Northeastern Protection Services

Having a massive amount of experience in the security industry and being recognized by a number of government agencies for my expertise, I have come to the conclusion that Northeastern Protective Services is the leader in the security industry in Nova Scotia.  I have work and dealt with almost all the security companies that are out there, from international to small mom and pop shops, and Northeastern Protection Services tries to do the right thing all the time.  Are they successful?  No company does everything perfect all the time; however, Northeastern Protective Services gives an honest 100% try to do so.  If someone really wants to work and learn in the industry and have opportunities opened to them, this is the place to work.

Nova Scotia has little to no room for advancement in the security field. So your options to begin with are extremely limited.

-Typical day overall is usually relaxed, sometimes there's way too much personal drama/politics that can interrupt the work day but if you go to work to work and not fool around, you'll be fine. 
-The supervisors I have met have been good, for the most part. However, it seems recently the ones appointed are unqualified or they are just put in that position because there is no one else to put there.
-Management overall is all over the place, some of the folks in head office are spot on, others not so much. I just wouldn't want to be on someone's bad side.

I personally haven't had a negative experience with Northeastern, I know lots of people have. But I come to work when I am scheduled, don't sick time and get the job done. Be a good employee and you'll be treated as such.

I learned so much from this job as a security dispatcher with Northeastern. I have learned to remain calm when emergency calls happen, and at same time talking to customers at the desk and phones are ringing. It can be pretty stressful during the evenings and mornings but peaceful during a nightshift, I learned a lot about our security computer software we have, and learning to activate pass cards and deactivating cards, locating persons on the system. I learned how to handle when elevators break down and we call the blue water to come in for repairs. I have gotten to know almost all contractors who come in daily, cleaners who come in daily. It is truly an amazing spot to work, where you can meet great people to work with everyday.

I have friends who worked for Northeastern Security in Dartmouth, and they were working very hard. I seen them transform from happy individuals, to being depressed and anxious. They decided to persue other things and with proper written notice, we're denied pays. That company is working with illegal tactics which employees have no power over. Overall poor working enviornment. Not enough salary to cover living  expenses.  Would NOT recommend  working  for this company!

Working long hours, and for a $ more than minimum wage kind of defeats the purpose to put ones all into this job. Fellow employees are great, those in supervisory positions not so great. Maybe they need training and interpersonal skills in which they are lacking. 
Security is not for everyone and looking at computer monitors for long periods of time can be hard on the head, i.e. headaches, eye strain, etc. Would I do this again? Never, lesson learned.

Company is good compared to other security companies, pay is generally contrast based. You are treated as disposable, but if you have a good supervisor then they will work with you to make things good. You are generally given the bare minimum. Company relies too much on immigrant labour and takes advantage of them not knowing their rights, but once again that’s a whole industry problem. Dead end job, more or less. 

I really enjoyed the site where I was posted, and I was lucky I worked with the best team members on site. I end up learning how to do Mechanical readings and activating and deactivating building access cards. The management was good, I really like managers there and the receptionist is very kind

This company is great as a spare guard due to the freedom of choosing your own schedule. As well not being obligated to take shifts or positions. As a full time position you have very little time to yourself as well as the schedules making you feel overworked and stressed out. As well as no say over taking or denying shifts.

Northeastern is a very hard company to work for. Lots of policy changes. A typical day could be very stressful. I can deal with emergencies such as a heart attack on a plane that is being diverted to Moncton.

Seriously under managed. If you like doing nothing and getting paid than this is the employer for you to collect checks from because no one cares as long as you are there. No training. No accountability.
