worked for them 6 1/2years now, good place to work, benefits are pretty good if you can get full time. Many are part time though. Pay is decent but not fantastic unless you’re upper management. Occasional pizza/ deli provided staff lunches a few times a year( not during COVID of course). Worked for a different Co-op region for 5 years, that’s why it says I only have been working there since May 2019.
