The company is heavily impacted by unethical leadership and a lack of professional boundaries at the ownership level. Decisions are frequently influenced by personal relationships rather than performance, resulting in inconsistent enforcement of policies and clear double standards. Employees are often evaluated not on their work or contribution, but on their alignment with leadership, which undermines, fairness and morale.
Communication is poor, and ongoing mismanagement frequently leads to miss deadlines and delays on commitments to customers. These failures are often passed down to employees who have little control over decisions, creating stress and frustration. Constant turnover, including frequent changes in management, further adds to instability, confusion, and low morale.
Employees who raise concerns or question leadership decisions, often face intimidation, harassment, or termination without a clear cause, leading many to remain silent out of fear. The workplace has become toxic, stressful, and demoralizing, with the culture that discourages accountability and transparency.
ADVICE TO MANAGEMENT:Professional boundaries need to be enforced at the leadership level. Policies should be applied consistently, employees should be evaluated based on performance and contribution rather than personal alignment, communication and management practices should be improved to create a stable and healthy work environment.
OVERALL: This is a challenging and toxic workplace. The combination of mismanagement, high turnover, poor leadership, and the lack of accountability makes it un suitable for anyone seeking a professional, supportive, or stable environment.

-Management are more concerned about production than the mental health and safety of their employees. 

-Double standard when it comes to management vs staff. Staff are expected to honks horns and wear seat belts while driving forklift, lead hands/supervisors are exempt from this. Staff are required to have Fall Arrest Certification when at heights, management are not. 

-Majority of managers don't have a shred of professionalism. Being professional managers would include, not gossiping with me about which staff the Vice-President wants gone. That's between you and the VP, not anyone who you feel the need to share it with, especially not when i work in the same department as that employee. 

-Honestly even when you get past the fact that theirs rumors floating around about the affair you're having with another staff member (nothing is done when these rumors are brought to management's attention, in fact management just says its harmless gossip). Even if you manage to learn the products and processes. Show you're dedicated. Show that you live and breathe Northplex, Management rewards you by cutting you down and making you feel expendable.

-Not to mention the contract they put in-front of you stating that your probation period is 1000 hours (6 months). When Alberta law states probation period is 90 Days unless you're seasonal or forestry, which the job isn't. Very questionable practices go on here.

DO NOT WORK FOR NORTHPLEX!!

Directors routinely make offhanded and rude comments about current/past employees.

No job security.  Will lay-off due to a decrease of home sales as well as a way to get rid of employees they can’t legally fire.  Historically bad reputation that I didn’t pay attention to when applying. 

Directors have staff and family make false positive reviews in order to improve the company image.  Both job related and product related.

Directors micro-manage staff.  Will ask for  employee opinions and thoughts, but are resistant toward those opinions if they don’t fall inline with their own views.

“Good Old Boys Club” culture amongst the older male Directors (invites to golf when male sales reps do well but never extended to female staff).  Sexist attitude towards female employees, including inappropriate physical contact (back rubs because you look stressed) and name calling (baby, darling, sweetheart). 

Not a forward thinking company.  Directors talk a good game but when it comes down to it, they prefer to keep it business as usual.

Northplex/Modsolid is a company that pays well but at what cost?  Constant concerns about lay offs?  Stress caused by a lack of leadership, motivation or direction?  Fear of being reprimanded when you voice a concern or opinion?  Do not be lured into this job because you need money or benefits.  In the long run it’s not worth selling your soul/integrity for.

I worked there as a manager for almost a year, I established good relationships with the production team and staff and I am very proud to have worked with them. The supervisor and I worked hard to accommodate and train everyone in our time. We were able to improve the culture, increase production and cut costs, while trying to implement wage increases where possible. All that I can say is that some things are out of our control. I believe the owner is a good person, My personal feeling is he needs to be at site more or trust his management. He is influenced by people that are not in the loop of what and why certain decisions have been made. This leads to unsurmountable frustration by SR Management and supervisors. This is why there is such a high turnover of management, All SR management left in Oct.  after making significant gains in culture, reputation, safety, production and profitability. It was very sad to see!!
      Suggestion: If the owner was to remove close personal ties and work directly with Management this company could be great, I truly believe it.

I strongly advise against working for this company unless you're prepared to deal with an incredibly toxic culture. From my experience, the environment is rife with a "good old boys club" mentality where favoritism trumps talent and hard work. If you're not part of the inner circle, don't expect any support or advancement opportunities.

Management is, frankly, incompetent. Decision-making is erratic and often seems based more on personal relationships than on what's best for the company or its employees. Regular layoffs are common, and they always seem to target the most vulnerable, leaving employees in constant fear for their jobs.

The lack of transparency and genuine leadership creates a stifling atmosphere where morale is low and turnover is high. This isn't a place where you can expect to grow or be appreciated for your contributions. If you're considering a position here, I recommend looking elsewhere. Your skills and sanity will be better valued in a more supportive and professional environment.

Some employees have the manager wrapped her, she had power two times taken away. Now the third time they laid a person off to give her power again, who was good. I guess going to one person to the next person pays off because she has no respect for herself and can't give respect to others. Forman on the front line bullied a guy time and time again. He asked for respect from the foreman and was almost fired. A guy treated a lady like a lady and she doesn't trusted but a guy treated her like a piece of meat and she is all over him. The manager and Vice president say people get treated equally. That is why TC starts early and works longer hours than everyone. Also people go to the Christmas Party get paid for those hours and people who don't go don't get paid. Its like being in a soup opera. Pros finding a new job cons there is not enough space to tell it all.

After all the measurements have been done hook a chain to each 2×16 or whatever size on each side and raise them up thus ligning up each support into place with the measurement then nail them into place after that I had to put on a 3/4inch layer of wood along the2×16. After finishing that I grab belly bag depending on if the floor has a basement depended on which type of belly bag and id have to staple that onto the bottom of that frame and then put three metal straps along it in order to prevent water or anything in there once hauled away,once fully done that I would begin insulating the floor.

If you like making well below respectable wages for your skilled trades then this is the place for you. Management is always making false promises. There is no room for advancement unless you are a part of the old boys club. Plenty of double standards at this company. Sr management treats the employees as disposable. There are some good employees in management positions, but when they try to implement good changes and a better culture they immediately get shut down by the Sr management. They will lay off most of the plant as soon as houses stop selling. Northplex has a very high turnover rate for a reason. I do not recommend working here.

 They can't seem to keep management, and they restructure the company to often. Northplex can be a great place to work if they can effectively run there buisness. Employee turnover is high, they're ineffective at placing the right people in there perspective roles. 
With the right attitude and work ethic northplex can be a great place too work, learn a trade, develop skills and make great friendships. 

From the day I started at Northplex I’ve Always been made to feel welcome and appreciated. There are some really great people that are easy and fun to work with that make the job fun. I take pride in the work that I do and love seeing the finished product, and the smile on the home owners face, and being able to say “hey, I helped make that persons dream a reality”. If you take pride in the work you do, and put your heart into what you do... you’ll love it..
